From a MGA vineyard near Neive. Decanted. Med ruby, w/ a garnet hue. Clean, med+ ripe red cherries, dried red roses, tobacco and just a touch of neutral oak. Dry, w/ plenty of fruit left. Med to med+ acidity, med, resolved tannins & high alcohol (14%). Med+ flavor intensity & length. It is drinking really well now, w/ several years of development left. It is not a standout wine, but is drinking much better than expected given some of the prior reviews.

Robust and generous. Initial fine grained tannins merge into the tart cherry fruit to support an earthyness. Not sure this is a $100 wine but I’ll put the last two bottles away for a couple more years.

The Kitchen Table, London 10yr Anniversary Event (The Kitchen Table, London): By the glass as part of the pairing for The Kitchen Table, London 10yr Anniversary Event. Expected this to richer and riper and in a way more one dimensional on the fruit given the 2013 vintage. Alas is softer, savory, sour edge at times, cherry and a goo presence of a tar edge. Palate fatigue had started to creep by this stage so unfort the rest of the fine elements were lost. 91 ish feel

Chris’ Italian Feast (Quality Chop House): Lovely fresh nose of very ripe strawberry, mint and rose soap. More robust on the palate than the Roagna - slightly sharper corners - but this opened up with some air and became a little more generous. Quite classic

Chris's Italian Dinner at QCH (Quality Chop House, Farringdon Road, London): Foursquare Barbaresco showing aromatically as one might expect with rose petal, tar, and sour cherry. There seemed to be slightly drying tannins and the fruit was not quite as pristine as the Roagna Paje drunk alongside it. A well made and quite powerful wine that seems true to its label which delivers but is not going to steal any hearts.

Chris's Italian Feast (The Quality Chop House): Evidently quite pale, even under dim candlelight, but plenty of energy on both the nose and the palate. Happily the nose wasn't any less lovely than it had been in March 2021 (when I first tasted this wine): gorgeous sweet fruit and flowers, elegant, with undertones of something exotic and woodsy. Much stricter and sterner on the palate, with plenty of tar and quite a kick of tannin on the crisp, juicy finish. Time in glass wasn't particularly helpful, as although the palate broadened and sweetened the nose seemed to tighten up and become slightly metallic; not sure whether I should just drink up my final bottle, or leave it a few years to see what happens.

Translucent tomato-y color. Initial nose dominated by alcohol, giving way to fruits, dried rather than fresh. I think that this effort wants a few more years of repose and a "winter" meal.
Served with a zucchini pasta, I didn't really focus on the wine other that determining that it wasn't "off" at opening. Decanted, drank over 2-3 hours.

Elvio Cogno with Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno (Zoom!): They have been making Barbaresco since 2005, as a challenge. The vineyard is in Neive, which traditionally produces elegant, approachable wines. Valter really likes the 2013s' fine tannins and freshness, and thinks they are ripe enough to be enjoyable already.
A gorgeous translucent tomatoey colour - really stunning. Gorgeous nose - crystalline, pure and tarry, with some rose petal coming through, followed by sweet strawberry. At the moment the principal impression on the palate is of the tannins, which are so fine that they're enjoyable in themselves. It's so elegant and airy and there's some delicious blackberry fruit coming through on the finish. Excellent showing.

Quite Reticent out of the bottle after pnp, consistent with expectation. After two hours the nose started to open: red fruit, floral, bit of spice box. Still tight and highly tannic, medium acid. Will not touch again for 5yrs. Shame on my impatience.

The 2013 Barbaresco Bordini is a wine of pure elegance and finesse. Dried rose petal, red cherry and orange rind characteristics flow from the glass and on the palate there's superb freshness and velvety tannins. A Barbaresco of striking vitality. Drink now or hold.

Vinosphere (Town Hall, Sydney): Polished and perfumed, pot pourri, sweet spice, slight sweet cherry, juicy fruit with very slight oxidised notes married to plentiful oak. Hmm.

Then the 2013 hit the table, which displayed an array of lifting aromatics. Medicinal cherry, dried flowers, sage, cinnamon and minerals rose up from the glass. On the palate, I found a youthfully-structured wine with silky textures contrasted by firm tannin, with concentrated tart berry and inner floral tones. A mix of intense dried red fruits and tannin coated the senses throughout the long and classically structured finish. There’s a lot of potential here.

Taste: Medium bodied with high acidity and high tannins. The tannins have a freshness to them, though they are quite youthful along with red cherries, roasted herbs, strawberries, spice tones, leather, and fresh picked red berries.
Overall: This is a very pretty and elegant wine. It shows off a lot of red fruits with an elegance and warmth to it. While one wouldn't be faulted for drinking it now, it would benefit from another 5-8 years of aging.

Very enjoyable. Prominent acidity that integrates with some time in the glass. Good cherry fruit. Soft tannins. Quite juicy. A touch of earthiness.
