94 Un vino excepcional. Dorado intenso.

It’s a good thing if your Chenin pours in the spectrum of deep golds. Le Haut Lieu Sec is like biting through the thick and creamy flesh of a bright brick red delicious apple.
The smells and tastes you could find in 30 year Sherry. The stuff of botrytis - honeys, middle eastern perfumes, hazelnuts, dates, cheddar. And there are cinnamon stewed peaches and apricot. And it just keeps going until it settles on caramel apple pops - the kind with the green cellophane.
This is Chenin stretching its legs, flexing its ability to be anything and anywhere.

Nice nose with white fruit, good attack with nice freshness and acidity, the middle mouth and longueur is however wuite flat. Overall slightly above average and not as enjoyable as expected. Maybe the vintage is too young and requires more ageing.

Golden hues indicates advances oxidation. Smells rich. Evolved, honeyed, ginger, quince. Initially uplifting vibrant acidity but this fades quickly as if it is collapsing on air contact. This has been my experience in recent vintages. Does the Loire have Premox also??...

Cf. the CellarTracker Article link [lower lft] to get specific info for this vintage, including acclaim.
N: Peaches initially, apples coming on with notes of minerals
P: Med, poss MF, body; RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (threshold R.S., I suspect) met by a brisk, counterbalancing acidity which drives the experience into the LONG, balanced, tangy/swt finish, tonight's Chinese Chx Salad (slt swt) bringing out a bitterness in the wine that, while I'd PREFER not be there, does serve to cleanse the palate. Nonetheless, for me tonight this was better by itself than with the entrée. :( While less of an issue with the Chicken Dumplings, it was, nonetheless, once again somewhat better by itself than with the side. My EXC-, which, if anything, is being charitable. Best to drink now & through '21 less the bitterness exacerbate. // Day 2: ≈ aromatically, with the minerals > prominent; P has held VERY well, the acidity bracing, & Day 1's bitterness being somewhat less. It surprised me with how well it went with the night's revisited Meat Loaf with BBQ Sauce, a pairing for which I would NEVER have opened a fresh bottle of it! Moreover, I'm now thinking it will hold into, probably through, '22. [As of late Jul '20, wine-searcher still shows 2 sources @ $36 & $45.]

N: Closed; Lanolin, poss minerals, with notes of peaches
P: Med, poss MF, body; Very RNDISH entry with very NICE, ALMOST swtish frt (threshold R.S., it would seem) that shows hints of honey as it's beautifully counterbalanced by an acidity which seamlessly morphs into a LONG, balanced, pleasantly tangy/swt finish. With the night's Chinese Chx Salad (sltly swt) it showed some palate-cleansing bitterness which was NOT a problem, particularly as the wine's gradual warming lessened the effect. Drink now & (safely) into '22, the "2029" currently showing here likely being skewed by 1 pro reviewer's 2045. My EXC-/EXC. [As of mid May '20, wine-searcher still shows 2 sources @ $33].
Note: 1st tasted on 11/4/17.

PnP, but required some time to open. Nice mixture between oxidative notes and fruit (hazelnut, dried apricot, lemon and eucalyptus), medium acidity, nice bitter note, medium+ bodied and length. Has everything that I like on the wines from Huet but everything in a small dose or with other words, very good but not great, 90 points now with the hope for a point more in some years.
MNB: Riesling + Chenin and RS calibration (Home (Noe st)): (non-blind - my wine) Medium minus gold color. Medium intensity nose - wet burnt toast (oxidative and waxy), stewed apricot (stone fruit). It has a savory chenin funk - savory oxidized-reductive-peach-wool. A hint of RS - I'd guess 5g (since I know it's 3-5). 13% alcohol, high acid, long finish of mostly non-fruit - wax, burnt wax, singed wool. slight reduction - hint of struck match. Very nice integration and a long finish.

Asian Dinner with Mostly Riesling and Chenin (Irene's House, St. Paul): Pale gold color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. There's a lot of fruit on the nose, peach, apple, floral; the palate carries the fruit through, but this is still rather young and tart, lots of acid, good minerality, good length. Give this a couple years to mellow a touch. 90+pts.

Bright, light yellow color. Very floral nose, acacia, hibiscus and peonies, along with wet stones and flint. Soft, gentle flavors of white stone fruit, limestone and tart apple. Very long finish with a hint of lemon. Only moderate acidity so, I'm guessing this won't be a really long ager. Certainly delicious now.

Huet 2016 Horizontal (San Francisco, CA): Aromatic, flinty, mineral, slight wool, very light peach; palate is medium bodied, nice rich texture but medium-plus to high acidity on the palate; medium length finish (a bit shorter than the Le Mont). Lovely wine, easy to drink, young but enjoyable even now, especially for its freshness now. 91

Huet 2016 horizontal (Ashish's): Medium straw color. Relatively neutral nose of underripe peach, slight apples. Dry - maybe a touch of RS, medium alcohol, high acid. Slightly elevated alcohol - 13%. No evidence of new oak. There's a strong mineral waxiness midpalate. Medium finish.
Were I to taste it blind I'd guess a really good Chablis. It's quite mineral.

Domaine Huet with Sarah Hwang (Armit Wines): Closed nose. Flint, lime, pebbles on palate. A lot of acidity. I can see this developing into something nice a few years from now but not my style of dry white wine.
