A light brown colour. Flavours of orange, raisins and nuts, and a slightly saline character. Also a slight sweetness. Good depth and a warming finish. I have rarely drunk Madeira, but this seems very good.

Good nutty flavours but not enough cut and acidity for a Sercial. It's just too sweet and there's too much carmel. It reminds me of maple syrup. The Barbeito 10yr old is a much better bet.

Tasting this wine again for the first time for a while and my view of this wine hasn’t changed fundamentally other than, looking back, my score for this wine was harsh. Complex wine with lots of flavours of sweet and sour, starts sweetish with tangerine and them there’s dried stone fruits and nuts, and a bone dry finish. Enjoyed it more than last time.

Nose of roasted hazelnuts, camphor, orange peel and smoke. Light, medium-sweet palate of prune, toffee apple and dried apricot. Great acidity meaning this is very fresh with a long, bone dry finish of salted caramel, star anise and bitter burned almond. Complex and great value entry-level Madiera.

From a 375ml bottle. On the nose strong rancio, mineral, dried fruit aromas. Rather full bodied, smooth, off-dry (rather sweetish for a sercial), showing subtle dried fruit with some mineral, rancio, orange peel and firm acidity. Overall a balanced and solid madeira.

Henriques & Henriques at Red & White (Chicago, IL): Nice salinity, with some mild sweetness on the palate. Tons of acidity -- enough to pair with seafood. Slightly green on the palate as well. Not too complex, but easy to enjoy.

Tremendous vitality. Searing acidity and fruit in balance. Lovely aromas of hazelnuts, fig, caramel and sea tang. Vibrant citrus and caramel nuttiness is carried thru to a long intense bone dry finish.

Oyster shell on palate, salty, tea chest, nuttiness, brazil nut, roast almond, char. More honey, caramel, butterscotch, burnt citrus peel and sea spray two days later. Delicious moreish palate of salty, slighlty sweet, fresh, and very lip smackingly salty.

Deep amber yellow. Medium nose with notes of honey, dried apricot/pineapple, candied mango, banana and nutmeg. Semi-sweet with high acidity, medium alcohol and lots of tertiary notes coming into plan. Good wine, but all over the place. Needs balance of everything, literally.

Medium amber-golden colour; quite a rich and nutty nose with a distinct touch of sweetness, candied fruit, good depth, hint of salty wood; on the attack and mid-palate this is quite rounded and full too, but then the typical Sercial acidity kicks in with a vengeance and the very long and intense finish is crisp and dry with notes of fresh green olives, lemon zest and wood. A slightly schizofrenic wine, but I must admit to liking it and QPR is excellent.

Nice coppery colour. Tea chest, saltana and raisin, fresh creamed seafood (scallops/prawns) with seaspray, Brazil nuts, sappy wood (dry and damp wood), toffee, touch of gum mastic, Raisins, Arnotts Kingston biscuits and sweet yet musky for M, pleasant bitter edge of tea/tobacco leaf, just fantastic balance: sweet but not cloying, full but not heavy, fresh, swirling intense dark flavours, lifted and swept away by the fresh acidity,

A dry sercial touched by a sweet? Really strange for my palate...could be a defect, a pre-ox note...anyway something wasn't working properly there. If it has been a blind tasting I guessed a sherry with a drop of PX. Complex nose with an out of the limits palate. Having a nice aperitif at Cuenllas Bar, Ferraz St. in Madrid

Golden brown with long legs, sound interesting already???? Nose is very distinctive because there's very little fruit. It reminds me of sherry with a powerful nutty note which dominates everything else. The palate is medium sweet, hints of tangerine, but there's so much acidity it tastes tangier and more savoury than you might think with yeasty notes. Like a lot of sherry it's not immediately appealing but if you persevere (and I've had a few bottles :o ) it rewards you. Superb with cheese or as an aperitif lightly chilled.

Clear, pale brown colour with many gliceric legs. Clean fully developed nose of medium intensity, aromas of coffee, caramel, dried peaches, vanilla and varnish. Sweet in the mouth with high refreshing and balanced acidity, medium- oak tannins, high warm alcohol, full body and pronounced intensity aromas of caramel, coffee, vanilla, nuts and dried plums. Long finish. Very good quality, complex and balanced. Drink now, but has potential for further ageing.

Orange yellow color. The bouquet is a bit reticent, but there are nuts, tea and sherry like flavors. On the palate less caramel and burnt sugar than usual for Madeira. There is good and soft acidity, some oranges, minerals and Cognac flavors. A harmonious Madeira. 89-90.

Golden yellow. The bouquet is a bit sherry like with (wal)nuts, flor and tea. On the palate quite oxidized, but also caramel, sweet spices and licorice as well as raisins, dried figs and nuts. In this Madeira the drying part is dominating a bit over the sweetness. The acidity is a bit edgy and there is a touch of bitterness in the finish.
Browny copper, rich looking. Old wood, some wood glue/touch paint stripper/terps, balsa wood, baked oats, dark honey, Greek-style baklava, slight floral edge, brown sugar/molasses/malt. Appetising. Light yet round. Loads of acidity. Flavours of toffee, classic European baking spices, and even a little old marmalade/oxidised orange peel. Plenty of nuts in the finish. Not as long as it could be for a fortified, but still long.

Good rich nutty aromas. To taste rounded, mellow, off-dry with typical Sercial flavours. However this seemed to lack the zing of acidity that I expected. Good enough but I'll be looking for a different one for Christmas.
