Stunning wine. Dark and rich, but smooth. Hints of dark cocoa, thyme, coffee. Immense complexity and a long finish. Started drinking after 30min decant, got better through the meal. Was actually good even right out of the bottle.

My 2nd time trying this 2016 and at this point, it is mind blowing. Give it a full 90 minutes to open up and then it is a fully powerful, fruit forward wine. Absolutely amazing. Deep vibrant fruits but very smooth with no hard edges.

Drink after 3 hours of aeration, without decanting. Deep ruby with purple rim. Nose of cherry, vanilla, leather, and spices. Full-bodied, with elegant, dense, and rounded mouthfeel. Soft tannin and medium-to-low acidity. Finish is fruity and reasonably long. Drinking beautifully now, but also worth to wait. 93.5pt.

I really like this. Opened on July 3. Decanted and kept in wine fridge for an hour before serving. Vacusealed the remaining bottle and put it in a regular fridge till July 12 and drank the last glass then. Last glass was great. I don’t know how, but when the wine hits my tongue I just see the vineyard so clearly in my mind. I have a soft spot for this estate and I enjoyed this bottle very much.

4th Saturday Brown Bagger (R&D’s): Double blind. Deep color. Notes of coffee, blackberry, licorice and blue fruit. Full-bodied with fine tannins. Wonderful black fruit and plum on the palate, with vanilla and chocolate tones in the finish. Lovely. 94-95 pts. (R&D)

After 3 hours in a decanter, and with a juicy steak it was in a good place. Lots of graphite/mint, blue fruits, and spice on the nose. Plenty of tannins on the palate. This wine should be viable for 10 years, at least. The finish is long.

Pulled from the cellar and, reading the reviews, thought it might be a mistake after seeing comments that this wine was too young. I respectfully disagree. Or at least I respectfully say that it was quite nice after an hour decant and served with dinner (grilled halloumi, roasted corn, and pasta with scallion oil). Dark blue fruits, spice, and a backbone leading to a sustained finish. It may well get better with a few more years, but my wife and I got a lot of enjoyment from it tonight.

Lots of good dark fruits and mocha wanting to evolve but a few more years would make this a much better wine. Tried it after 4+ hour decant and I still felt it was too young.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of spices, floral & earthy/dusty notes, herbs, coffee/cocoa, minerals & smoky oak & sweet vanilla notes in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of smooth textured & well balanced, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with cocoa, spices, earthy, herbs, minerals & oak/vanilla. Long lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing (over 90 minutes) but should develop further with additional aging at which time it may rate a higher score (94+).

3 hour decant. Chocolate, mocha and spices on the nose. Silky tannins show on the hard palate. Rich, mid-palate fruit- blackberry and blueberry. 45 second finish.

Modern, fruity and with that dryness caused by the sweetly spicy wood. Black currants, blond tobacco and vanilla on the nose with a dense, immeasurable tannic and full-bodied wall on the palate. Tasty without a doubt but focused on transmitting New World sensations. I understand that fervor and devotion that it has provoked among the critics for years. Thank you Ernesto (The importance of being Ernest, I only put your name on this so now it is easier for the police to arrest you) for your generosity.

Vanilla, spice and alcohol on the nose. Mouth-filling and luxurious on the palate. Structured but very well integrated on the palate. The minerality comes through on the finish.

Tasted at a trade tasting in NYC. As I experienced last year at this tasting, I found this to be one of the most well balanced and age-worthy Cabs I have ever tasted from Peter Michael. Medium to dark translucent garnet color. Very elegant with some blueberry and bramble blackberry fruit, ever so slightly jammy with some noticeable vanilla/oak. Long finish. Needs time, I wouldn’t begin to drink until after its 12th birthday, and preferably after its 20th. Needs plenty of time in a decanter to show its best.

Peter Michael Trade Tasting (Fullerton Hotel - Grand Cru Wine Concierge): Deep ruby. Found the nose rather strange, with a lot of the dank basement, blue cheese aroma, with some cocoa. This musty blue cheese carried on to the flavours on the palate, with lots of tannins and heat. Does also have some black cassis fruits and fern, but still overwhelmed by the musty flavours. Strangely, it wasn’t corked... hmm

Tasted at the Skurnik Grand Portfolio Tasting in NYC. Wine poured by Nicolas Morlet, winemaker. The 2016 vintage blend is 62% cabernet sauvignon, 16% cabernet franc, 15% merlot and 7% petite verdot. I'm not sure if it is just the nature of the 2016 vintage in Napa or a change in style but this wine is really quite elegant yet powerful, not over the top in any way. It reminds me of the way great Cali Cabs from the 1970's and 1980's were made. It actually reminded me of Dominus from the better vintages of the 1980's. It was smokey and earthy with great depth and complexity, showing lavender, spice, graphite, tar and black fruit. Not too tannic but certainly will improve with age. This was poured from a decanter but I am not sure how long it had gotten air. It seemed like it had gotten a pretty good amount. Excellent!
