Pale honey yellow, lustrous. Lanolin, crushed herbs, honeysuckle, lemon zest. Strong flavours, leads with spice and honey, some nice crushed herb notes, citrus peel, ripe melons, honeysuckle. Ripe fleshy finish, more rounded mouthfeel, drinks nicely now but a few years extra will help.

Brought by Duncan Ash when Duncan and Kate came for dinner - and drank with them. Fantastic wine - dry but rich peachy taste; long finish; not oxidised at all.

Toasted nuts and maybe fresh lime (aware not an aroma often associated with the appellation). It was suggested to me fresh rain, which is very accurate. Also quite intense hay. On the palette, cooked yellow fruit and baking spices, with pithy bitterness too. The spiciness increased with time in the glass to great effect.

Opened an hour in advance. Medium gold in the glass. This comes across as a little more restrained stylistically than some of its counterparts. There’s toasted hazelnuts, petrichor, dried hay, blanched almonds, white peach, and orange oil. Concentration, board, and long. Excellent.

A bit oaky, but still has some interesting combination of lemon and minerality and some other fruits I cannot recall. This one was poured right after a grower champagne, and it was not as successful as the champagne.

Mid yellow/silver. Aroma of lemon and lime, whiff of lychee and ginger. Honey, lavender and nuts flavour, with balancing fruit - lemon and peach. Complex and delicious, but alcohol a little hot at this stage in its evolution. Might need a few more years to fully integrate.

Light gold and clear at the rim. Intense garrigue herbs on nose, cantalope, honeydew, citrus, white flower, hint of tropical fruit, chalky oyster shell. Full bodied, medium acidity, savory herbal finish. Drink now.

Meyer lemon, straw and tropical fruits dominate this white rhone wine. Nice tropical fruits and pear on the finish. Beautifully balanced and unusually long finish.

Pale straw color, with Meyer lemon, pear, bread dough and stone on the nose. Rather shy on the attack, but mid palate explodes with citus and tropical fruits. Finishes long with a slight aspirin note.

Plum Market Spring Wine Extravaganza (Chicago, IL): Definitely a very clean wine, but a little headier and waxier than I generally like my whites. For the region, a little more acidity than i would expect.

Winorama: A winter in Wineland III; 1/4/2019-1/13/2019 (Portland/Willamette, Eureka, Napa): Somehow I never realized this producer made a white and I certainly didn't know that it is similar to the Rayas blend with a lot of Clairette (40%) in addition to grenache blanc and a few other grapes. Probably not fair to have my comparison point be Rayas because this is not that. Much lower acidity. Much more like a standard white rhone where it's a bit thick and viscous. Lots of white flowers and white fleshy fruit. There's this weird sortof kick in the mid-palate which keeps it from feeling too overdone.

Tasted over two days. Markedly worse on day two (more mellow finish, restrained nose). On day one it had aromas of apricot, pear, cinnamon, followed by an astonishing structure of high acid (two peaks), warm spice and a saline finish which lasted a very long time.

A pale, golden colour. Orange blossom, fried plantain, salty mineral, crown flower, freesias and passion fruit. The acidity and mineral are exceptional and a hallmark to this classic terroir. The finish glides for awhile, and the body is almost lavish, then very femininely refrained. Although the blanc version from an astounding vintage is drinking wonderfully today, the cellar will be assiduous to this stunning wonder. Drink now - 2035.

3 ounce pour with lunch over the course of an hour
bright lemon color with a hint of green, melon on the nose at first, dry gravel, on the palate quite generous and bordering on feisty in the mid-palate, orchard fruits, firm lime acid finish of moderate length, with time an orange citrus tone came into play and the mid-palate developed even more depth, I have shockingly little experience with the white wines of the Rhone- so it is hard to rate this or predict the future, but all in all I enjoyed this very much as a luncheon wine and think it has the structure to age for the mid-term even though it is showing quite nicely now, ***+, now to 2025 and perhaps longer. I am told these white Rhones often have a hard dumb phase- but again I have little experience here, so grain of salt with my forecast.

Dinner at Sun Wah (Chicago, IL): Never been a fan of Rhone whites, but I thought this was alright. It's certainly a heady wine, with tons of ripeness. Waxy, but not overly so, and there's enough extract on the back end to help balance it out. While this is reasonably restrained, it's still a little hot for my palate.

Green apple. Nectarine. Good acidity. However, very short on the finish and while I appreciate its youth some other similarly-priced CdP Blancs seem to be drinking better and are showing more complexity. Reserved score for now.

First time among the round stones of CdP and Gigondas (Chateauneuf-du-pape, Gigondas): Actually gets a 92+
Very light color.
Ripe fruit with characteristic CdP snap. Golden raisin. Could almost mistake for a chardonnay.
Pineapple, vanillic snap, touch of honey. Full body, no elbows.
