Serious high toned red. Can easily last another 10 years. This is drinking fine now, and will remain a good food pairing due to it's acidity. A good pairing with grilled beef.

Overripe blackberry, raw red meat, Ceylon cinnamon, wet earth. Medium+ tannins, medium+ body, moderate acidity. I feel like this was probably better once upon a time, and it's past its prime.

This bottle is pretty amazing for a CDR. Awesome vintage, undecanted, better than many village wines. Evolving notes, very good nose, great balance and purity of fruit. Even at this late date, started off with dark fruit, dense, plenty of acid. Opened into cassis, melted licorice, bark, raspberry. After an hour, olive, mulberry. Largely syrah. You will never find more at this price point.

Still going strong. Plenty of life left in this. Dark plum, blackberry, a bit of black pepper/floral to fill out the upper register. Hot on the nose. Not surprising given the ABV, but first time I've noticed it. Juuuuuust starting to develop some tertiary notes. Tannins and acid are still nicely balanced with the fruit. Sad that this is the last of these for me. Would really like to see what this is like in 2-3 years.
Fwiw, I did not find it a good pair for some meat ragu I made. Just looking at the 'recommended' pairings with syrah, you'd think (at least I did) that it might do okay, but strong do not recommend for me.

Better than I expected! Beautiful deep garnet color, vibrant dark red and black fruit on the nose. On the palette, still primarily fruit forward with more dark red and black fruit with a bit of oak showing through, and a hint of spiciness (cinnamon, clove?). Tannins are still present, but very well-behaved and smooth, supporting a medium- long finish. Freshness meets maturity! Delicious!

From magnum, drinking great out of the gates and a crowd pleaser among several U.S. domestic wine drinkers, opening some eyes. This is everything you want from an honest CdR made for enjoyment. No hard edges, but not glossed over, perfectly ripe fruit - seems very much Syrah driven. Good on its own, friendly with food. 14.5% abv without a hint of heat. A silly value at $20 USD (magnum!).

Notes on a magnum after following for 3 days open. Pitch dark ruby color, clear and sound with a heavy sediment in the punt. Modest nose of kirsch, licorice, and spices. Medium body with grippy tannins that seem like they’ve softened a good bit over the past year and will continue to improve their aspect to the fruit and acidity. I thought it started off with more of a Grenache character on day 1 and ended day 3 in full Syrah mode. Pure and honest and although the producer makes a boatload, it is still the antithesis to a Constellation brand of wine. The big bottles of this will be drinking fine for another few years, at least. 5+10+15+8= 88

A nice autumnal and wintry wine. Has typical lifted aromas of licorice, chalk, gunflint, leather, earthy blackberries, light peppery notes, and cherries. Its savoury tarry medium bodied solid and a bit foursquare chalk infused black and red fruits palate has decent depth, nice freshness and medium length with nice dry tannin. 14%. Needs 60-90 mins aeration. Keep 2-5 yrs no problem. Good value at 9 Euros. This is a no brainer and a must buy.

These wines are always a great QPR. Our local wine store, Pike & Western, has them on sale for $120 a case in December. Nice, rustic Cotes Du Rhone. Good dark berry fruits and some tar. Spicy drying tannins that provide grip. This is on the dry side which I like in my Rhones. Very long finish. This wine has a long life ahead.

Quick note: Almost opaque at the core and very plum on a broad brim. Nose of black olives, blackberry, iodine, eucalyptus, mineral, and smoke. Palate tracks the nose. Excellent heft on the palate with weighty mouthfeel and length. 14.5% alc. With assorted cheeses and country ham. The cambozolla, ham and mustard played nicely with the wine. Recommended.

Tasted from magnum. Tasted non blind as part of a vertical tasting.
Garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of blueberries, Briar patch and boysenberry. Flavors of boysenberries, plums and cassis. Medium acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold.
Really good example of Cote du Rhone. Probably the best one of the entire vertical tasting.

The nose showed mineral-laced crushed black fruit, with cracked pepper, savory herbs, bacon fat, and spice as hints of violet florals slowly emerged. On the palate, I found silky, pliant textures, offset by a twang of brisk acids, tannin and spice, with saline-minerals giving way to tart black fruits. The finish was long, resonating on minerals, dried fruit and olive tones, with hints of grippy tannin clinging to the senses as a buzz of residual acid made the mouth water. It's an amazing wine for the price point.

Dark color purple to red. Thick nose with bramble, blacktcurrant and herbes de provence in the background. Bit of funk also. Juicy taste full of these fruits, laurel comes slapping in and sticky tannines finish it off. Not too sticky, but just enough to give you that grip. At opening the 14,5% noted on the label turned me off but not noticable at all when drinking. Gotta love southern Rhône

A bit fuller than last year. Has dusty aromas of blackberries, chalk and black raspberries, and black olives. Its medium bodied solid and freshly fruited black and red fruits palate has nice acidity. Ends mediumish with lots of nice tannin. 14.5%. Keep 3-5 years. Good value.

Solid wine from one of the best producers in the Southern Rhone. More Syrah than in previous vintages giving it pepper aromas with some blackberry. Nice everyday drinking wine.
Nice rustic flavors. Some cherry in the background. Typical Cotes du Rhone notes. Plenty of acid to provide grip. Good finish. Great value at $10 a bottle.

Sadly for the wine, i had it with hot soup and cheese, in to the chalet mid-afternoon taking a break from skiing. Sadly as this syrah deserves meat. Not sadly for me. Very nice wine, good day on the hills.

The appearance is clear and deep ruby in colour. Tears are visible.
The nose is clean. The aromas have a medium intensity and show notes of black fruit (blackberry, black plum), animal (subtle leather), and a generic herbaceous character. Swirling reveals a floral note (violet) and aromas of animal (meaty character), oak (ground cinnamon), and pungent spice (black pepper). The wine is developing.
On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium body. The medium level tannins are ripe and have an emery cloth-like nature. The flavours have a medium intensity and show notes of animal (meaty character, leather) and black fruit (blackberry, black plum). The finish has a medium(+) length showing additional notes of pungent spice (black pepper) and black fruit (black cherry).
This is a very good quality wine. The flavours are concentrated and have a good balance with the acidity and the alcohol. Warmth from the alcohol shows on the finish. The subtle oak treatment does not interfere with the fruit expression. The tannins give a little structure to the wine, but fade due to the slightly higher acidity, leading to a refreshing finish. The wine shows complexity with multiple primary characteristics and some secondary notes. The wine is very enjoyable and has a finish with great length.
The wine drinks well now, but has potential for ageing. The fruit intensity is great and the acid and tannin structure should support the wine as tertiary notes further develop.

PnP: Quite pronounced aromas of peppers, blackberries, chalk, olives and red cherries. Its medium bodied solidish and quite powerful, fresh black fruits palate has softened slightly and expanded in the last 6 months. Still has only a medium short finish with high tannin. 14.5%. Needs 2-3 years lay down. Good QPR: 2016 looks to be a good vintage in the Rhone

One that we did purchase at a French wine tasting at Binnys and it doesn't disappoint at all. Note to self: buy more! Nicely in the cheap and cheerful price range though it is far more sophisticated than that: rich deep garnet, full of chewy dark jammy fruit with undercurrents of spice and leather. Did I say I like it?

At tasting. Brief note. Nose and palate show bitter blackberry, pan toasted cracked pepper and dark chocolate. Medium bodied midpalate shows a fair amount of tannic bite and spiky acid with a fair amount of heat on the clipped finish. This has no balance, finesse, or upside.

Deep ruby color makes this a striking wine from the pour. Flavors are mouth filling and rich. Plenty of red fruit character with some dried herb and mushroom notes. It's a little tight due to its youth. I expect this to develop beautifully over the next few years. I highly recommend grabbing a case now. Great value.

If one were in France, one could pick up any number of decent Cotes due Rhone for 3 - 5 euros; sadly not the case over here. Saint Cosme makes some very fine wines and they appear to make some creditable wines at the lower end. Very solid, spicy number with nice grip and terroir.

Tasted the day after the same vintage Gigondas. This wine is in a similar style to that, slightly more forward and less tannic. Delicious, substantive, and it should enjoy a seven to ten year maturation. Likely to pair exquisitely with much fare; I wanted a plate of lamb and beef gyro to enjoy it with. 90-91.

Blackberry, herbs, earth, and black pepper on the nose and palate. Good acidity, light concentration but a feeling of purity, light fine tannins, medium-short finish. Not complex, but pleasant. The garrigue really comes out. I prefer the 2015, but this was still nice.

Gave this 100% Syrah wine 3h air. Medium Purple color. Very shy, with little improvement in glass. Raspberry, dark cherry, green olives. Velvety texture, with bold flavors of dark fruit. Rigid tannins in the mid-palate and through the impressive finish. Too early to drink right now, this could evolve into something more interesting with some cellar time. But my feeling is there are better wines to give that cellar space to.

Day 1: Just drank a glass. Day 2: Stems, floral, walnuts, lighter fruits and minerals. Short to medium finish. Good wine overall. 87 points Day 3: Better with boysenberries, stone, underbrush, walnuts and subtle floral notes. Medium finish. This wine excelled on day 3 and proves my theory again that many younger wines should not be consumed on day 1. 89 points Recommendation: Hold for a few years or 3 plus hour decant.

Pnp through a vinturri. Has a medium ruby in colour. Nose seems to be a bit closed composed of black cherries and black fruits. The palate is somewhat closed as well with black tarry cherries with a tad of black olives. Medium bodied with short-medium finish. I'd air this out for a few hours to see if we can coax more of the flavours. The 2015 seems to be more accessible than this one. EDIT: After 60 minutes or so, finally, this has opened up to the CdR from St. Cosme that we're all familiar with.

86/87. Opened it 3 hrs before. The wine is still closed. Has aromas of red cherries, blackberries, chalk, black olives. Its medium bodied a bit hollow and austere black fruits palate has good acidity. Ends shortish and a bit unknit and quite dry. I agree this needs time in the cellar. Maybe a couple of years. 14.5%. Improves and smoothes out on day three to an 87.

Very good. Didn't need much air to begin enjoying, though opened a bit more with time. Red fruit, raspberry pastille, dark strawberries and florals are matched by layers of iron and black pepper. Solid QPR for $15. Medium bodied, with fine, dusty tannins, balanced acid and shorter finish. Paired well with roasted pork and brown sauce. Great weekday/table wine. I would definitely buy again.. unsure why I waited so long to buy after sampling in summer.

Closed and very tannic at first but after hours, and I mean hours upon hours, it reveals very nice warm berry flavors as well as a pleasant resiny, herbal tinge on the finish.

Almost opaque at the core and very plum on a broad brim.

Good value.

10/27/2018 - CBRwineguy Likes this wine:

Deep ruby color makes this a striking wine from the pour. Flavors are mouth filling and rich. Plenty of red fruit character with some dried herb and mushroom notes. Rigid tannins in the mid-palate and through the impressive finish. Too early to drink right now, this could evolve into something more interesting with some cellar time. But my feeling is there are better wines to give that cellar space to.
