Private dinner (De Scheepskameel, Amsterdam): Tight, fresh, elegant, a little more lean than I had expected, probably because it was served way too cold. After some air started to improve but I would give it more time

Weiteres, enormes Potential! Korrektur von 93 auf 95.

Nose of several citrus fruits, including yuzu, and some peach. A hint of honey and floral notes. Body is relatively light, but orange peel remians in the mouth for quite a while. Very nice.

Pale lemon in glass. Lime, white nectarine and smoke. Medium intensity on the nose. Ripe yet manages to be delicate. Medium acidity and medium plus finish. Quite impressive.

I wouldn’t go into too much detail here, suffice to say that the wine is very aromatically delicate with subtle nuances of petrol and lots of mineral components a la oyster shells. Very long, classy, grand cru level.

Pale straw. I love the nose. Very fresh. Mineral, lime, peach, petroleum & blossom. Nice intensity and lift while maintaining vibrancy. Dry to off dry. Mid weight. Slightly hollow. Lime and peach. Talc texture. Fresh acidity but not to tight. Lovely wine that will build. Nose is very strong while the palate missed some depth to take it to the next level.

Christmas family dinner, served with salad, warm feta and curry plantains.
Short decant. Quite complex and concentrated GG with reduced fruity notes, such as white flowers and mirabelle (at its current development stage). Grapes at Gräfenberg were harvested as late as November. Together with the outstanding terroir (slate, loess -> high minerality) this adds to its complex palate. In addition, this GG is perfectly balanced (5.3 g/L RS vs 8.3 g/L acidity) and elegant.
Huge further potential in the next 20+ years: 93++p 3 bottles left.
Lys gul, svakt grønnskjær. Badeball, gule epler, svakt søtlig grillet ananas preg. Medium syre, tørrende, litt mineralsk bitterhet som drar mot grapefrukt. Ganske balansert men likevel litt skuffende

Another strong 2016 - Weil's Grafenberg is not quite as "cristal clear" as I remember most Weil's to be in house style visually. It offers soft peaches, some good melt and minerality and is a long term proposition. Possibly lacking a wow factor one could associate with this wine.

FC1910 Visits Madrid; 4/24/2019-4/28/2019 (Madrid): A metallic note with sweetness and a noble delicacy. Some hydrocarbons too. Good texture, density accompanied by a fine, grainy acidity. I like its length and its marked aftertaste. Depth, we leave for another time.
Una nota metálica con dulzor y cierta delicadeza. Algo de hidrocarburos también. Buena textura, densidad acompañada de una fina, granulada acidez. Me gusta su longitud y su marcado retrogusto. La profundidad la dejamos para otro momento.

Lunch at Jade Court (Chicago, IL): #70-17, 13% abv. Magnum 74/899. Is it just me or am I really starting to come around to dry riesling? I think this was a great example of the style, with some really fresh fruit on the nose that clearly shows this wine's youth. It has yet to settle down -- there's lots of material here -- but the balance is excellent. This wine doesn't suffer from one of the problems of GGs -- too much acid without much else -- it's much more balanced, perhaps thanks to the relatively riper grapes in the Rheingau.

Sweet lemon, stony peach, soft pear, steely minerality. High racy acidity, medium body, medium+ finish. Dry yet fruity on the palate. Already nice drinking now; this is nonetheless primary today, has got a ways to develop and should be quite superlative.

Tasted next to the 2008. Citrus and stone fruit, minerality, herbal and floral notes on the nose. Quite juicy, but also very mineral and fresh on the palate. No rough edges, very vibrant and lifted. Already quite complex and impeccably well balanced. Very fine length. 94-95+

Attractive nose with mixture of white peaches and citruses. In the mouth depth and precision where the combination of fruits and flinty action is with depth and precision, yet powerful , but more elegant than 2015. Great wine this one is.

Riesling Riot 2018: Floral, orange, slate and pear. More of each element compared to the Turmberg but I also think it has better structure and texture. A tart line of acidity gives it excellent freshness. Very youthful but very good.

Robert Weil Masterclass (Prince Sydney, 40 Hansard Street): Finger lime, lime peel, slight peach, crushed slate with floral top notes. Dense, rich and powerful married to potent acidity. More orchard fruit than citrus though on the palate and very, very long. Having said that it is, for me, a little closed and simple at the moment - shows promise.
A very restrained showing of our sample today, herbal, hidden yellow stonefruit, oranges, zesty, but all like driving a car with handbrake on, indicating great delicious depth, long+ finish, give this one a lot of time, (****- ?)
