  • A very nice bottle of chablis but just lacks a bit of tension to make it really great.

  • Decanted for ~2hrs prior to serving. This had certainly developed well. Beautiful florals, with lemons, grapefruits on the palate enveloped by a slight oily texture. This was so well balanced and controlled with just the right weight and finish! A very "zen" wine in its current (drinking) window.

  • Lovely wine, showing first clear signs of ageing, but has plenty of live left.

  • Clean & sharp
Citrus peel, ginger, salt water taffy

  • Very nice wine, precise and clean, soft but not fat, very mineral and a bit salty.

  • Yeah, you wanna chill this one before trying it. On the fat and oily side of chardonnay, not only for chablis 1er cru but for chardonnay, period. Great juice and very expressive. But a really big wine. Blind, I would have guessed Napa Valley.

  • Bouquet of chrysanthemum floral, citrus spices and pomelo. Round and forward spicy palate displaying grapefruit, pomegranate, pomelo, lemon zests, citrus, slate and stone mineral. Good carry on the weight and volume through the entire length.

  • Lots of character in this one. To me not the most representative for Chablis, but absolutely amazing anyways. Full and sharp, powerful and elegant. Just a massive wine!

Big and intense on the nose with lots of white floral scents and fruits such as pineapple, preserved lemon, ripe peach and yellow apple, followed by a nice leesy touch, warm scone, cashew nuts, vanilla, cardamom and mild beeswax. The wood is well balanced in the aromas with a delicate smoky touch, and the malo is definitely present reminding me of Danish “koldskål”.
On the palate, it’s rich and heavy, dry, super soft but perfectly balanced with a pretty high acidity and a sick minerality. Citrus galore, quince and ripe pear, acacia honey, lees, apple pie, nuts and a bit of baking spices. Long chalky and saline finish.

  • Decanted for ~3+hrs prior to serving. Immediately charming, this exuded a most floral bouquet from the get-go - lilies/white-flowers, honey. As impressive as I recalled it to be on the palate too - some roundness with good weight/concentration, but tensile at the same time. Finished fresh & long. Most guesses veered towards Chassagne with none on Chablis...

  • Slightly on the rich side but still identifiably chablis. Intense minerality. A broad wine, not linear. A solid expression of 2015 chablis.

  • Double decanted, enjoyed over two hours. Wildly floral from the get-go, by the second glass the nose had shifted its balance to fresh white fruits, some spice, a little chalky/mineral/place, etc. Lovely weight on the medium body, fresh and with good length. A pleasure, may have to find some straightaway. highly recommended

  • 2nd-btl from a case, popped and slow-ox'ed for ~2+hrs before serving. Similar to the previous bottle, this was extremely floral, w/ scents of lilies, acacia, honey, white/green fruits bombarding the senses. Unassumingly seriously-weighted on the palate, this had great body, with such levels of minerality/salinity and freshness too! So very tasty & inviting! Will most certainly improve with cellar age!

  • First time tasting from Pattens Loup's production. Apple, pear, melon, and hints of honey where all structured among its crisp acidity and saline nose. Really impressed.

  • This wine is amazing, kept longer in the cellar and shows many facets, like a palette of impressions almost meditative a very different wine , maybe a new wave to consider.

  • Disappointing tonight. Started with a borderline premox nose and palate. Flat.
    Got better with air though.
But still, not a good bottle so I’ll withhold my judgement on that one.

  • This is a huge Chablis, pure bliss, spent more time in the cellar at Thomas Pico about 33 month before release.

  • Extremely floral wine - scents of lilies, ginger, honey, lime, white/green fruits wafted from the glass as it warmed up... that matched the palate as well - almost full-bodied, with tinge of oily feel awashed with a good dope of minerality/salinity and freshness culminating in a nice long finish. Very nice!

  • So, when fine wine drinkers think Chablis, it’s Raveneau & Dauvissat they desire the most. I would say that you could add Pattes Loup to that list and it is less expensive than the fore mentioned. Really appreciate the 11.4% ABV.

The nose is beautiful revealing; golden & green apple, ripe pineapple, lemon with peel, lime zest, tropical melon with green dominant, peach, apricots, grapefruit, orange citrus blend, some brown butter, excellent cream notes, caramel, honeysuckle, waxy notes, vanillin bean, butterscotch candy, slivered almonds, amazing chalkiness, volcanics, sea fossils, touch of saline, understated white spice, light herbaceousiness with yellow flowers/lilies. A dash of spring flowers framed in orange blooms and jasmine.

The body is full, round, waxy & gorgeous. Excellent viscosity for those that enjoy that. It is simply a beautiful elegant wine. Golden & Granny Smith green apples, ripe pineapple, lemon with peel, lime zest, tropical melon with green dominant, more peach on the palate than nose, apricots, grapefruit, orange citrus blend, some brown butter, excellent cream notes, melted, salted caramel, warm toast, honeysuckle, waxy notes, vanillin bean, butterscotch candy, slivered almonds, amazing chalkiness, crushed & powdery volcanics, sea fossils, touch of saline, soft woodiness, understated white spice with delicate palate heat, fresh Provence herbs with yellow flowers/lilies. A dash of spring flowers framed in orange blooms and jasmine. The round acidity is voluptuous & near perfect. The long finish is simply, rich, lush, well balanced and persists delicately for minutes. A wine well worth seeking out if you have not tried Pattes Loup. This bottling will pick up another point or two with 3-5 more years in bottle.

Producer notes & introduction. Third generation vigneron, Thomas Pico, took over his grandfather’s work in 2004. Pico’s grandfather planted and worked his terroir in the hillsides near Courgis and Preys, the two highest altitude villages within Chablis, with vineyards up to 300 meters. It was in the 1970’s when Pico’s father took over the Domaine.

In 2004, Pico returned back to his home town of Courgis after completing his studies of viticulture and oenology in Beaune. Pico began farming 8 hectares of vines immediately converting the vineyards to organic. In 2006, Pico released his first wines under the Pattes Loup label founded on the principles of organic farming, low yield harvesting, and minimal intervention. In 2009, the domaine was certified Agriculture Biologique by ECOCERT. Pico gained a reputation locally and internationally as one of Chablis most exciting growers/winemakers releasing wines with only one issue, there wasn’t enough.

In August of 2011, Antonio Galloni professed, “Pattes Loup is arguably the single most exciting young Domaine’s in Chablis today… Stylistically, Pico’s wines remind me of the laser-like focus of Cedric Bouchard‘s Champagnes combined with the richness and inner sweetness found in the wines of the late Didier Dagueneau. Simply put, these are some of the most ground-breaking, intensely captivating wines being made in Chablis today.”

All work at the domaine is done by hand. Only indigenous yeasts are used in the cellar and élevage occurs on the lees at cold temperatures for 14 to over 30 months. Malolactic fermentation begins and finishes naturally. Pico works with a combination of concrete egg shaped fermenters along with stainless steel tanks and used French oak of different sizes depending on the cuvée. The wines are never fined or filtered before bottling. Pico is evolving and is always fine tuning his work in the cellar. Over the years, he has decreased the amount of his sulphur use, extended élevage, and is now using expensive Portuguese wood corks for bottling believing, “the cork is my finishing touch.”

  • Nice medium-pale gold colour. On the nose, this wine presents aromas of apples, minerals and orchid type aromas. On the palate, the attack is frank, with a good seam of acidity leading to fruity, mineral and surprisingly oxidative notes - giving it aromas of toast, smoke and faint nutty rancio. It is funny as I get the impression that they mixed some reductive lots with oxidative lots, though I would say the latter dominates. Gives a very pleasant complexity which I really enjoy, though it throws me for a loop as to how long this will live despite its good acidity, density and minerality. If it didn't work so well, I would have assumed that it is defective, but it is oddly very good like this. Good concentration and density, medium length and a good complexity. I'll follow this over the next few days and adapt my comment depending on how it evolves. Would I buy it again? I would probably have to try a 2014 or 2017 to get a better idea. I'm still thrown by the oxidative aromas in this 2015 to be sure. That being said, I do find it expensive compared to a Picq for example and probably a lesser value factoring in the price. 91?

Over three days - it closes a little bit on the second day and opens up a bit on the third. The oxidative notes were not apparent on the second day. Very good, but no better than a Gilbert Picq Vosgros 2012 or 2014 which I can get at 60% of the price. Though admittedly I'm comparing two of the better recent vintages with a lesser, rounder vintage (2015). I'd have to taste another vintage of this or compare both from the same vintage. Still rating this 91. I like it, but for that price, I'd want to be a little more impressed. For this vintage, happily taste again, but not buy again.

  • Apple jelly and sea breeze. White flowers and ginger. Citrus candy and moss. Touch of toastiness and smoke. Dense and textured. Full in body. Great acid line through its richness. Lots of umami and oxidative notes, but it is tightly wound and it's probably just starting to show how wild it will be. Classic long saline and stony finish. Left this open for 3 days and it just got better. Note is from day 3.

  • Sunday wines and not wines (Chicago, IL): Mise tardive. Absolutely incredibly chablis that far exceeds the vintage reputation. There's no question this is quintessential chablis, with tons of salinity and just a squeeze of lemon. The fruit is surprisingly subdued, and this is a wine all about the minerality and salinity. The acid isn't too sharp, but there's enough to provide balance. An outstanding effort, and one of the better 2015 white Burgundies I've tasted so far.

  • Outstanding, beautiful hint of butterscotch on the nose. Long finish with wonderful minerality. I will hold this for next year and drink my 14’s first. The price has almost doubled from the 2014’s.

  • Shows ebullient fruit qualities, bordering on the tropical. The palate gives you up front flesh, then things tighten. Towards the finish it’s all chalky mineral and salt and it is bone-dry, crisp and refreshing.

  • Spring Swing Through France-Random Wines Tasted or Imbibed; 4/14/2018-4/25/2018 (Burgundy, Alsace, Paris): Still in tank. The best of the 2015’s we had today, combining its ripe citrus fruit and silky feel with more authoritative acidity and minerality for some tension. Excellent Premier Cru.
