Nose: petroleum at first then citrus, apples and Herbs Palete: complex and layered with a hint of Petroleum, then citrus and apple and other fruits. Herbal at the end. A great wine!

Dönnhoff Dellchen Vertical Tasting (Frankfurt): Salty, aniseed, very lean, elegant wine. Some lactic notes, wine is grippy and juicy. Will benefit from more bottle age. Currently in puberty.

No notes taken. Tasted double blind. This showed expressive on the nose and palate. A multilayered, fresh fruit core, a beautiful zest and framed by a nice minerality component. Medium complex only but with high precision. Round, lively acidity, a touch of creaminess which create a great balance. 93/94 pts. This clearly edged out the Trimbach Clos St. Hune 2009 (91) in the next glass.

Started off slow, but developed nice intensity after ~30 minutes in the glass. But it was fresh right out of the gate, spreading scents of blossoming meadows, citric fruit and flint mineral notes. This is impressively precise and linear, palate boasts electric acidity. But complexity was limited.

94pts. This was not as expressive as a bottle I've tasted from this vintage some months ago. Maybe it is undergoing a closed stage, but nonetheless it was still very good. Can't go wrong with Dönnhoff.

I don't think I've had this since the 2014 vintage. That wine was elegant if a little slight, this is not that. It is really intense and has a deep bed of stone with that white peach thing I associate with Dönnhoff along with the Concord grape pith that I get from young, dense riesling. I don't mean to imply that this was a slog, it was delicious to drink and even fun as it opened up, relaxed, and released some floral, herbal meadow nuance. I'm not the best person to ask about drinking windows, but I'd wait 2-3 years and then have another.

Tasted at James Suckling Wine Central, Hong Kong 2017 Dönnfoff Dellchen Riesling Großes Gewächs was ripe and racy, perfectly combining the intense power and refined elegance of a great Riesling. The youthful Nahe Riesling was clear and pale lemon in colour. It had pronounced primary nose of peach, apricot, grapefruit and lemon, with subtle wet stones and mineral in the background. The intense flavours lingered on the palate in a long finish. While the Riesling was dry and high in acidity, it was neither sharp nor harsh, but matched with the mineral characters and the ripe citrus and stone fruit flavours. A decade of aging would do magic to this complex, intense and mineral Riesling. (94)

This was the third bottle in a group setting dining out, so it was only casually noted. But this was very nice. It does have an electric tension, lots of energy; mineral body. Not bracing, but the acid keeps it tense. Worked well at the table and was enjoyed by all.

GG Tour VDP.GROSSE LAGE 2019 (Handelskammer Hamburg): Some critics wrote this vintage the Dellchen is top of the heap from Dönnhoff, maybe, depends on your preferences, razor sharp mineralic, beats your palate like a machete sugar cane, extreme long finish, an unusual Dellchen, now only on the mineralic side of Riesling, highly recommended, wait! (*****), 96+ potential

Impressions from "Perspektive Wein" fair (Wagenhallen, Stuttgart): *** brief notes from wine fair, primary for my own memory *** Glas: Stölzle white wine I do understand, why some Critics say, that the Dellchen is really the top of dry Riesling in Germany in 2017: Already wonderful complex and beautiful nose, great depth and tension, racy, ripe acidity, salty mineral core and a beautiful elegance and balance. Will be a great wine in 7-10+ years! 94+++
