42nd Annual Zinfandel Retrospective - the 2015s (R&D's): Blind. Aromas of earth, red and black fruit and dried herbs. Flavors of chocolate and ripe red berry fruit. The herb and chocolate qualities stand out more the longer this sits in the glass. (R&D)

Less than positive experience with last tasting of this wine, so decided to put a rush on opening my remaining bottle. To my delight, showing much better this time around.
Dried red fruit, blackberry compote, wet tobacco, chinese five spice, freshly turned soil.
Palate has great balance. Plush tannins, medium acidity, alcohol in check when served near cellar temp.

Distinct aroma of peanut butter, kind of hard to see past. tart cherries, plum, oak.
Fairly high tannins for zin, especially at 7 years old. Medium acidity. Peanut butter carries through to the palate, not unpleasant, just seems out of place?
Not a “bad” bottle, but one of my least favorite experiences with Turley.

Racy berries ranging from grapey notes to something like a melted raspberry sauce. All very good though hinting at being just past peak. Consider decanting because it’s a cloudy wine upon pouring straight from horizontal in the cellar.

In a great spot, rich, ripe and flavorful but definitely performing a high wire act. Round mouthfeel, with dark ripe fruits, hints of raspberry kirsch, orange rind and black pepper. Well resolved smooth tannins with a long and complex finish. There’s just enough acidity and minerality to hold this package together. This is good if you like the slightly hedonistic Turley style, and a significant step up on the Old Vines for a few dollars more. Great value!

Opened and slow ox'd for a while. Red fruit on the nose. The palate was cherry, strawberry and rhubarb A touch of spice that came out in the finish which was moderate to long.

Still fresh after 5 years. Stewed plum and cherry. Holiday spice, mint and Eucalyptus. A mix of Evangelho, Mori and Salvador (RIP) fruit. Prominent Contra Costa silky tannins....it's at a great spot right now for a powerful but not jammy Zinfandel.

Dark fruit, with fading sweetness - moving into a better, more savory/balanced space. Gotta give these turleys a couple of years to settle/lose the baby fat.

2015 Turley horizontal, 10 Zins and a White Coat. Third up, this was a bit less big and fruity than the first two (Dragon and Cobb). Members of our group that liked more subtle wines, Burgs for instance, appreciated this more. I was a bit disappointed, I really like Matt Clines Three wines from a Contra Costa, this seemed a bit reticent, with some sour notes. I wouldn’t pour it out, though, and properly paired, it could be quite good.

Blueberry, spices, white blossoms, and thai basil on the nose. Carries over to the palate with mint and cedar notes. Nice finish, still too young. Hold to 2019-20, should improve

Thin at first. Filled out after an hour. Super spicy finish. Ripe raspberry on the palate. A ton of non discernable spice to finish out. Good but not my favorite Turley. Quaff with BBQ, Thai, or anything big and spicy.

Had this with my wine group, along with 5 other Turley wines. This might have been WOTN. It is the reason I started drinking Turley Zins all those years ago. Fresh, fruity and the alcohol takes a secondary position behind the fruit. It went really well with my Cheeseburger.

Third or fourth bottle for me. With all this Turley I lose count. Can you blame me. This bottle, however, a little less pronounced then its sisters in all attributes that I previously commented on. Somewhat effervescent in the taste. Still one good wine though and dare I say to all those Turley newbies better Zin tastes than you would find elsewhere. To all us Turley aficianados, however, somewhat of a disappointment when you weigh this bottle against its quality plus sisters.

No formal notes, but very drinkable. Doesn't come off as disjointed despite its young age. Red fruit aromas came wafting out of the bottle right when I popped it. Had a great balance of red fruit, earth and spice. Good acidity and fruit friendly. Eminently approachable now, but likely to develop more subtleties down the road.

More perfection. I don't really keep close track of all of them anymore but I'd put this Turley in the upper third of the single vineyards from the vintage and I've had most of them now

I do not know what others are drinking but zinfandel does not get much better than this. Thank you Larry. This cuvee when served slightly chilled at about 60 degrees is powerful and memorable and to my palate at least out of this world. Smooth and well balanced with well-blended fruits and herbs abound. Mainly a dark fruit earthly wine with mounds of Turley spices. Long aftertaste.

Blueberry nose, vanilla, blueberry, black raspberry on the palate. Picking up a bit of citrus on the back end. Better after 1/2 hour. Probably too young

Very dark ruby color; aromatic, lifted, savory, wild berry, boysenberry, black cherry nose; tasty, briary, wild berry, boysenberry, black cherry palate with good balancing acidity; needs 1-plus year; medium-plus finish
