100% Tempranillo from Ribera del Duero. 24-months in French oak and bottled-aged thereafter. 14.5% alcohol. Decanted one hour. Deep garnet colour. Pronounced nose of black berries, liquorice, spice and vanilla. Very supple and silky tannins compared to the more powerful Pesquera Millenium. Surprisingly fresh with a good finish.

A private dinner with friends (Polsbroek, NL): Tasted blind. Fresh and youthful for its age, finely grained tannins, bright and sweet fruit, hint of vanilla, new world in style (I guessed it was from South Africa), very good length.

A monster tasting at Laszlo's: VA, nail polish, coconut and cola on the nose. Palate also has a cola profile with the oak wrapping over the fruit. The description makes it sound less appealing than I found it, there was something interesting about it.

Aromas of wild blueberry and cherry preserves, prunes, tobacco, autumn leaves, baking spice, vanilla... Full, rich and very ripe on the palate, quite warm and spicy, but then there's deep savory and soil nuance as well, tannins are pretty much resolved but may become smoother, they are not yet velvety, acids are adequate but this could use more zip and brightness if you ask me. Long on cooked and dried fruit flavors, as well as plenty of earthy and spicy nuance. This is probably in its prime, but may improve, and should be worth following for another decade or so. Not really my thing, but commendable and complex. I'd probably be a lot happier if this had been paired with some grilled lamb.

Really fabulous Ribera. Big wine at 15%! On the young side, but drinking now if you decant for a good 4-6 hours. I think this will benefit from a few years of cellaring. Will love to see what this is like in 10 years.

Really lively at 12 years old! Dense and firm. Certainly built for long term cellaring. Complex and charming on the nose. Great tannin structure. Well defined flavours on the palate with dark fruits, cola, caramel, vanilla pod and dark chocolate. American oak is still quite present at the moment with some velvety texture. Lingering long finish. Would easily last for another decade!

This is dense, thick, with plenty of soft tannins, and high alcohol. Yet somehow it retains enough freshness to still be quality food wine.
Perhaps now it’s in its best dinking period.
15%, cork.
