Deep garnet color. Aromas of plums, prunes, raspberries, tobacco, leather. Wine is dry, intense with medium acidity. Softened tannins. Full bodied, big, very good and very long.

90 minute decant. Garnet color, with a touch of bricking at the edges. Earthy nose with notes of mint and anise. A delicious melange of savory flavors undergirded by dark fruit. Firm tannins are still present. This one still has several years of life ahead, although I suspect it has already peaked.

1 hour decant. Brick red color; Lovely earthy flavors: mushroom; loam and leather. All set off by deeply flavored black cherry fruit. Softened tannins. Quite delicious. Deep, dark and integrated. Impressive effort for what was an extremely hot summer. I spent two weeks in Tuscany that summer. It’s fun to taste this bottle From that lovely summer.

Pergole Torte lunch (Chicago, IL): My favourite of the PTs today; this has got to be one of the best European 2003s I've tasted. Black fruited, sweet, and leathery, with plenty of structure and a good number of years left in the tank, I love catching this wine as it seems like its potential is just starting to crest. No signs of overripeness or roastedness; just full-blooded, damn good sangiovese.

Pop and pour. Appearance is clear, medium+ intensity, garnet-brown colour. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of earthiness, mild perfume, and sweet red fruits. On the palate, medium+ acidity, drying tannins that were just nice without being too prominent, full body, long finish. Flavours of sour cherries, blueberries, earthiness, and a bit of leather. Clear-cut Sangiovese profile. Sweeter and sweeter with more air. Overall quite balanced and nice mouth-feel. 3 people finished the bottle effortlessly.

Poured half of bottle indo decanter and drank over 3h. A light garnet, bricking at the rim. A complex nose with earth, sulphur, red and dark fruit and some tobacco. On the palate this is not the tannic beast one might fear in the 03 vintage but a rather accurately drawn and pretty Sangiovese. Tannins are fine but very dry and add to the perception of a fine but slightly hard wine. Medium finish. Curious to try the rest of the bottle on day 2. While this is drinking well now as it is a nice and very well made Sangiovese in the difficult 03 vintage, I think it might improve if the softens without losing much of the fruit. Might be worth to put aside for a few more years.
PS: Much softer and rounder out of the small (air tight) PET bottle on day 2. Does however not have the depth and complexity of the 1999.

light and delicate. Cherry and leather, with mild tannins. It was a pop and pour so we did not get a chance to see how it evolved but the flavors seemed ready right away. I ilked this quite a bit, but it seems like it could be overwhelmed rather easily.

Beautiful wine. Subtle sour cherry and leather and Radda soil. Excellent structure and grip. Terrific second day. Come back in several years and add to position. See note posted on Galloni's board

Wow -- the first Sangiovese-based wine that I have enjoyed in a long time. Smooth, silky texture with light cherry and suble tar notes. Very dry and clean.

Decanted for one hour prior to tasting.
Medium garnet color; raspberry nose.
Lots of red fruit, and lovely savory notes of leather, roast meat and a touch of mint. Remarkably lithe for a 20 year-old Sangiovese.

Another 03 that held up well. Very Bordeaux with a Tuscan overture.

Sunfish 400th Tasting (Sunfish cellars): A small tasting pour. Lots of Bordeaux character. A touch of acid on the finish reminds you that it's from Italy.

Sunfish Cellar High End Tasting (Sunfish Cellars, St. Paul, MN): Tasting pour. I had the sense this was falling apart. Dark red fruits, black cherry, plum, earthy, and firm tannins. Alcohol was prominent along with oak notes.

There is nothing 03 about this at all. This is so youthful and restrained and such a pure expression of Sangiovese. Fantastic wine.

More elegant than I expected for a 2003. Quite refined, yet powerful. After about an hour in the caraf it really opened up. Lovely.

Not terribly impressed. Is this really a relation of the '98 pergole torte? Chalk it up to the vintage I suppose.
