Bright cherry and cassis, a bit of mint and other herbs, all framed by a dense wall of fine tannin. This will probably be great on night two, or three, or in five-plus years, but for now it’s mostly potential.

0,375ml bottle of 2015 Chateau Poujeaux Moulis en Medoc bought at Galeries Lafayette Haussmann in Paris in 2023 and drank on December 22nd 2023.
Poured small tasting glass and decanted the rest of the wine in a carafe for 3 hours or so. Wine is quite opaque, ruby in colour with about 0,5cm lighter on the rim/edges showing ≈5-10 years of development.
Initially on the nose the aromas are that of a classic left bank Bordeaux red wine blend, which include aromas of dry cassis, pepper, wood and vanilla. During the first hours the wine is astringent, leather, spicyness and a little bit of dry cassis on the back, the wine finishes dry and tannic. After hours of developing, the wine shows almost red berry like freshness when served slightly chilled. Slight strawberry jamminess and cassis, pepper and round earthy leather. Wine is dry, complex and full-bodied with medium+ tannins.
91p. has potential to fly for decades in the cellar! Hoping to come across a full bottle some day in the years or decades ahead!

PNP. This note is per a glass saved for the following day. Rustic Black cherry. Round and slightly creamy in the mouth. Cocoa. Earthy notes just beginning to appear. Dusty tannins. Good acidity. Hint of licorice on the finish.

Needs a good decant to open up, and has a very attractive nose of violet, leather, black currant, black berry, tobacco and just the ever so slightest hint of bell pepper. Also a passing whiff of horse stall. The palate, though, is very structured. Chewy tannins, pretty rocky feeling, and the fruit isn’t as forthcoming as it was on the nose. I would say it’s at the beginning of its drinking window, but would be better with more bottle age, 5 years or so more, at least.

Fremstår ørlitegrann for moden i stilen.

Very deep ruby color. Blackberry, cedar, fragrant tobacco, almond, gentle but complex. On the palate not very heavy, smoothly tannic. Maybe still a bit early to open.

PNP. Very deep ruby color, with the slightest bit of a rusty rim. Blackberry, fig, raspberry, marigold, violet, baker’s chocolate, and subtle lamb skin. Smooth, dry, full bodied palate, with reasonable acidity. Full, plush tannins on the longish finish.
This is drinking in prime time. It’s an amazing QPR. Absolutely elevated by the beef bourguignon I paired it with (at a great little bistro in London). Continued gaining depth and complexity over an hour of drinking. Definitely a Napa lover’s Bordeaux. This is one of the better wineries from this lesser known Left Bank regions.

Complex and fragrant bouquet. Classic Poujeaux nose. Palate is rich, clean and long. Good layers of flavours in the medium-bodied palate. Savoury with mineral notes and very fine tannins. Transition to finish is smooth and lingering. Still young and evolving. Drink this with an hour of decanting, aging this for another 3 years will be even better. 91-93 pts.

Dekantert 2 t. Mørke bær, mocca og vanilje. Noe fatbrydder.

15-frukten er klink i vinkelen her.

Beautiful and creamy dark berries in the bouquet, a pleasant dose of vanilla. On the palate creamy and round dark berries, beautiful acidity, a slight touch of barnyard, beautiful oak and round tannin. The wine shows some early stage of development and is already delicious, but it will evolve for the better in the next 3 – 5+ years or more. 91 - 92+
Deep ruby color. Vanilla, cola, and some syrupy red fruit on the nose. More dark and less syrupy fruits with air. Medium body with medium acid and medium grippy tannins. Cherry/cranberry fruit initially, becoming darker black currant with air, along with some tea and cedar on the finish. Ripe, and almost a tad raisiny. Still, very tasty, though could easily be mistaken for New World.

From a 750ml purchased recently at retail. PnP. Very dark. A little backward at this stage but redolent of blackberries, red currants, leather, toast, and cedar. Excellent balance. A serious wine. Very approachable and enjoyable in a young way but not ready. The rather admirable stuffing is still hidden behind a chalky wall of tannins. This needed several hours in the decanter at this stage. 14% ABV (very good; above average; distinguished/***/16/91)
Day 3:
This was a different wine after 2 days in the fridge under vacuum. Black plums and cassis on the nose and black and red cherry on the palate. No cedar now, and the tannins are much softer. A heavy decant on day one is the key. Definitely lost a few steps over the last two days, but still enjoyable.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), cedar and mineral. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has medium acidity. Bitter tannins in the end.

Tasted over 2 days vs. the 2016 Labegorce. I think on day 1 the Labegorce had the slight edge. On day 2 the Poujeaux had more dark fruit and ripe tannin that made it more enjoyable to drink, but hard to tell which would emerge as the better wine 5 years out. Right now I would buy the 2015 Poujeaux if you plan on drinking in the next 5 years, but give it some serious air in the next year or so. A-
