Much too young still. Brambles, earth, smoked meats, and ferrous. Big and chewy in the mouth, some vanilla/oaky notes in there as well. Beast of a wine, but great with grilled meats.

Opened this an hour before tasting and then drank over 3 hours and it just kept getting better. Deep purple color in the glass. Jammy blackberry, bramble, coffee, flint and pepper on the palate. Robust and full bodied with a lingering spicy finish.

A very beautiful deep purple color in the glass. A "rich" nose that shows plum and forest floor aromas. Tart dark fruit on the tip of the tongue, Then some savoriness and some earthiness. An interesting mouthfeel--almos thin. Not terribly full-bodied, but a tad more than mid.

This is my first from this producer and it is impressive. Nose- and mouth-filling flavors, but nothing in excess. The nose and entry are blueberries, but then they recede to be replaced by cedar with touches of tobacco and pepper, then sandalwood on the finish. Nice streak of acidity. A truly lovely syrah. (Second night was a little simpler, mostly blueberry pie, but still very enjoyable if not quite as complex.)

3rd bottle. Deep dark fruits with lots of black pepper. This nose is beautiful and deep. Tastes is just as good with dark fruits, blackberry, tobacco, cedar, dark fruits and medium long finish. Decanted and drank over 2 hours. Flavors and nose continued to develop. More sediment then the previous bottles.

Deep dark blackberry, boysenberry and plum. Secondary notes of pepper, cedar and tobacco. Nice perfumey nose. Medium bodied and nicely layered. This is a more complex style and while there is plenty of fruit, this is not a “fruit bomb” style Syrah. This is definitely worth holding however. The complexity is far more evident with age.

Dark purple/black. Blackberry, boisenberry & plum. Cool climate syrah with a nice dry finish and devoid of overipe fruit. Nice flavor layers. Finish is medium. Not one dimensional but also not overly complex either. A very good, well made wine but isn't bordering on greatness.

Second bottle I've had, deep dark fruits with lots of black pepper. This nose is beautiful and deep. Tastes is just as good with tobacco, cedar, dark fruits and medium long finish. Opened the bottle, poured a glass and let the wine open up in the bottle for 2 hours. Flavors and nose continued to develop. Great bottle!

See my July 4, 2020 note. Comments remain the same. This time, instead of barbecue, we drank this with grilled tenderloin, brussel sprouts and brown and wild rice. The pairing allowed the Syrah to shine. The elegance of the Syrah was a very nice accompaniment.

Young but impeccably balanced, this shows deep black fruit, some olive and a warm underbrush. The tannins are currently buried, and it’s easy to drink on its own or with food. Feels like this might be one that ages on its balances for a very long time.

The two that make this wine are real treasures as well. Great future ahead

On opening was a bit dull but after 20 minutes in the glass it woke up. Dark fruit, tobacco, coffee notes, touch of dark chocolate. This wine only got better and better as time passed. Developed more of a cedar and tobacco taste with dark berries. Nose continued to evolve. Love this wine, the people who make it are quite interesting as well. Somm TV has a show called vertical on their winery. Very honest wine from Napa that is affordable and I think will last and develop for 10+ years

A very nice alternative to the big, fruit forward, in your face Shiraz that is more readily available. This wine has balance and is elegant without sacrificing the distinctive characteristics of the varietal. Still full of black and blue fruit. Still has that hint of pepper on the finish. But this has an extra layer of chocolate and earthiness that add complexity. This was delicious but almost too subtle for the 4th of July cookout of grilled hamburgers and bratwurst. We met Carole Meredith and Steve Lagier when we visited their Mt. Veeder winery in 2011. My appreciation for their wines has grown since then, a tribute to the age worthiness of their wines.

Red cherry, blueberry, rosemary, herbs, smoke. This is a bold wine, but it so very well balanced that not one component stands above the rest. This speaks to impeccable wine making, as Napa is not typically an ideal place for good Syrah. Impressive and delicious.

blueberry cobbler in a glass - only not nearly as gross as that sounds. super classy, dark, brooding, elegant, tannins showed up in force on day 2. this will go forever and will likely never not impress.

Typical of Lagier-Meredith syrahs, it’s loaded with blackberries and huckleberries, with white pepper and grilled rosemary and herbs. Bright acidity balances the sweet fruit. The tannic structure is already nicely integrated and it’s drinking beautifully at this early stage.
