  • Mostly maderized. Did have some sweet maderized fruit if you like that sort of thing. Interesting in a contemplative way. Shame

  • Molto sciropposo e fruttoso, ha solo una piacevole nota brodosa che un po' lo salva dall'insufficienza

  • Aggressive and earthy nose full of barnyard, pine needle and horse leather aromas. Dust and earth mingle with meat and plum fruit flavors, but for some reason this wine just really isn't doing it for me...

  • I liked this. Good clarity and weight. Alcohol (listed as 14%) very well hidden. More reid than dark fruit, lacking a bit of intensity, but the flavors build and develop with air. Less "rustic" than the few other Sicilians I've had.

  • The nose has some volatility, but this mostly blows away after some breathing to make way for masses of soft red fruits. After breathing lots of fruit on the palate (mostly strawberries and its preserve), a hint of minerals and refreshing acidity. Very tasty, not heavy (but it still has 14% alcohol). Made from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Montelleto grapes.

  • Nose of ripe black cherry, plum, vanilla, quite raisiny, reminiscent of a PX based Montilla. Sweet palate impression, very fruity with sweet black cherry, black pepper, raisin, and a gritty volcanic minerality. Delicate body, but ripeness is extreme here and the wine tastes like it has a little RS.

  • The wine shows a warm-climate style of ripeness and the nose is definitely on the black side of the fruit spectrum (think blackberries, plums and black cherries). I don't want to accuse the wine of prunyness as I think it stays on the right side of the over-ripe line, but it definitely skirts along the edge for my tastes anyway. That said, on both nose and palate the wine has an intriguing spiciness, black pepper and minerality that reminds me of Ridge Geyserville in a good year. You can definitely sense that this wine comes from interesting dirt (or ash as the case may be?), and amazingly, despite all the ripeness in the nose the wine finishes completely dry (maybe some find that not so amazing, but I almost always sense a little residual sugar in wines with this high alcohol content (14%). A nice $20 wine that holds up well to hearty cusiine and a pretty darned good alternative to CdP or California Zinfandel at that price point.
