58th TWIGS meeting (I & H's Place): Screwcap. 14% alc. Served blind. Dark garnet. Smells fruit sweet. Dark berry fruits, charcuterie and a hint of chocolate. The palate is fruit driven. It’s full of sweet, dark fruit with fleshy tannins. It’s dense, has lovely mouth texture and it’s seamless. So easy to drink.

Pinotpalooza (Carriageworks, Redfern): Again, red currant, perhaps too smoky at this end of the hall. With time (and me moving away from this part of the room) it shows some jubey black berry with more of the same on the palate. Nice.

Enjoyed with prime ribeye at Redcliff Cafe Te Anau, NZ. Powerful Pinot Noir yet graceful. Strong fruit on the nose (cherry, plum) and tingly hints of the tannins that await. Fruit forward presentation but backed by complexity (which includes cinnamon!) but the tannins are the star. Shockingly well integrated and elegant for a 2016 vintage. Among the finest pinot noir I’ve tasted. 94++

Pretty feminine wine. Definitely cool climate. Could have been mistaken for the real deal, but it is also pricey..

Ripe, very fine. Some Burgundian richness. Lovely.

The epitome of a great Pinot noir.
