Brought by my daughter for a little birthday celebrating after a recent trip to Virginia. This is a nice sparkler especially given the price. It is bone dry with little of the big florals often associated with Viognier but still quite pleasant to drink. Bright weight yellow with very fine bubbles and just a little yeastiness. Light to medium weight on the palate with some citrus and orchard fruits. Fairly short aftertaste but all in all a nice wine to try.

Pre-gaming at Virginia Wine Chat, we had an opportunity to taste this unique sparkler, aka Dom Virginian. Made in the Methode Champenoise, it’s a Brut style bubbly with Virginia personality. It reminded me of Cava, only a little more expensive, and with a decidedly tropical bend (hello, Viognier). Fun, fun stuff! Retail = $25.

Really nice sparkler. Different, has a moderate body, with good fruit, nice minerality, light yeastiness with moderate acidity. Light bitterness, but overall quite nice.

Virginia makes some really nice viognier, and this sparkling was delightful. Full bodied, not the usual sharpness. I was worried we held it too long, but it opened up perfectly. Bubbles were pronounced without being overly airy/gassy, color was clear, and the flavor was full. Stems up!

Barboursville and Horton Tasting Rooms (Charlottesville, VA): This was a "wow" moment in the tasting for us - we had never had a sparling viognier, nor a sparkler from Virginia for that matter. It's not quite like champagne, but they served it almost ice cold and yet the sweet fruit still shone through (ie was not dulled by the cold) and combined with the fizz it was incredibly refreshing. It's an interesting conversation piece, but beyond that it's actually worth drinking in its own right. A very fun wine and certainly worthy of keeping around to celebrate the next time one of life's small victories rolls around...

Bought while visiting the winery in October. A lovely sparkler to ring in the new year, just a nice easy drinker.

Rhone Rangers DC (Longview Gallery - Washington, DC): Peachy, very floral, simple, fun, a bit yeasty but mostly driven by fruit and floral elements. Cava-like but more tropical and floral.

Very nice local bubbly. Dry, touch of sweetness, and typical champagne yeasty/bread notes on the nose.
