Still one of my most favourite Pinot Noir wines but would have to say the 2014 has probably matured and could possibly be on its decline so would encourage anyone with this vintage to not delay in enjoying this amazing Pinot.

Showing its age a bit. Very earthy at this point. The fruit is there but not vibrant. Very forest floor vibes. Was great with the roasted chicken I made for dinner.

This just gets better and better. Opened and decanted for one hour. Poured to accompany duck legs in plum sauce and it was a great match. The nose has jammy fruit and lots of depth. The palate is complex, moving from ripe raspberry fruit through to earthy complexity. It's long in the glass. So moreish. Excellent.

Delicioso. Está en su punto.

Absolutely fell in love with this - intense, noticeably kiwi, mature Pinot. Deeper in colour than the young Aussie Pinot preceding it, this had a richer red fruit profile, almost verging into boysenberries at times. There is a noticeable cedar / tobacco note that marks this out as a more mature wine, but the balance between fruit & savoury is impeccable. Sensational.
Deep red center, red rim with a little sign of age. Wonderful nose of dark cherries, bacon, sweet briar, a touch mineral. Smooth, sweet bing cherries, lanolin, sap, good balancing acidity, modest tannins, chili pepper, chalky, nice leafy/green, great finish. Excellent NZ PN, typical Greywacke class, great now, will still be good in 3-5 years from now.

Beautiful ruby color, bright and lively. Perfect sharpness. It's strong and deep, probably the result of aging in oak barrels. The tinted highlights confirm a beginning of evolution. The glass/wine combo is sublime! With the eyes we already guess that it will be very good. The nose is fragrant, expressive and complex: rose petals, infused black tea, lavender and pretty fruits (plums, strawberries & raspberries). Breeding also appears through a slight hint of vanilla. The mouth is fluid and supple but dense and generous. The mixture of stewed fruits, fine spices and smoked shades is very pleasant. Everything combines perfectly. It's rich, the body is medium(+). The wine has a good width and a well chiseled structure. The tannins dry a little. The right balance of fruits vs acidity that is often talked about in the context of Pinot Noir is totally respected here. The persistence is pleasingly long, with freshness and a kick of spices. Everything is very elegant. I don't like to say such words but it's a masculine wine, almost animal. Very nice bottle! I love it! [Photo on Instagram]

Assessing on day 2. Smells good - dark fruit with earth, mushroom, olive, black tea, and spicy oak. The fruit is juicy and ripe without being over the top. Good acidity. rose day: dark ruby with light separation at the edges. Nose lightly earthy, red fruit, some peppery spice. Palate polished blueberry and cherry fruit, hint of earth; a bit meaty; some tannins on the finish.
A bit simple but does check all the boxes for a slightly modern-leaning pinot. 89 pts

Aromas of cherry, red fruits/cranberries, forest floor/earthy. Deep masculine style aromas if that makes sense …. not feminine or elegant pinot smells. Flavours just zoom in on earthy/forest floor, black cherry and cranberry (a touch of bitterness in an otherwise deeply flavoured pinot style.) . Leans to the Burgundian style, great acidity and tannic structure. Opened way too young. Let sit a few more years before trying again.

Very good Marlborough PN made by Kevin Judd, the winemaker who put Cloudy Bay on the map in the early 80s. Classy fruit but with a sound tannic structure, I've opened it way too young. Big cellar potential. Complex and powerful, not as rustic or herbal as my fave Marlb' PN: Seresin 'Leah.' Maybe Seresin's organic production is the difference?
C.....lightish body, alc legs.
N.....intense cherry and red fruits, wood, alc, noted no herbals (first glass directly poured, not from the decanter)
T....wow, now it gets interesting: forest floor, earthy, somewhat Burgundian for a NZ Pinot, quality fruit, obvious tannic structure, drying tannins, plenty of acidity (if you're drinking it this young it'd be ideal with a fatty grilled steak). Way too young at moment.
Comparison.....I prefer the Seresin Leah's brambles/herbal/savory style. This Greywacke is less plummy/soft/round than the Craggy Range Te Muna Rd, more tannic (until further cellaring?) and dry. Ohau Gravels PN would, for me, come before this wine.
VFM? good, will buy again.

What a great nose. Totally different (in a good way) to the typical New Zealand PN nose. This has great complexity. Smoke, woods, dark fruits. In the glass its also quite dark, albeit nice and clear. This is a very masculine wine with a fuller body than most PN. I think this will be great with a few years of age. I really liked this. The WOTN for me and KS from a line up of 4 pinot. And one of my favourite wines of the summer.

dark red, the bouquet explodes with scents of baking spices, cherry pie and plum sauce, medium bodied, the palate is characterized by dark fruits, plums, and creamy strawberry, bright acid, some herbal tastes carry off the finish, this is ready to drink now, is interesting and full of flavor

Dark plum colour. Beautiful, very complex nose - although rather too much sulphur/struck match initially- with high sweet fruit and a dark meatiness. The palate is quite spiky, with high acidity but a relatively full body, a broad, soft midpalate, and lots of spice. Plum and mulberry fruit verging on tomato - perhaps a touch vegetal.
I decided that since I drink so little red wine to splash out a bit more when I do (and it's still cheap compared to champagne). I think this is a little overpriced, or maybe it's not quite to my style. Having said that, it's interesting and not at all bad. [Screwcap; 13.5% abv; Villeneuve Wines (Edinburgh), £35].

This is lovely and I prefer it to the 2014 Ata Rangi I had a few days ago. It's better composed, less deeply, intensely fruity, and I think more Burgundian. The nose is a rich complex mix of creamy dark berry and black cherry fruit with a lacing of spice. The palate is beautifully balanced. Good rich fruit but not overly sweet with gentle oak giving structure in a pleasing way. Good acidity that doesn't make you think of added tartaric. Long. More Gevrey to the Ata's deeply ripe Chambolle. I like it.

Fermented and aged for 16 months in French oak barriques, 40% of them new. 13,5% alcohol, 5,2 g/l acifity, pH 3,75.
Luminous, translucent cherry red color that turns towards intense, clear pink towards the rim. Ripe, sweet and very aromatic nose with lovely floral aromatics and intense aromas of red cherries, some meaty tones, a little bit of black raspberry and a hint of earthy Pinosity. Really, really lovely. The wine is dry, medium-bodied and harmonious on the palate with gorgeous floral tones and brooding yet bright and vibrant flavors of peppery spice, black raspberry, rich earthy Pinosity, some sweet oak, a little bit of sweet red cherry, light toffee nuances and a hint of blackberry. The wine is quite structured with high acidity and rather light yet nicely textural tannins. The finish is rich, lively and ripe with a hint of tannic grip and vibrant flavors of black raspberries and dark cherries, nuanced floral tones, some sweet oak spice, a little bit of caramel and a hint of charred bacon. The alcohol lends a very light touch of warmth to the aftertaste.
A beautiful, harmonious and balanced NZ Pinot. The wine feels at times moderately oaky, yet at times it comes across so very classic with pure, unadulterated Pinosity. The structure is here very nice, but I'd let the wine age more just to push the oak down a bit more - now it interferes with the lovely, floral aromatics a bit too much. Overall very impressive effort and bound to gain a few points more as the oak integrates with the fruit.

Tasted at Tim Syrad's wine dinner - comparison of Cloudy Bay and Greywacke. For me, the best wine of the 13 Cloudy Bay and Greywacke wines tasted on the evening. Dark ruby in colour. Big and earthy nose. The palate immediately shows good class. Continued earthiness, with delicious dark berry fruits. Delicious and could have drunk more of it.

New Zealand Pinot Noir Tasting (Oinoscent): Red fruit exploding from the glass, bright and ripe, a nutty and smoky element, very welcoming, some dried herbs here as well. In the palate, the fruit is also bright, the oak is more pronounced, herbs again, nice body and acidity, ripe but not heavy, elegant, etheral, smooth, nice for food and on its own. Finish is med to long. With more time in the glass, it gets smokier

Serverades något för sval men var ändå tillgänglig och charmig. Sval och stram i stilen, jag skulle inte kalla den klassisk men ändå långt ifrån den syltighet som vissa nya världen-Pinot Noir-viner visar upp. Bra!

Juicy red and dark cherry, earthy with nuances of oak and sweet spice. Medium body with balancing acidity with long finish and some savoury notes towards the end.

Serverades något för sval men var ändå tillgänglig och charmig. Sval och stram i stilen, jag skulle inte kalla den klassisk men ändå långt ifrån den syltighet som vissa nya världen-Pinot Noir-viner visar upp. Bra!
