A Coravin glas out of a magnum Slightly funky nose with dark berries, lots of olive tapenade and a whiff of white pepper. The palate brings some milk chocolate and good freshness. Not overly complex but quite good, would drink it over the next 5 years.

First bottle from this vintage. Fine balance between youth and maturity. Will be interesting to follow over the next 5 years. And yes. It can easily age for another 5 years.

Brief note as the wine right now deserves nothing more. Aromatically correct but harsh on the palate. Consumed over two days and that did not help the tasting experience.

Decanted 30 minutes - no sediment. Pretty purple color. Seemed like an early mature wine, definitely in its drinking window. Plums and blackberries on the nose with a dollop of vanillin oak. The palate was more lush than expected - blackberries, pepper, spices, maybe some olive. Medium length finish with some more oak - soft fruit but definitely a bit of tannin and maybe a little bitterness at the end. This probably has a few years of good life remaining, but uncertain what improvement will be achieved. Liked but not loved...

By the glass. It really deserves that name of "three oaks" because here there is unstoppable wood . On the nose we could only highlight notes of red berries. The rest is like smelling a freshly sawn plank. The same familiar sensation is repeated in the mouth: great structure and firm tannins. It is like to suck the stick of ice lollies.

Rhone Reds (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 100% Syrah from vines 25-60 years old grown in glacial alluvium soil composed of rolled pebbles; "All parcels are separately matured & aged (oak barrels or concrete vats) for 15 days, ageing in half-muids or oak barrels for about 15 mos. This cuvee is made with 20% of whole crop."
N: RIPE berries, poss with notes of raisins? Smoke & bacon fat with swirling
P: LM body; NICE frt met by astringent pucker which loses some of its snap as it morphs into a LONG, very, VERY slightly bitterish finish with a tangy/swtness to the dusty tannins. NEEDS through '19, poss '20, then approaching its 10th? NICELY done! My EXC-, & one can argue more for QPR. 92 pts Vinous, 4*/5 drinkrhone.com [vat/cask sample], & 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson. [This vendor's $23.95 is at the head of wine-searcher's listings.]
Note: I enjoyed this more than I had on 8/18 or 9/15/2018.

N: Fragrantly RIPE, JAMMY berries with floral aspects; Intensity lurking
P: Med, poss LM, body; Rndish entry with NICE, almost swtish frt met by some puckerish astringency which slowly morphs into a LONG finish with hints of swness & an ever increasing sense of quasi-bitter flatness. P: MF body; RNDISH entry with nice, ALMOST swtish frt met by some astringent pucker which somewhat resolves as it transitions into a LONG finish with ult a tangy/swtness (with HINTS of raisins?) to the dusty, very, VERY slightly bitterish tannins. NEEDS into, probably through, '20, but overextracted (at least for my P)? 13% ABV; My VG+, arguably more for the QPR represented by this vendor's $23.95, which is at least $1 < any of wine-searcher's other current listings. 92 pts Vinous, 4*/5 drinkrhone.com [vat/cask sample], & 16.5/20 Jancis Robinson.

A pleasant, nicely mature, easy-going Syrah, with plum/cherry fruit and some spice. Medium weight.

A fairly dark colour; soft, elegant and with some weight, this is a very good Crozes which is drinking well now.

A fine example, with slightly perfumed fruit (red cherry/raspberry), a well rounded palate and good length. Drinking well now.

Pretty anonymous, especially for the price. Syrah-ish I guess, blocky tannins, nothing of interest here

Syrah on the easy side, pleasant, no questions asked and I’ll be happy to enjoy it (some of the other Darnaud cuvees are more interesting)

Opaque core; rich, sumptuous nose, red fruit pastilles; some oak, plush, lush even; finishes indeterminately.

Demure black fruit, touch of black olive, a little roasty, quite boring.
