Medium body. Browning brick colored robe. Dark blue fruits on the nose and palate. An interesting combination of game flavors and sweet fruit. But the depth of the fruit has subsided quite a bit as has the acidity and structure, although there are very faint drying tannins on the finish. Very nice on entry and then the flavors disappear quickly into the mid palate, so the complexity is rather weak. Smooth and balanced, a bit fat / lacking acidity.

Greater Spotted Beaunes - Two 1999 1er Crus from each main commune in the Cotes de Beaune.. (David P's): Wow. I adore this. Such a complete wine, it has everything in perfect harmony. Nose has charming red fruited character with some cherry stone structure. There is something sweet and exotic like a few drops of fresh pineapple juice added with a pipette. Some cashew / peanut shell too on the palate. Broad palate with fully resolved tannins and lovely freshness.

1999 1er Cru Red Burgundies (East London): Gloriously sweet and rich, ripe. Fab. Depth and nuance in spades, a shining clarity to it and effortlessly easy to drink. So different from the Jadot, clearer and more intense and wine I immediately went back to afterwards. It got better as the evening went on, smooth red summer fruits and a long exciting finish. This felt like a CdNuits rather than a Beaune and for me was the standout wine of the tasting, just superb.
Tasted the 1999 many times over the last 5 years and they have all been consistently structured and brooding. Rich and ripe array of mixed cherries, smoked/ burnt tree stalk, earthy spices. Full bodied and slightly rustic. One can imagine this will age for decades, potentially improving with more ageing. (87/100)

Decanted and drank slowly over 3 hours. Cork fell apart. Classic burgundy on the nose from the moment it was opened. Nose was more expressive than the palate early. Started to open up after an hour, but really started to shine at 2 hours. Unfortunately shortly thereafter it completely faded and lost all fruit on the nose and became tart on the palate. Undrinkable after that. Enjoy it early.
La Paulée de New York - The Verticals (Eventi Hotel - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. Slightly more earth than mature red fruit with subtle spice. Good weight, just slightly more assertive acidity than I'd prefer for the depth of remaining fruit. Might evolve further and improve, but probably not.

Brilliant wine. I'm not a fan of Bouchard's reds...usually. And I've had a few tastes of the famous "Baby Jesus" before - even at Bouchard in Beaune. Was never before blown away by the wine...until this 19-year-old orphan bottle got popped. Wow - this thing had everything you could want. Grand Cru quality. Cellared since release, prof storage, exc fill. PopNPour into Riedel O glass -> Earthy, dusty, mute, hard to tell was Pinot Noir based wine. Double decanted balance of bottle, VacuVin'd once back in original bottle, retried at 24 h.
Then: earthy and dusty, clearly an intellectual wine of soil and structure; while Pinote, not Rabelaisian fruit. Good depth, good length... but still feel this wine needs a lot of time, the breadth of palate flavors feels like it needs a lot more time to reveal itself. Enjoyed- mostly respected- but will not pour a bottle for others without serious decanter time. For my palate 90 points but could be 92 with time. This is a very serious wine that should not be lightly poured. (Note bottles from 1865 reviewed by Burghound). IMHO, the very high end Beaunes like this need a lot of time to come around and are not made to be tossed down... notes by Burgandy and Englishman's Claret resonate; (the famous saying that this wine tastes like Infant Jesus in his velvet pants... maybe so in another 20 years).

Drank over lunch today in Westhampton. Color has faded badly. Almost clear liquid. Lovely, fragrant nose of strawberries, other red fruit and earth. Light to medium bodied, quite earthy and dusty, with some remaining fruit on the palate. Tertiary elements dominate. Good example of a quality aged red burg. Alas, my last bottle.

Dark black cherry nose and palate predominates. A little tannin and earth rounds out the palate. Good, classy wine but not my preferred style - heavier as opposed to light, burly rather than elegant, dark fruited instead of red.

1999 BOUCHARD PERE & FILS GREVES VIGNES L`ENFANT JESUS BEAUNE 1ER CRU- the color was mid terracotta red; the nose was strongly inviting further exploration and I obliged and discovered wonderful spicy, ginger with a mild hit of burnt cherry; the taste profile had some nice spicy red cherry that had a slight sweetness along with a touch of wood and earthiness and dark cherry notes; it`s firm structure, bright acidity and soft tannic backbone should carry this into a few more decades; the mouthfeel is so soft and smooth until just before the finish where the tannins show up with more strength; this is a fabulous red Burgundy and promises to be a charmer.

From 750 at Troquet. Just edging into maturity and picked up with an hour in the decanter. Multi-faceted nose; at first more red and citric with raspberry and blackberry developing later. Plenty of floral notes; rosewater. Earthy mineral, leather, and cinnamon rounded out the picture; almost like a more sophisticated Theurons. Beautifully balanced on the palate; velvet without seams. Very much enjoyed and suspect it will be even better in a few years.

Baby Jesus (Bouchard), Yquem, Madeira, Rhys, RM (John V.'s): Seemed to be some controversy here. Some found off musty flavors. Jeff thought it might be corked. I was fine with it. I might have hoped for a bit more from this vintage, it drank just fine with me. Cherries and cherry powdered drink mix on the nose. Complex. Nice streak of acidity. Firm tannins. I think this was still just waking up.

Took about two hours or so to open up, just simply wonderful once it showed itself. Dark cherry, spiced cranberries, some wood on the nose. On the palate, there is dark cherry, liqueur, kir, earth, and pomegranate. Some wood which still needs time to integrate but it is not intrusive. Viscous and concentrated. A great Jesus. This will age. First from a case -- anniversary wine -- I plan to drink the last bottle 20-25 years from now. Has the stuffing to make it over the long haul.

Still lively and maybe for 4-5 years more. Colour somewhat orange. Pronounced on the nose. Lovely farmyard smells, gamey, leather, wet fur, earth, musty, red fruit, tobacco, perfumed. Pronounced also on the palate, surprisingly strong red fruit, leather, tobacco, earthy, quite a feast. Medium + finish.

As others have suggested, the nose is initially a bit muted but it does open up and it's delightfully fresh and complex when it does, revealing strawberry fruit, earth, a mild gaminess, some spice perhaps. On the palate, there is good acidity, even minerality, and quite a bit of tannin left, fairly solid if not quite chunky. I would open another (if I had one!) in two to three years.

Mid red colour with slight thinning at the edges. Initially quite reticent on the nose, some nice red fruits but not a lot of interest. With time it opened and showed more spice notes, fine ripe tannins. Medium bodied, and elegant, but understated. Drank alongside '99 Bouchard Volnay Caillerets ACC which I preferred, perhaps a different story in another 5 years. Museum release direct from Bouchard.

Delightful, mature Burgundy that got better and better as it opened up. Poured from magnum, this wine had a nice sweet fruit finish, but wasn't particularly spicy or oaky. Lacked a certain depth to put it in top tier territory, nevertheless a good swish!

Medium ruby with bricky highlights at the sides - Earthy and tobacco nose, some dried cherry/leather - much nicer on the palate, where it really shines - bright and well balanced, with beautiful kirsch and ripe berry, repeating the sweet tobacco note, with a long finish - tannins still assert themselves on the finish, but this is drinking just right, with a few years yet to go, a beautiful wine - not overly elegant, but tasty.

Dark color, no signs of aging. The wine seems monolithic at first, big, concentrated with dark bitter cherries dominating. A distinct smoke whiff testifies that this baby saw a lot of oak and that maybe it is not completely integrated yet. It is a big, concentrated wine in the mouth, tannins are very present but of high quality. Very mineral Impressive length. This is just losing its baby fat and entering adolescence. Wish I had more to see it acquire more complexity in the future.

Probably ~88 pts; This wine's cork showed clear indications of seepage including being completely soaked throughout and on top of the cork. My expectations were low after viewing the cork but I decanted to see how this one might turn out. Initially it did not taste that much like Pinot but more like Sangio. After it opened up its structure was evident and it was quite a nice aged Burgundy (albeit youngish). Because of the seepage we will probably open another soon.

Boy this has great structure. As expected this is tight tight tight, so I decanted for 2+ hours. The color is deep purple and this is about as dark a burgundy as I have seen. Medium+ bodied. Gorgeous nose of amareto and dark cherries from the decanter, but giving little on the nose once in the glass. Nice fresh cherries and leather on the palate. Long finish, but still doesn't give out much on the back end. Tannins are dry very similar to a 7-8 year old barolo at this point. Boy this has a great life ahead of it, but I wouldn't touch it for another 5 years. Yes - people are right - leave those '99s to sleep - they need a whole lot of time. The bones are right and this could become rated a lot more than 91 down the road. 90-92
OK - after two days vacuum sealed in the fridge I poured my last glass. Wow!!! The nose of cherries and amareto is showing very in the glass now. The rough tannins are gone and the texture is silky. Beautiful sour cherry, plums and a bit of a bubble gum sweetness. Nice medium plus length on finish. Wow - what a treat. Please let this puppy sleep for another 3-5 years. This is gorgeous. 92-94

Clear and bright medium blood/ruby. Just a touch of brick showing in the fairly narrow plaer rim. Nose has a lovely, gentle rustic feel to it. There's nice fresh red fruit - raspberries and redcurrants - an earthy leafmould layer beneath, and a touch of spice. There's also a slightly warm, baked edge to it. Not powerful or sophisticated, but still pleasing. Mouth entry is silky smooth with pliant fresh red fruit. Good acidity on the mid-palate too, which shows bright red fruit and a nice earthy depth to it. A touch of tannic structure showing on the finish, which is a good length. Very nice now, but will benefit from more time in the cellar. ***

Nice dark cherry color and nose of plum and earth. Interesting on the palate, more minerals and earth than fruit. Some complexity. May have drunk this too soon, but a very good wine nonetheless. I would suggest waiting 2 years plus before drinking this wine. No flaws, it just seems to need more time for the components to integrate.

I have had the good fortune to have two bottles of this wine over as many months and both have been very good. Both were decanted for about and hour and likely would have benefitted from more. Very saturated dark ruby color. The fruit on the nose is so intense and luscious--sour cherry and plum--these not only persist but crescendo over a very long finish. Initially, there was a little mineral and mint dancing around he fruit core and later some mushroom and earth emerged. I suspect that the fruit here will remain fresh for a few years while the wine gains in complexity, but I don't know that I could keep my hands off it long enough to find out...

Light to medium bodied, quite earthy and dusty, with some remaining fruit on the palate. Tertiary elements dominate. Good example of a quality aged red burg. Alas, my last bottle.

Lovely soft and feminine aromas including cherry and strawberry. Elegant on the palate, balanced with red fruits, primarily strawberry, cherry, and good length. Drinking well now with pleasing complexity. From a magnum.

Dark black cherry nose and palate predominates. A little tannin and earth rounds out the palate. Good, classy wine but not my preferred style - heavier as opposed to light, burly rather than elegant, dark fruited instead of red.

Pinot from around the world (Pacific Dining Car): Tasted blind. Cherry coke, a bit simple, not so interesting. A little coarse and more tannin on the finish. Maybe the older NZ Pinot?
After the reveal: Huh, this bottle just didn't show very well.

I might have hoped for a bit more from this vintage, it drank just fine with me. Cherries and cherry powdered drink mix on the nose. Complex. Nice streak of acidity. Firm tannins. I think this was still just waking up.

After 2 hours of airing, it displays a superb nose, complex, ethereal. The taste is essentially fruity, red fruits, with a medium length.

Drank with Pinot group... Dark young looking. Nice earthy dark fruit and a little wet earth on the nose. Great balance, and probably just entering its window. Not as round and without the depth of the 1990.

Light ruby. Attractive nose hints at approaching maturity, and the wine has substantial rich fruit. But the tannins are a bit harsh, almost bitter. I would hold and hope that the tannins will fade a bit. Certainly has a long life.
