Decanted; approximately 90 minutes of air. Detailed notes not taken. Impression is that this is drinking well now. Tannins are fine-grained and tamed. Beautiful balance of fruit, flowers, and tar. Have no doubt this will continue to improve for some time but don’t feel guilty for opening now.

Great Vignolo at its 10th birthday. Bouquet of violets, umami, mushrooms, cherries, white pepper and some cedar. The palate is very demanding and the wine got better after a 2 hour decant. A mouthful of refined tannins, it’s all you want from a classic, old school Barolo which just barely starts to blossom.

Big and dark, with smokey chocolate and dark black fruit; tight, taut and austere; a lot of stuffing; big structure. Very young and long finish. Needs a lot of time but lots of upside

Accomasso Tasting plus some great Barolo Pirates (Freiheit Vinothek, Ulm, Germany): *** all wines tasted blind *** Glass: Zwiesel 1872 Moment Pinot Clean, deep ruby color. Clean, classic Barolo nose, very fine and elegant. Almost the same elegance as the first wine, a bit more flesh and power. Herbaceous, some green tomato notes, great pressure. Very young. Needs a lot of time. 93-94+

Thanksgiving week in Piemonte; 11/22/2019-11/30/2019 (Milan, Barolo, Alba, Barbaresco): Tasted at the winery. After the '12s - the '13's are much more tannic and less open in style. The color and palate here are darker fruited in character, still with the earthy elements but the tannins have not yet released their grip - will need another 5 -10 years of cellaring to be approachable.

Piedmont II - better and learnings; 11/23/2019-11/29/2019 (Barolo, Alba, others): Blackberry on the nose and also in the glass. Good spices. Soft but drying tannin. Again that elegance, but also the youth. The spices seem to expand in the glass. Enjoyable, but not for drinking today.
