Weekly tasting group #203; Cahors and a few pirates from Argentina (@ SB): Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, luxurious oak, cedar, some black olives, cinnamon and toast. On the palate firm dark fruits, chocolate and sweet spices. Red fruit acidity and round, but slightly sticky tannin. Good concentration and yet also elegant. Beautiful wine, still in the first half of its maturity stage. Drink between now and 2019.

Classic Cahors, inky, dark fruit in the nose. Still rather closed. Tannines already integrated, but upfront. Tasting now after decant for dinner-consumption tomorrow. More acidic after 1/2 hour in the glass. Not yet in balance, but quite nice.

Love how different Cahors malbec is from Mendoza. Inky color. Earth, dark dark fruit and a hint of smoke on the nose. Full bodied with rich notes of earth, spice and a subtle smokiness on the finish. Nice and smooth. Opened just to drink late one night; definitely should have saved for a meal.

90% Malbec, 5% Merlot, 5% Tannat. This is all in oak. 1/3 new, then 1/3 2nd pass, 1/3 3rd pass.
More ripe fruit to this than the Heritage. Also darker and far more structured. The three parts of the Chateau's vineyard are on the highest terrace within the region of Cahors, which is supposedly the best in the appllation. The vines are 20 to 50 years old in this bottle.

Inky dark, oozingly rich yet balanced red. Nice. Better glassware this time than last, maybe that helped too :)
