Großartig! Das hat Zug, viel Grip, eine karge/steinige Anmutung. Fordernd, aber brilliant. Hervorragend zu trinken mit weiterem Potenzial. Aber kein Grund zu warten.

Tasting note from day 2: What a beauty. Nose is delicate with grapefruit, cotton candy, lime and citrus zest with some spices and smoke. Palate is extraordinary, elegant but with power and tension. I find this wine perfectly balanced between Riesling typical acidity, slightly almost unnoticeable bitter notes and salinity.
I must admit on day 1 I would have rated significantly lower. This wine needs a lot of air or at least 3 more years cellaring. But once its open, it‘s stunning.

Light yellow. Higher toned, more green citrus and florality than the older Austrian wine. Lighter as well. Herbs and lime, a great rush of acidity, and powerful, long, smoky granite/limestone finish. Energetic and extremely young but brisk and exhilarating without being too severe.

Excellent concentration, tension and minerality - power without weight! Needed so much air, on day three it slowly started to show its outstanding qualities. Green, yellow and orange fruit spectrum, still showing the typical young stage Riesling reduction of celery and fennel, but already lots of smoke and minerals. Very, very long! Still a baby... 94-96+ potential

not blind A bit disappointed, too aged for this young stage, still fresh, one hour of decantation, later on some nut and a good length. For 2017 missing acidity. 92-93

Dinner at Dear Margaret (Chicago, IL): #28-18, 13% abv. Judging from my note from four years ago, I've become a lot more tolerant of dry riesling. This has matured nicely, with good breadth on the palate, while maintaining good lightness. Moderate acids and a delicate touch to the fruit that reminds me of the sweet Dönnhoffs made by Helmut. A slight green herb streak, and some tart tropical fruit.

This wine was really, really good. It has that vegetal green fruit thing I'm calling aloe these days, but that's not exactly what it is. Shows real density and complexity but what really captured my attention was how it became lighter on its feet and more elegant with more air. This wine is pretty expensive and so I don't think it'll be a regular thing for me but I really think that in a few years it will be really special and compared with $100 grand vins from other places is probably at least fairly priced. Dönnhoff was one of the first German wines (along with Toni Jost and Prum) that I got in to back in the early 90s so it's nice to swing back around in a totally different market context and still find such high quality. While it seemed like this wine would be all about power, it was the elegance that really set it apart in the end.

blind, Zalto universal, decanted for half hour I guessed 2017 Nahe Dönnhoff Dellchen. a bit sweet in the late palate, I had it straighter and more focussed in Memory. The salinity is not in the Background but is equal to the fruits. 94+

Mild duft av pære, urter, snev av lime. Frisk i munnen. Syre og mineralitet dominerer i munnen. Ettersmak med litt eple(skrott). Nokså lukka nå, ikke kjempespennende på dette tidspunktet.

Drank alongside the 2017 Schäfer-Fröhlich Felseneck GG. Classic and stately. Also massive fruit but less of the wild, exotic stuff. Citrus, peach, herbs and mineral. Long, citrus dominated finish.

Tasted after the 2018. A little less expressive fruit on the nose, more herbal and mineral, lots of depth, brooding. On the palate again incredibly well balanced - mineral, powerful, elegant and vibrant. A little cooler than the 2018. Amazing length. 95-96+

HDH auction at Spiaggia; 4/12/2019-4/13/2019 (Chicago, IL): #28-18, 13% abv. This has the quintessential young Donnhoff taste, whatever the heck that means. It's a hefty, large-scaled wine, with lots of bright fruit and some really beautiful aromatics. For my palate, however, this is a little bit more lean and bracing than I'd like, and I'd have liked some more fatness overall.

2017 Riesling GG Tasting @ VINEUM in Rotterdam, the Netherlands (Vineum, Rotterdam): Third wine of the seventh flight. For me the runner-up today behind the truly spectacular Felseneck of Schäfer-Fröhlich...Would you drink this on it's own though...Whether it is in 2019 or in the next 10 years, you will be very happy and lucky!! 95-96

Trinity Wine Fair (Stavros Niarchos Park): The wine shows mild intensity, ripe tropical fruit, ripe lemon, the palate shows medium to high acidity, 4.5gr of sugar, lime, green, lemon, fresh, medium body, mineral and tight, medium finish.

Impressions from "Perspektive Wein" fair (Wagenhallen, Stuttgart): *** brief notes from wine fair, primary for my own memory *** Glas: Stölzle white wine HH was much more closed and locked compared to the Dellchen. But you can feel the huge potential. Maybe not as electrifying as in 2016 but also with great energy and tension. Very long and lingering. Needs at least 7+ years to fully blossom. 92+++

Quite good, but needs to settle down before being able to fully assess. Still gas here. Great range of citrus and stone fruits, some wet slate, and deeper floral notes. 94?

Last nights 2017 made me wonder if the 2017’s Riesling GG are awaking?!?
YES they START to do so 👏👏👏🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
Don’t get me wrong, no rush here, but if you have a big stock, pop one!
👁️ light straw yellow
👃 most restrained still, when it gets warmer it shows beautiful finesse of white flowers, mandarine, slate, all subtle &fine!
👄 again like I said last night, electric ⚡️, great 🍋 & 🍋🟩 but also 🍊. Super light but very long finish.
Only at the start, might get close to perfect!
Now - 2040
98p++

not really mature, but although great showing, delicate vineyard peach, finesse like flow, great depth, dense, while swallowing dancing down the palate, great length, as nearly always among the leaders of the dry pack! **(**-*****), 94, 95(+) potential

Lemon rind, stones, overly perfumed white florals. On the palate slate, lemon, bitter, and lots of acid. Overly perfumed and not enough fruit.
Wine was far behind Keller Hubacker '17 and Maximin Grünhäuser Herrenberg '17 GG.
