Holiday Burgundy Lunch (Scottsdale, AZ): Served blind. This was sweet, spicy, and sexy. A wine that is virtually impossible to dislike, and goes down quickly. Pretty much the total package, except it wasn't quite as precise and delineated as the other stellar reds today.

Dujac @ Trompette (La Trompette, London): Again, quite savoury. Nicely fresh on the palate. Quite silky dense - density without excessive breadth; lots of line here. Mineral and savoury. A wine to keep coming back to. ****1/2

Showing a good level of maturity. I must confess I've never understood the hype behind Dujac. Sure they're well made and interesting but I don't find myself waxing lyrical about the style which is heavily accented by the stems. In my view stems are like oak, to be used sparingly as a supporting component. If you can see the stems and they're a dominant feature then there's too much. I virtually never buy the Dujac wines purely because I think their house style is dominated by stemmy characters which mask the expression of the fruit. This wine confirms this for me. Don't get me wrong it is a lovely wine, very lithe and supple, certainly Grand Cru Pedigree but after twenty years the stems are still too dominant for my liking and detract from the wine a bit. I'm being a bit picky here but a slightly green element from the stems and the rusticity that has come with maturity is accentuated by the stems for me. I like the wine though as it does show its class and typical of the vintage there is some structure there but it's melted away now showing a finer profile. I always thought the 93's were built to last. Very good maybe better bottles than this one out there.
Deep fruit with intensity of flavor but not at all overripe, well complemented by spice and soil tones. Very pleased with this bottle, a testament to the winemaking skills at the domaine. In no danger of fading, but at a peak.

La Paulee 2.0 S.F.: Amazing trio of 93's(Drouhin RSV, DRC LT)...best nose of the night! Flowers jump from the glass...cold smoke, liqueur berry fruit, plum, cherry...intoxication.

Tasted blind, this wine had a red center and tawny/red rims. The high intensity nose of black cherries, rhubarb, cola, and soil was as good as it gets.
In the mouth, the wine had lovely rounded tannin and very good length. However, it did not offer quite the complexity or drama shown by the nose. Did it get enough air? Will it improve with age?
I think I would be inclined to cellar this for 5-10 more years. However, I don't expect it to pick up more than a point.

Decanted over an hour - it started rather simple and light at about 30 minutes but wow, it picked up beautifully with some time. At its peak this is quite delicious with classic medium dark fruit balanced by sour acidity and earthy sweetness. This will be great for quite some time.

Huge nose of baking spices, earth, sauvage, stems. Elegant. Totally 3D. Round and tight on the palate. Great spice and stems, bright cherry fruit and earth. Everything you can want in a burg. Nose - 6/6, Palate - 6/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 2/2 = 19.5/20.

Quite expressive, with both floral and spice notes. Bonnes Mares served alongside required more time in bottle and was well structured.

Paulee. Stemmy goodness, would outperform DRC in this vintage.

Electric nose and that continues on to the palate of just now-mature juicy fruit and class. A very satisfying wine.
