This was very nice, but it was totally outclassed by a pristine bottle from the 1976 vintage. The 2016 seemed simple compared to the complexity and layered nuances of the 1976

By far the best Cabernet Sauvignon of the night. Almost perfect right out of the bottle. Only imagine what it will be in the next few years in the cellar.

Very young, primary, and signature Napa cabernet. That said, this is an extremely well made Bordeaux blend that should evolve into something great. I would like to taste this with 10 more years of evolution on it. Decanted for 2 hours. However, oxidation can only speed up aging so much. Nothing replaces resting in the cellar until it is ready.

Enjoyed this 1st bottle from a full case, at the beach, with friends, paired with grilled filet mignon and crab legs. Delicious, voluptuous, full bodied Napa Cab, polished and correct, with firm tannins and medium acidity. Drink through 2035+ or so. Tanzer said drink through 2055...

Nose: fig, olive, leather Med-hi acid, fine grained tannins, well integrated. Blackberry, sour cherry. Full bodied, medium long finish, young, good structure and complexity. I like this wine very much at this price point. The bottles I still have I’ll hold. Definitely not an 84 ;).

After the epic 175+ comment TN by CSimm and several other recent TNs, I had to try this for myself. This will be a 5 day experiment. I will be sampling 150ml per day. The wine will be left at cellar temps in the bottle, and will be transferred to a smaller bottle after Day 3 to give it a chance of holding up for 5 days.
Day 1 - PnP - small sip as I opened the bottle and poured out the initial 150ml for decanting at cellar temps. somewhat mild nose, a bit disjointed on the palate. The alcohol is somewhat noticeable, and fruit somewhat muted, with blackberry coming across most prominently. After 4 hours in the decanter, the wine has not opened up much at all, and has developed a sharp mildly astringent and somewhat green finish. No fruit on the nose at all. Score at the end of Day 1 is 80, and I feel that's being a bit generous. I woudl not enjoy this if served at someone's house and would find it difficult to finish a glass. Hoepfully things take a turn for the better on Day 2.
Day 2 - next 150ml pour decanted for 2 hrs, remainder left in bottle w/ cork for next few days. Still has a hint of astringency but it has subsided a lot from yesterday. The wine has come together but is somewhat flat on mid-palate. Fruit has become more present on the nose, with blackberry most noticeable. The acidity has subsided and also integrated, and the tannins are more fine yet still youthful. Huge improvement over Day 1, without question, and now its a wine I would drink if offered. But still not hitting expectations for wine at this price point. Will see if Day 3 holds more surprises. Score for Day 2 is an 88.
Day 3 - Wife found my bottle in the wine fridge and decided to pour it for dinner. so this experiment will end today. The wine has come together now nicely, its a far cry from what it was on Day 1. Still improved over Day 2, this tastes like a wine I'd gladly pay $50 for, but not much more. So still not a QPR champ here, but its not horrible. I don't find anything particularly interesting about the wine at this stage, but wouldn't turn down a glass if offered. I'll hold onto my 2 remaining bottles for 10 yrs and see how it develops. I dion't think it will be worth $100 but it should still be enjoyable (albeit not memorable) later on.
So with all the recent chatter this wine has generated, I felt that I just had to pull a cork. Plus it’s been bugging me that it has been languishing on a shelf that typically holds Pinot noir. This is a decent representation of Rutherford, in my mind, but nothing that excited me. I have had some older renditions from the 80s and 90s that were more memorable. I slow oxd for two hours then splash decant. Did improve slightly with more air, but remained medium in weight, red and blue fruits, a bit of dust, cocoa, and minerals. I would have guessed it as a Rutherford cab, but not what I would have hoped from a 2016. Nicely balanced, but could have used a bit more oomph and acidity.
A straight skinny minny, with a diluted and "way-overly-classical" fringe profile that has the body of a Gamay, the brains of a Pinot Gri, and the stamina of a Lambrusco. Cedar, strawberry, red cherry, and still water. This BV GdL is the Danny DeVito twin to just about every other 2016 Cabernet out of Napa.
...score higher if you enjoy COVID press conferences and faxing TPS reports.
Decanted and drank over 2hours, mostly purple w some red fruits, good concentration of fruit, balanced oak and acidity. I would call this a nice balanced style w napa tendencies, but slightly pulled back from a full throttle napa style wine.

surprised by some of the lower scores here. I thought this wine was incredible and look forward to pairing this up with the Mondavi To Kalon reserve. Purple in glass and dark ruby on rim super ripe balanced cabernet fruit currants, blackberry, with cassis and violet great concentration, with elegance and balance and great mouthcoating spicy finish. You can definitely taste the Rutherford appellation here. 94-95
Bought one to try, cost $114. Very disappointing. I remember well the old BVs from '68, '69, '70, '76, several other vintages, among the top wines of that time. It had a characteristic vanilla nose and full-bodied but smooth palate. This had slight aroma of red and black fruits, was a bit austere with its fruit, and a short aftertaste. It's now in French oak, giving it a much different character than the old, great BVs. It's not that it's too young, just that it doesn't have enough to justify the price. Would not buy more. Ric

Open-nosed right off the bat, with shiny cranberry, crabapple, and chocolate. The nose is where I get the most alcohol. In the mouth, it's surprisingly light and deft, showing graham crackers and soft black fruits. Pronounced but easygoing tannins weigh in on the back end. Awesome overall intensity. The only minor weakness, I think, is the finish. It's got a nice bittersweet chocolate-chip note, but it stops shorter than I'd expect. The whole thing is like a s'mores slathered in blackberry preserves, and that ain't all bad. I'd expect more complexity in, say, 2025, but it's pretty yummy now, and it's a good buy as Napa Cabs go.

This ripe and layered Cabernet tastes kind of linear in the early going, but it needs a few years to add more weight. Dark red in color; medium in body; nose of black cherry, menthol, and bay leaf. Flavors of tart blueberry, raspberry, cocoa powder, and cassis, with a condensed and somewhat tart finish. Blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot. 14.9% alcohol. I don't understand the critical acclaim here (aside from the history, vintage, and availability), but maybe it will improve with time. 91-92 for now, with upside in 2022 or later.
2016 considered great vintage & first vintage of new winemaker, Trevor. Depth of fruit, elegance, & acid. 80th vintage. 1990 first vines planted. Style has changed, but retains its dna. BV Ranch 2 & 1. 2 is 130 acres & bigger piece. Replanted early 1999’s. BV owns Hewitt. Have lots of journals on each vineyard. Fog use to blanket in 2960s-2970’s, but no more.
Black inky aromas, dark, blackberries, wet soil. Restrained bright, tight, dark berry fruits, nice complexity, a bit less depth, with nice flavors with oak spice. Long finish.

Not very impressed, but in fairness, drank this wine probably 20 years earlier than I should have! Out of the bottle, extremely tight--you get the Napa jamminess, but as Naomi said, it's more "fruity"--lacks the depth / nuance beyond fruit, both on the nose and in the mouth. I will say that after being open for a couple hours, a bit more depth came out, but still not much beyond overwhelming fruitiness. As another reviewer said, not worth the $ (even though I got it through Last Bottle), esp. for this vintage. Drank with Naomi our second night in Miami!

The 2016 Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is bursting with a bouquet of cassis, blueberry, blackberry, violet and wild sage, exhibiting the extraordinary concentration, depth and elegance of this superior vintage. Full-bodied and rich on the palate with lingering flavors of dark blackberry, root spice, chocolate and molasses supported by perfectly balanced acidity which adds length, juiciness and freshness to an everlasting finish. Plush “Rutherford Dust” tannins support the ever-expansive palate, while seamlessly integrating with the full-bodied texture, crafting a wine that shows grace, ease and approachability now, but with underlying power and structure that will keep this wine alive for decades to come. Well integrated notes of vanilla and toasted oak spices - from aging in new French oak barrels - heighten the aromas and dance on the lengthy finish. To enjoy this wine at its full potential, we recommend at least five years of bottle aging; however, if you can’t wait, decant before serving.

Another Year, Another Napa (aka Winter in Wineland IV); 1/5/2020-1/11/2020 (Napa/Sonoma California): This is poured into one of those super glasses that can fit a whole glass of wine which makes total sense because again we're talking about a baby and the more air it gets, the better it gets. When it was first poured I was a bit skeptical. With some time it's starting to round some edges, develop a touch more, be a bit less of a fruit intense style. Oddly, the '18 barrel sample was in a better place which intrigues me about that year, but this was coming along alright.
Forward, full-bodied, round and almost lush in its approach, you find loads of dark chocolate coated black and deep fruits, smoke, thyme and vanilla here. The wine offers potential early drinking charm. Yet it possesses enough, ripe, soft-grained tannins that it should evolve for at least 2 decades with little trouble.
