Decanted 90 minutes. Medium ruby. Quite tart, medium bodied. garrigue, spicy, cinnamon, dark fruit- dark plums, black berry. Young and Hot -alcohol 15? (Upon looking 15.5). Not my style and too alcoholic for me, but okay with Langer’s Pastrami and sick rye bread from the Underground Bakery.

A recent 2016 Janasse Chaupin showed some raisiny fruit which I did not expect from the vintage so I decided to pull a few 16’s from the cellar to check in. Opens with notes of red berry fruit, licorice, pepper and lavender. Full-bodied, with flavors of red fruit and peppery spice, and just a hint of red plum as well. By the two hour mark the fruit has taken on a bit darker profile, but still nothing hinting at raisin or prune.

90m air. Deep ruby color. Offers cherry, olive, white pepper, fresh asphalt and cured meat. Mature and graceful, rich, with a satin mouthfeel and polished tannins. Red and black fruit on entry, pepper and olive notes through the finish. Turned out to be a fairly high-class ground beef taco pairing.

Dark red and cloudy. Minimal musty aromas. Dark berry and cherry flavors with some olive and leather on a juicy finish.

Black raspberry, kirsch, baking spice, hint of garrigue, chalk. Solid but overripe. Not enough garrigue, too much kirsch
