Beautiful nose of cherry, cranberry, and lots of flowers like rose and violets. One the palate, there is also a bit of smokiness/tar. Tannins are starting to integrate beautifully. It’s a wine of pleasure although it doesn’t have the complexity and length of the best Barolos.

Am I the only one who think 2013 nebbiolo is quite dull? This is balanced in mouth but nose is almost nothing else than solvent and alcohol. No beatiful perfume or fruit.
Quite young still, rosy and floral but with a good deal of heat, medium+ tannins, quite dry on the palate. Will hold on to second bottle for at least a couple of years more. 90-91p
Decanted 90 minutes. Full body, wooded barolo. Not the most complex, but very enjoyable. Dark plums, sour cherry, melted tannins, medium length. Ready to drink but will keep more years…

Consistent with previous bottles. Textbook nebbiolo with ripe sour cherry, baking spice and hints of cigar box. Plenty of structure to continue development but very enjoyable now with or without food.

Dark red. Nose of dark cherry, licorice, pharmacy shelf, and leather. Palate is tight and vibrant. Purple fruit, tar, and sweet licorice. A decent wine tbh.

Consistent with previous bottle but needed over an hour in the decanter to open up. Was a bit tight upon opening so might be shutting down a bit. Still showed lots of pure tart cherry and rose petal with baking spice and cigar box on the finish, along with some drying tannin.
To my palate, Renato Ratti is one of those producers that seems to be gradually improving in quality. And while the wines tends to lean a bit “modern” with the shorter maceration times and use of some barrique, the “Marcenasco” designation is slightly more traditional and aged exclusively in large botti. The 2013 vintage pours a deep ruby with a translucent core. On the nose, the wine is intense with a stunning amount of tar and roses on the nose; like, all the tar and roses. There’s some desiccated red and black fruits in there too. On the palate, the wine is bone dry with high tannins and medium+ acid. Again, red and dark fruits; some of them desiccated with licorice, porcini and dried herbs. There is an overwhelming charm that I found to be pretty compelling. A more elegantly-styled Barolo and while it’s not the most complex example, it hits the marks that one should expect from a good producer. I’m sure a “classic” vintage like 2013 helps some. The finish is long and savory and very satisfying. Pretty lovely stuff. Probably the best I’ve had from Ratti yet.
Piaciuto tanto. Grande.
Very tight and it takes plenty of time in the air to start revealing its fruit and dimensions. Vill probably need another 2-4 years. 89 today, still a very good wine but has potential to gain 3-4 points.
First batch of this wine that I have opened . PnP so immediate notes. Tremendous nose of cherry, cedar wood and some rose petal. In mouth this is a struggling wine at this stage. The viscosity is light and the wine feels watery. I mean how can a wine have such a wonderful nose and in mouth be so muted ? Finish has the goods with tannins and an acidity to suppport. Seems like I opened too early. I will follow up on day 2.
Beautiful colour shifting brick red and great on the nose, mixing cherries and truffles. Bright, young, lively and with tannis that still have a firm grip. Great wine !!
Decanter for 75 minutes before drinking. Good balance of acidity and tannins. Bit of cherry, sufficiently ‘fresh’ in the mouth. Still on the young side but already tastes great. Too bad this was the only 2013 I had as I purchased more 2015 and 2016 recently.
Decanted for 30 mins. Pale garnet color. Very typical nose of red cherry, fresh and dried, with some floral rose petal notes, a bit of sweet baking spice and old cedar cigar box. Similar flavors on the palate with lovely cherry and almost strawberry fruit with drying tannins on the finish. High acid but very balanced. Enjoyable now with some air and food but certainly will continue to develop. Very nice Barolo for the price paid.
Really good and clean Barolo after 3 ours in dekanter. Good fruit and elegance. A bit rouge tannins though. Expect this will be a really excellent Nebbiolo within a few years and at least 5 years ahead thereafter.
Big, modern Barolo. Tannin is still on the rough side in this 5 year old but a few hours in the decanter tamed them. I think another couple of years will help too.
Salt liquorice, dried herbs that remind me of really good tequila, beautiful oak handling. This feels totally different from last bottle. This was good last time, but now its even better. With one day opened in bottle in mind, keep the last one longer!
This is the vineyard that gets the Ratti family excited I am being told. Soft fruit on the mid and then a lively back palate with good structure.
Apparently there is an interview with ...
Young vine Rocche, which is Domaine, two other vineyard sites all in La Morra - Torogoli and Sara de Turchi (sp? - on both, don't know those). Yep, we found them on the map.
Typically, "Thermo-controlled fermentation at a temperature of 30°C (85°F); Average time of maceration: 7-10 days; Malolactic Fermentation in Nov in oak barrels; Aging: 2 years in oak barrels of 25hl and 50 hl."
P: Med, poss LM, body: NICE, almost swtish frt met by puckerish astringency (but still with the frt substrate) as it transitions into a LONG finish with both a PUCKER & a swtness to the very, VERY fine tannins. NEEDS through '21 *min*, I'm guessing, then making its 15th? 14% ABV; My EXC-, higher a GOOD bet down the line. 95 pts WE @ $50 (+ their #54/Top 100 for '17), 94 ea Suckling & The Wine Front, 93 WA, and 92 ea Vinous & WS! Good nose Pepper - heavy spices Good tannins - I wanted more on the fruit and leather Newer style barolo I can see the high pts from professional reviews- just not my palate
I guess this could be a below par bottle - the nose is reductive while the palate had dried fruits, leather but not showing in a totally pleasant manner for me.
The nose is a little reductive and carries cherries and some cedar oak. The palate has juicy cherries, aniseed and wild herbs. Fine, chalk-textured tannins and a mouthful of boysenberry, red and dark cherries. Finishes a little short for a Barolo. A nice wine, but it doesn’t have the nose nor the palate complexity of many others at this price point.
Red young fruity notes on the nose, a bit dirty, really fine grained tannins, great mouth feel, a bit surprised about the dark dried fruit flavours. I really like this one now and dont think that it will develop to something more spectacular with more ageing. Drink now or within three years
Robe rubis limpide; Nez difficile à cerner.
P: Med body; NICE, almost swtish frt fairly quickly met by puckerish astringency which shows GLIMPSES of swtness to come as it slowly transitions into the quite LONG, still very, VERY finely tannic finish. While EVERYTHING at least appears present, this *needs* BOATLOADS of time: I'm guessing into 2025? 14% ABV: Safely my VG+/EXC-, but with *distinct* potential for EXCEPTIONALITY *somewhere* along the line! [This vendor's $44.95 puts it in the top 15% of wine-searcher's current listings.]

Underbrush, redish fruits, nu buck leather. Certain oak imprint on this from the start which also broadens the wine and adds spice but masks the floral notes. Medium acid, tannins are certainly rounded. Approachable now esp with a short decant. Not terribly delineated, but nice. Would have guessed Barbaresco.
Nice and firm, though open enough to enjoy over two hours. It shows good freshness and ripe, nuanced fruit, complicated by spice and mineral impressions. Tannins are accessible, mild to moderate for Barolo, and the balance here is admirable. Over delivers as an entry level Barolo. Ordered off a restaurant list, it really started to come alive after about 90 minutes, and after getting it somewhat chilled.
tar, mint and tobacco leaf make up a fragrant aroma, somewhat approachable now with structure and tannin to age further, strawberry, black tea, rose and mineral make up a delicious palate, bright acid, overall a crystalline and complex experience, a go-to for me, if opening soon make sure to throw some air into it
Subtle nose, light color, and very flavorable fruit. Was surprised how approachable this was a for a young barolo. Don’t think I would age this, but great juice at a nice price point.
Deep and exotic aromas of violets, earth, tobacco, black tea, along with red cherries and currants. Gorgeous balance on the palate, nice and tight tannins but fresh acidity, lovely stuff. Black and red cherries mix so well with roses, eucalyptus, black tea, olive brine. Awesome complexity but this has so much time ahead.
Medium body wine that is a good entry to the Barolo family. The wine is approachable already now as a young wine but will certainly improve and integrate further for many years. Gripy yet refined tannins, balanced high acidity, dried fruit and roses.
Medium red somewhat transparent. Nice red fruited nose. Young palate as expected with significant tannin and acidity, but the nose suggests improvement with age.
Farge: Blek nebbiolokant, noe lilla preg Duft: Hint av fiol og mørkerøde bær Smak: Heftige tanniner. Noe kirsebærpreg. Fruktig. Noe ukomplisert?
Dag2: Mye større kompleksitet i tann2. Mindre fruktighet. Virker mer lovende i dag. Interessant. Må ha i alle fall 3 år til.
{ #GrandiLanghe 2017 } Solid Marcenasco, perhaps a little more fresh than I was expecting, but I'm finding that across many/most of the wines in the room today. Classic flavors, aromas, with very fine tannins that will require at least 3-4 years to better integrate. Good personality, lift and definition today, not something I'm able to consistently find in Marcenasco. 14,0% abv., drink 2020-2036 recommended

Day 2 holding, but no improvement.

Farge: Blek nebbiolokant, noe lilla preg
Duft: Hint av fiol og mørkerøde bær
Smak: Heftige tanniner.
