Decanted 90 minutes. Medium ruby. Quite tart, medium bodied. garrigue, spicy, cinnamon, dark fruit- dark plums, black berry. Young and Hot -alcohol 15? (Upon looking 15.5). Not my style and too alcoholic for me, but okay with Langer’s Pastrami and sick rye bread from the Underground Bakery.

A recent 2016 Janasse Chaupin showed some raisiny fruit which I did not expect from the vintage so I decided to pull a few 16’s from the cellar to check in. Opens with notes of red berry fruit, licorice, pepper and lavender. Full-bodied, with flavors of red fruit and peppery spice, and just a hint of red plum as well. By the two hour mark the fruit has taken on a bit darker profile, but still nothing hinting at raisin or prune.

90m air. Deep ruby color. Offers cherry, olive, white pepper, fresh asphalt and cured meat. Mature and graceful, rich, with a satin mouthfeel and polished tannins. Red and black fruit on entry, pepper and olive notes through the finish. Turned out to be a fairly high-class ground beef taco pairing.

This is OK, consistent with last note, not the greatest QPR in the world, harsh on opening but after about 45 minutes calmed down. If this wasn't entitled to put CdP on its label, I think it would be about 20% less. Not that its bad - it's drinkable, a little earthy, went very nicely with pizza.

I thought this wine was underrated. Not super special, but a really nice red that drank well right from the first sip. Medium finish, not too heavy, easy to drink.

This is OK but apparently seemed more interesting 10 months ago, judging from my prior note. Tasted pretty generic, kinda sweet. Drinkable, for sure, but not getting a lot of CdP flavors. this time around. Based on this bottle I would not buy this again.

I was generous with the 82. A cheap alternative to a good chateuneuf-du-pap. Rather spend a bit more for a medium quality like Les Allier (88) or an excellent (93) 2016 Famille Perrin)

Definitely ready to drink. Might get better over the next few years, hard for me to tell, but not a lot of complexity. But nice Grenache flavors, balanced, not too tannic or acidic, but enough. Definitely some barnyard.

Okhuysen tasting October 2019: the perfect vintage, concentration and fruit, even in the bouquet, juicy, although a bit severe (its youth), ripe tannins.

90m air, at with a cheese plate on a really hot day as a way of not turning on any heat sources. Deep Ruby color. Very fragrant, with cherries, plums, toast, pepper and a hint of dried herbs. Lovely counterpoint to the salty & creamy cheeses. Mixed berries on the palate, spicy, earthy, rich & oplulent. Muscular tannins dominate the finish, which may refine with some short-term cellar time, but otherwise, perfectly drinkable already.

65/20/10/5 Grenache/Syrah/Mourvedre/Cinsault. Aged in mostly concrete or large oak barrels. Medium plus nose shows red fruits, fresh herbs, tobacco, dried cherry. Palate is nice, spicy, garrique, medium bodied and structure.

Faint aroma suggests plums and herbs. Rich berry flavors with spice, roasted meat and vanilla. Not overly complex. Moderate acidity and moderate-high tannin. OK, nothing special.

Blind Monday #1 (Oinoscent): Med purple bright color. The nose shows density, clean, ripe red fruit, cherry, smoke, oak, a bit of alcohol heat, earthy and spicy, sweet spices, coffee notes, chocolate notes. In the palate, you get a bit of alcohol heat again, fruit liquer, riep blue/black fruit, med tannins, med body and med to long finish.

Still young and initially quite tight, but opened up nicely after an hour or so. Dried strawberries, violets, and thyme on the nose. Layered flavors and a round smoothness once it opened up.

Macerated fruit, not showing much beyond the fruit on the nose. Palate is surprisingly taut, lots of chalky minerals, raspberries, garrigue. Violets on the finish.

Fresh herbs, flowers, smoke and kirsch create the nose. On the palate, the wine is fresh refined, sweet, juicy and softly textured. The sweetness in the cherries sticks with you for quite a while in the finish. This is already quite charming to taste. The wine was made from a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre and 5% Cinsault.

Dark red and cloudy. Minimal musty aromas. Dark berry and cherry flavors with some olive and leather on a juicy finish.

Black raspberry, kirsch, baking spice, hint of garrigue, chalk. Solid but overripe. Not enough garrigue, too much kirsch
