Deep purple colour. Bouquet was smoky and damp earth. Flavours dominated by licorice, smoke, tar with vanilla (oak). Body was moderate and finish doesn’t linger. Very nice bottle.

In my opinion the best price quality wine out there! Plum, blackberry, cedar, graphite, soft vanilla, cherry, giving this Rioja a nice acidic touch to balance the dark fruit and oak, medium body, great long finish.

Excellent Rioja. Perfumed nose, nice depth of flavours, good richness and balance. A bit tight on short decant. Will cellar longer and give more decanting time for the next bottle.

Decanted for 1+ hours before first taste. Exotic bouquet of plums, prunes, pencil shavings, tobacco, and cedar shows floral charm and oxidative charisma. The palate is structured and powerful and replete with layers of textures, flavors, and complexity. There's so much elegance and cohesion here but it also has tremendous cellar potential. Fantastic.

The dark, brooding, rich, palette-dominating school of Rioja. Powerful, well-integrated tannins to support all the big fruit, with just-right acidity. A strong, robust nose even on opening, not much variation from the mouth — no floral notes on the nose, eg. Delicious, classic Rioja, crying out for meat and mushroom dishes and dark sauces. Very drinkable now but will def get better, hopefully add secondary/tertiary flavors/aromas for at least five years. At ~$40, I'm tempted to lay some down for much longer.

Having tasted this wine in every vintage since 2008 I must say that this one is quite different in style. Normally this wine is semi-modern with the wood in the background. This vintage smells and tastes more like traditional style Rioja with a lot of wood and vanilla, but unfortunately the vintage haven't got level to balance this, why it is not quite in harmony, being a little hollow in the middle taste, lacking concentration and length. I do like traditional style Rioja when the vintage justifies it, but this one is a bit disappointing and not quite the usual standard of Remelluri.

Maybe I should have read some recent reviews because I was amazed at how young and vibrant this wine was. At first it actually made me think of some of the better, more elegant Cali Pinot Noirs or Zinfandels. Surprisingly modern compared to older vintages of this. Fruit forward. Raspberry and currant. Later I found some the herbal and woody notes that I tend to like in classic Riojas. I'd wait a couple years to try again.

Appearance: clear medium ruby. Nose: medium plus intensity; aromas of vanilla, prune, cooked fruits, sweet tobacco, ripe red cherry, coconut, toast, rhubarb, nutiness, chocolate. It's fully developed. Palate: dry, medium plus acidity, medium plus tannins but very smooth and integrated, high alcohol, medium plus body, medium flavour intensity. The finish is medium as well. Overall, it's a good wine. Drink now, not suitable for further ageing. This bottle was cooked in transit I guess because the cork was pushing out a little. It may alter the fruit characters to a little stewed and raisin style (smell like Amarone), but the distinctive oak notes of vanilla, coconut gave it away as Rioja. It has a good balance between the acidity and alcohol. Oak is well integrated. It's enjoyable to drink. Decent wine to give it a go.

Very faded rim but still lots of purple here. Cooked strawberry on the nose, gentle balsamic notes, aromatic oak. Full tannins, furry then lots of coconut and nutty oaky notes.Medium body, not too concentrated fruit leaning more towards cherries and strawberry. Creamy finish. I think this is going to be excellent but at the the oak does rather dominate. Give it 5 years. Nice style of Rioja, modern but not monolithic.

Very young and far from being ready (even with a 2 hour decant) this does show promise with polished black cherry, fig, leather, and thyme. Tightly wound now but this should unfurl into a nice, modern styled Rioja in about 5 years

A special treat tonight to celebrate my Passing (with Merit), my WSET level 2 exam, and as is often my want, a trip to the Spanish Collection and this beauty. I felt it right to decant, and allow to blossom for an hour or so, but even on decanting the fruit leaped out of the bottle, and my glassware was awash with blackcurrants & black cherries, with cassis springing to mind.
After my impatient wait, the aromas of fruit were clear as I poured into my glass. The colour was a dark pool of redness, and I raised the glass with anticipation. I wasn't to be disappointed. The fruits I had been smelling all along, came out on the palate, with added vanilla, and savoury spices to the black berries. The overall balance was divine, with the tannins present, but underplayed, making the flavour the overriding sensation, rather than anything else.
Medium bodied, smooth, excellent balance, very moorish in its totality, and I will be happy to open another bottle when I next have something to celebrate.

A wonderful wine, quite up-front, luscious on the palate with pronounced & perhaps a too assertive wood-iness.
Gorgeous depth & nuanced on every sip: leather, vanilla & a touch of campfire.
It drank spectacularly… but not cohesively with food. It shone just on its own - and it shone like a beacon.
A lot of bottle passion here, folks.
