  • By the bottle at La Villaret in Paris. Nose is quite shy at this point, even after being open in the bottle for almost two hours, I’m really not getting mush of anything here. Maybe some ripe plums and a little alcohol. Palate is much more expressive. Lifted and fresh with ripe red cherries, cola, hints of violets, white pepper, slightly minty. More on the fruity side of Syrah than the savory side but not flabby or rich at all. Drinking well now and an excellent value at a restaurant in this case (~$100 at current exchange rates) but maybe not life-changing. Paired quite well with the meat-heavy cuisine though.

  • 60 minute decant. Nose of black plum and black olive. Deep black cherry palate shows depth with iron, chicory, and violets followed by tart strawberry. Elongated, smooth, and supple tannins with acidity and purple fruit, on the finish, adding minerals and rocks. Air gave it more complexity so give it a longer decant if drinking now.

  • Dinner at Highland. Tasted blind. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of deep red plums, black cherries, dark red cherries, dusty stony earth minerals. Develping.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of deep red plums, black cherries, dark red cherries, sweet dark tar, stony earth, peppery spices. Big long finish.
Very good quality. Not getting any of the floral Viognier notes here, perhaps already receded with age. Probably needs more age to develop some meatiness.

  • First surprise: the wine is not so powerful like I would expect from C-R, but it's full of elegance, soft, velvety texture, ripe tannins, delicate spice. Second surprise: the taste goes like this - ripe black fruits, red fruits, spice and at the end something very delicate( I have no idea what the hell is it...oak, vanilla? ). Anyway it's classy wine with classy aromas. Flowers ( beautiful!), red cherry, raspberry (another surprise), blue berry. I'm curious who might not like such wine.
It's perfect juice both for beginners and connoisseurs.
Jasmin la Giroflarie comes from vines planted in 8 parcels on both the Cote Blonde and Cote Brune, and is made from a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier.
The domain has just 5.3 hectares of vineyards, but in Cote Rotie it is not unusual to have so small property ( in Burgundy this kind of vineyard would be huge!)
By the way vineyard is spread out over 8 distinctly, different parcels in the southern part of the appellations.

  • Primary fruit flavours now mellowing. More savoury than previous bottles when it felt dangerously close to jam like. Tannins pretty crunchy and the acidity now coming through to balance all those dark fruit flavours. More than a hint of smoke on the finish.
Much more to my taste looks to be offering some lovely drinking in the coming years.

  • Echoing William's note, because of course. Still a bit primary and one dimensional, although very attractive fruit and balance. Will be interested to see if this develops more savory elements with time.

  • Jasmin's 2015 Côte-Rôtie La Giroflarie unwinds in the glass to reveal attractive aromas of wild berries, violets, spices and a very discreet background framing of oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and elegant, it's still a touch tightly wound, but it's beautifully balanced and should really begin to pop with another 3+ years on the clock.

  • [Restaurant purchase] PnP, young but already approachable. Black fruit, licorice, floral notes and some emerging bacon fat. Would love to see this with 5-7 years more age

  • A solid dark fruit profile, with some meatiness and black pepper. Big but elegant. Tannins are slightly aggressive, so serve this with some fatty steak if you like the fresher fruit flavors. Otherwise, you can wait and allow the tertiary flavors to come through.

  • Deep purple

Nose: Smoked coffee, bay leaf, crushed black pepper, cherry pit. Dense and layered

Mouth: A deep, elegantly rendered pool of huckleberry, blackberry and bitter cherry come in bolted onto a rowdy spine of acid and cast iron as notes of espresso, bay leaf, and crushed pepper mingle around. Ends on a bitter cherry note again, adding a tinge of fruit to all the torque.

Overall: Considerably more open knit than expected, this shows fresh fruit up front and a deeply structured back end that feels like it would go better with a bit more of blackened fruit core. A bit of a paradox in terms of ageability as the fruit is just about ready and the tannins drawn back while the structure wants a few more decades to settle. Pick your poison I guess about when to pop. Drink now - 2038.

  • No detailed notes, but a pleasant companion to a grilled steak based meal and in good balance. Young, but does not seem to have the depth to last a long time. Heading towards being in a drinking window.

  • Seems not to last after being Coravined. Lesson maybe not to keep too long after doing that.

91-92 pts

  • Lovely bottle in surprisingly good balance given its relative youth. Double decanted. Great fruit, some pepper notes, red-purple. Tannins present but they do not get in the way of the fruit.

  • This is so fresh and vibrant now, hard to resist. Red cherries, creme de cassis, cinnamon, milk chocolate. Absolutely lovely and should be fun to check in on in a few years to see what other characteristics it picks up, but definitely worth trying now in its youth.

  • A pretty wine with a nice future ahead of it, this drinks a little young now but still had plenty of graphite, cassis, raspberry, and garrigue with a familiar Rhone feel. I'm going to leave the remaining bottles that I have for another few years as this is only going to improve.

  • Decanted 2 hours. Fantastic nose of dusty earth and rich dark fruit. Great structure and tannins on the palate. Finish evolves.
In short, this is a badass bottle of wine. I love it.

  • Picota cubierto.

  • Dark fruits and crushed stone on the nose. Lovely red fruited palate with some pepper and some herb notes. Prevalent tannins. Good acidity. Very nicely balanced wine, a lot going on. On the soft and elegant side of Cote Rosie, not a bruiser, but should age into a nice place in a few years.
