This was my last of the 14 vintage. Drank with my cousin visiting from the east coast with ribeye steak and Chinook salmon. Had to treat him to some good westcoast hospitality. The Nota Bene was decanted about 30 mins and got better as the meal progressed. Wonderful nose, tobacco and floral notes. The tannins are almost gone. Nice weight and finish. Lovely red fruit. I don't think it would improve with more time in the bottle. It was well enjoyed! My advice is to drink it!

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig and raisin. It tastes like fig, medium toast and lead pencil. The body is medium/full. The wine has leathery texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

Relieved to find this being one of the better Nota Bene’s given Black Hill’s notable (pun intended) inconsistencies. Drinking well right now with an appropriate level of tertiaries. Predominately black fruit with some notes of stewed fruit. A bit fruit heavy for good balance and a bit down on the finish but otherwise, very good.

New to me, this bottle behaved like a sparkling when I opened it so I was a bit concerned. Seems to be ok though as this is one of the better Black Hills offerings I have had lately. Medium ruby with medium intensity notes of black currant. Dry, medium plus acidity and tannin with high alcohol and medium body. Black cherry and currant with a bit of chocolate all medium plus intensity leading to a medium finish. All in all, a very good offering.

If you drink this wine on its own, you’d give it the benefit of the doubt based on its label. If you drink it with something of a similar price point you quickly realize how average it is. It lacks fruit and finish. It’s overpriced and fails to live up to the hype.

Excellent over 3d, today d3, dark cherries plums and a peppery spice note on the nose. Intoxicating. More dark fruit on the palate, smooth and balanced. Lingering finish.

Really liking this wine. Good balance, dusty, drying, ripe tannins. Good berry and plum plush fruits. Not a heavy wine. More northern style, lighter mouthfeel in weight but medium bodied.
Definitely better than the 16 we had last night - but still lacking that “wow” factor from other vintages like the 13 and 15, and more recently the 17. It doesn’t have the greenness of the 16, which is a good thing, but it also doesn’t have any character or complexity to it that differentiates it from other (cheaper) BC wines.

This vintage surprised me again. After a disappointing version several weeks back in a vertical tasting, this occasion was uplifting. The wine was approachable, in balance and actually delicious. Blackberries and ripe black cherries with a touch of cocoa and tobacco. Was the last bottle faulty? An anomaly? Ahh wine, always a wonder. Think positive and open a ‘14 NB soon. Very good with prime rib.

Molto Bene Nota Bene! (Vino Loco & Lolo's Seaside Tasting Lodge): Part of eight vintage vertical. This was underwhelming compared to recent experiences with the same wine. Bottle variation? Well, we have to assess the wine that's in front of us. It's a "meh" wine at best. Felt like I was drinking a $25 Cab-Merlot blend, with a few years of age, of no regional distinction. In relation to its vertical evening peers, Vino Loco captured it best ... "deserving of nothing more than a participant ribbon at an elementary school sports day." Dénouement.
Pnp'd after a magnum of TC's 2015 The Creek didn't seem to be enough wine for the four-person beef tomahawk dinner we were thoroughly enjoying. This took off right from the get go. Pronounced nose of savoury dark red fruit with a bit of espresso and dried sage and mint. Medium-plus body and good concentration. Nice long finish - sadly last bottle but time to drink up... or to paraphrase Vino Loco.. "you'll want to start charging rent for those bottles that overstay their welcome in the cellar"!

You have to be patient with Nota Bene - at least five years storage after purchasing, and you will be rewarded with a consistently delicious Bordeaux blend. Too often I've ordered a bottle in a restaurant and been disappointed due to its young age and biting tannins. This vintage was excellent, but alas, I need to wait a couple more years for my others to age.

Another classic Nota Bene, getting close to its peak and as it is the case with many other vintages, it should remain there for a few years. Lots of red/black fruit and the classic sage aroma...especially on the palate. Perfectly balanced and a lot of fun to drink.
Was so impressed by my last bottle, I had to open another one...as you can see...this is an excellent example of bottle variation. Very good, but nowhere near what the last bottle was. Both bottles were cellared the exact same way. This is exactly why I love wine; you never know what you'll get:) Open a bottle to see what your's like.
Absolutely fantastic. What else can you ask for! This is super elegant, complex, intense and balanced. Aromas of sage, berries, spices and notes of dark chocolate. Nota Bene at its best...enjoy now or cellar for 3-5 years. This would sell for sooo much more in Washington or California...Glad to have a 3L, to enjoy in 2025-2027
In its prime now. This flagship BC Bordeaux blend does not disappoint. Decant are least 1.5 hours to open the flavours of dark cherry, tobacco and subtle minerality (rare in B.C. wines). Tannins have softened but will drink well for the next 3 - 4 years.

Nota Bene is one of the few wines I'd drink on a daily basis. I don't get tired of it and its probably due to its freshness, balance and complex aromas...it's easy to drink, never heavy. The 2014 is just entering its optimal drinking window and will remain there for another 5+ years. Great combination of red berries, sage and this time candy (the famous fun-dip stick).
from opening light to medium alcohol, light fruit as well. first sip right after decant. crabapple, plums and prune. however well noted on the first sip thst you are in for decanted treat in 45 minutes. 45 minutes..., something dark, deep and flavourful but we could not put a word to it. lots of cassis, very rich, blackberry. so smooth and came together like a pro. wonderful wine.

same as previous. Good depth of flavour. Dusty drying tannins, not overpowering. Still a cool climate weight/mouthfeel to the wine. Good dark berry freshness still. Herbal and mineral elements on the finish.

Stacking up against 2010 and 2011, this is a drastic improvement which tells me there is quite a bit of vintage variation. Also, they must be getting better in the winery. At 6 years old, this is starting to hit its stride and I am rather impressed. 3hr decant, deep ruby in colour, on the nose there is raspberry, cherry and sage. Palate is similar fruit, chocolate, hint of earth and spice. Tannins starting to integrate, but still have grip. Nice and dry. Good complexity, one of the best BC reds I’ve had, wish I had more. I could see this getting better over the next 5 years.
My second to last bottle. Decanted. It has quite a bit of sediments on the bottom of bottle. Seducing aroma of plum, black berries, black currants. On the palate, the velvety full body with the perfect balance of black fruits and acidity and freshness, supplemented with earthiness and subtle dark chocolate is something you dream about. The long finish with the lingering flavors seducing you to reach for another pour....
After a 3-hour decant, this wine really delivers. In a word: Delicious. Black currants, plum, red berries, earthy notes, mocha... A lot going on here for the olfactory system.
Deep dark purple - it just looks gorgeous in the glass & smells like it’s going to be big and bold - dark fruity jam & toasted coconuts. (You can tell it had more time in oak)
Ripe & juicy on the palate, notes of blueberry, plum, strawberry, raspberry, and aromatic pipe tobacco on the finish. I just wish it offered just a touch more complexity - but maybe in time?
Bottle 2/5: I can taste the difference 2 years has made in the cellar. The extended oak treatment has softened the tannin & allowed the elements to harmonize better.
Big & full of brawn, backbone & guts. Considerable power & polish...as if a modern approach is sprinkled with an old world sensibility.
Charred branch, cassis, roasted coffee & light mushroom are presented via lightly grippy wood-hewn tannin & livened with a potent carnation/poppy note.
Next bottle is slated for 2019. I think that is when this will begin to peak.

Decanted through a wine shower. Drank over 2 hours. Dark purple color. Aromas of red and dark fruits and spice. Medium to full body weight. Very tasty wine with cherries and raspberries on the palate, which turns to chocolate and spice. A well balanced wine with a nice long finish lingering with spice. The best BC wine I have tasted. At the same time, we also opened a bottle of 2012 Culmina Hypothesis and 2012 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco. We all preferred the Nota Bene by a long dranken mile.

Decanted thru Menu aerating decanter and drank over next 3 hours, before, during and after dinner. Nearly opaque purplish red. Medium body. Primarily dark fruit, but with raspberry and cherry hints, and strong licorice on the fairly long finish. Interesting. I have another 8 bottles, so I am looking forward to spacing them out and see how this one develops.

Delicious ripe red berries create a very tasty wine. This just shows that in the right hands great wine can be made all over the world. How they get the fruit ripe in Canada is beyond me, pick in November? But it works beautifully.
This wine was bottled in late spring 2016 so it is just celebrating its first year in bottle. A nice vibrant purple and red .... not thick or opaque. Beautiful ripe , sweet aromas of raspberries, cassis, spices (savoury), leather. A nice earthy component. Overall the wine is medium bodied, not weighty in the mouth but has good substance and presence. Opens with a rich ripe and sweet raspberry, cassis, and plum. But doesn't go over the top ..... good acidity. Very well balanced, well proportioned wine. Once the fruit subsides a bit, the earthy, leather, and herbal/spiciness comes through. The tannins are smooth and velvety, drying but not overpowering. However they build slightly towards the finish and then subside again. Almost a creamy chalkiness and milk chocolate at the finish. Speaking of the finish .... long with raspberry/chocolate and spices coming through. Overall a nice plush richness to the wine without being heavy or plodding. I love this wine. One of the best Nota Bene's I have had ..... one of the best Canadian wines I have had. Wonderfully complex and easy to drink. Its got many many more years of aging potential

Clear dark purple in colour. Clean nose of cassis and flora notesl. Dry, med body, med acidity, elegant tannins, nice balance, cassis, black chocolate, and earth on backend. Nice finish. Very nice wine. I took a break from Nota Bene for a few years. Wanted to see the wines after the recent great seasons in the Okanagan. Nota Bene didn't disappoint. Definitely one of the classier wines of the Okanagan. Looking forward to trying more.
Probably the best Nota Bene produced since the first vintage in 1999. The wine is very young and very serious! Gobs of fruits, without being jammy. Great tannins and fresh as always. This will require some cellaring and will be an absolute gem in 2022+...decant for 6-8 hours if you want to open a bottle now.
Bottle 1/5: Aromas of raspberries, plum & fruit leather hit your nose right away. On the back end there is an earthy component that I know will diminish with cellaring. The tannins are rich and smooth and provide a lot of structure to this wine right now. It has a spicy finish that lingers for well over 1 minute. Too early to drink - patience will be rewarded. The wine is medium - full weight and I will likely enjoy it with some elk or lamb dish.

Mid to dark colour, starting to show some age. Dried cherry, fermented strawberries, green pepper, maybe some licorice or something else savoury.
Very drinkable, but a short finish and lacks complexity. That said, so much better than earlier bottles - optimal drinking window?

Classic Nota Bene, albeit very young. Black fruits and sage aromas with its usual exemplary balance. This will develop very well over the next 5-7 years. Decanted for 3 hours.

Robust body featuring medium fruitiness and slight acidity. Modest tannins with a medium finish .
