Dark garnet in color and the nose is amazing! I don’t understand some of the previous notes as the nose in my glass is wonderful - lots of terroir and deep dark fruit - much like a young Bordeaux that likes to smack you across the room with a baseball bat. On the palate there is depth to the fruit (it may age well) with some moderate tannins. Balance is a touch off but the finish is adequately long. I had a fair amount of sediment - more than I would expect after 6 years so I decanted and filtered. Amazing value that I wasn’t expecting. Thanks for reading.

Overall: second bottle of this opened in the last 6 months. First one I found alcoholic and bitter. Second bottle was great, especially considering price.
Nose was dark with blackberries and black licorice, color was deep ruby, palate was both earthy and fruity. There were some herbs as well. Finish was medium in length and pleasant. I picked up some cocoa in the finish as well.

Wonderful wine that is ready to drink. Pnp with the apprehension that this old world wine would be rough out of the gates. One taste and all the apprehensions were allayed. This blend from 70-year-old vine Grenache (55%) and 40-year old Syrah (45%) is ready to drink right out of the bottle. This wine is aged in concrete tanks and spends no time in the barrel. The vines grow in limestone soil that is scattered with large rocks (also called galets roules). The notes are of cherries, blackberries, chocolate, olives, and black pepper. It is medium+ bodied on the palate, with medium acidity and finish. The tanins are silky and are so well integrated. A real pleasure of a wine. WA 90 pts is spot on.

PnP with Stuffed Bell Peppers & Cucumber Salad. Excellent wine, surprisingly docile, confirming decanting not necessary for it to be housebroken.
I usually don't repeat tasting notes for wines, I've tried, but this was so pleasing I was spurred to do another note. Spouse Really liked (me too). Sadly, Costco does not have any more.

This wine has an incredible ability to absorb foods with residual sugar, Thai sauces with sugar. On it’s own it’s both fat and ripe and green and underripe, not a wine I’d sing about; but with pairings it’s brings a richness to Asian food that is balanced and thoughtful. Fantastic

I guess I got lucky and got a "stellar one". $14 at Costco, very much worth that. Appreciate the comment from a previous reviewer about the syrah presence, without overwhelming the grenache; very accurate.

Popped and poured; consumed over two days and the best was Day 2. The wine appears deep ruby with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity. Medium intensity on the nose with blue and black fruits, deli case, purple flowers, smoked meat, olive brine, black pepper and baking spice. On the pallet, the wine is dry with a mixed fruit set: ripe red, blue and black fruits in abundance with Herbes de Provence and baking spices. Long saline finish, medium+ tannin and acid. The Syrah plays a very strong role despite Grenache being the dominant variety in the blend.

Big time bottle variation in this wine. Some have been stellar. This one had the off-putting smells and flavors of tawny port that completely detracted from the wine's appeal. No wonder Costco is selling at a discount--it is pot luck: do you get a good bottle--which can be quite marvelous--or a funky bottle--which is awful?

Opened last night. This is, once again, simply amazing, given its low price. Even more amazing when Costco provides an additional $3 off for a total $13.99 purchase price. This is a very dark garnet with red stains on the glass. Smoky, meaty, bacon fat aromas are not far off from a decent Cote Rotie. Big, bold, rich and powerful in the mouth, but once again there is such an abundance of fruit the strong tannins are overcome. This has its rough edges, but it is truly phenomenal for the price. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.
Original sips of this wine were like 🤩. Wow! Later some hints of backside bitterness. Nice food wine. Might buy more but at $14, even tho $3 off, not a bargain- for me.

Impulse Purchase @ Costco. 14.5% abv - $14 Per Producer's web-site, a blend of Grenache (60%) & Syrah (40%)
Served at room temperature (label recommends 61-63f) with Stuffed Bell Peppers, Broccoli & Caprese Salad. Deep Ruby color in the glass with purple tinges around the rim. Cherry and raspberry on the nose with notes of garrigue (think Languedoc). Blackberry and cherry with some plum, pepper and garrigue on the palate. I'd call it a fuller-bodied wine, with a nice round feel in the mouth. Ample acidity with prominent tannins, smooth, but enough 'bite' to leave a fuzzy-tooth feel. Nice lingering finish.
I decanted for 2 hours before serving based on the prior tasting notes. Expecting a more 'ferocious' beginning, it was surprisingly docile on the pour; perhaps a long decant is not necessary. I believe this wine is a legitimate 90-point contender, and will buy again; but I tend to like Languedoc wines.

Gotta say, this is impressing me again. For such a modest price this delivers deep fruit and real character and personality. Gorgeous appearance, tremendous garrigue in the nose, and very ripe and richly fruited in the mouth. Almost overpowering. Just smashing. No subtlety, it’s all in your face, but somehow it works—though probably better with a bold meat foil. 5-13-16-8: 92/100.

Open for three days. Dark ruby violet color. Rich, deep nose of mostly purple fruits. Full-bodied, this packs quite a punch in the mouth even after three days. Should be able to age for quite a while, but still very enjoyable even now with a good decant. Not wowing me as much as a previous bottle, this is nevertheless very nice wine and a very good value. 5-12-15-8: 90/100.

Decanted for 45 minutes. Dark ruby-purple in color. Nose of pine, forest floor, smoke, blackberry, and bramble. Medium-heavy bodied (lighter than I was expecting), dry, medium-high acidity. Palate of tart blackberries, plums, and currants. Round and dusty tannins that bring forward notes of earth, pine, leather, and smoke. Finish is lengthy with minerals, coffee, herbs, black pepper, and more smoke.
As I sip on this, it reminds me of a of Huberd’s Shoe Grease (in a good way). While this is drinkable right now, I feel like this needs more time resting or a much longer decant. This is great deal at $14 a bottle.

This is really quite nice after sitting overnight open in the cellar. Sports a dark cranberry color with tightly-spaced pale red legs. The nose is really an eye-opener on this one. Very expressive nose with strawberries and raspberries is very enticing. And the palate is not far behind, as it shows off dark fruits, coffee, and earth. Extremely complex finish. This is a revelation, worthy of a case purchase even at twice the price. Be sure to give it plenty of air, as it really opens up in 24 hours. 5-13-16-9: 93/100.

Next up for the Virtual Wine Tasting was this Grenache from the same producer as our Rosè. A light garnet color and 50% opaque. We got earthy leather, caramel, black cherry, white chocolate, fresh cut mushroom and forest floor. The palate was mineral driven with some black cherry, smoke, cloves and black licorice. It was decent but not as earth shattering as I was hoping for ( it got 93 points from the pros!). 89 points and for $17 this wine got 3 stars from me. Drink till 2025.
Edit: It much gamier and smoother on day 2. I upgraded the score to 90 points and 4 stars.
I’ve heard good things about this wine, and previous TNs concur. This bottle didn’t do it for me though. PnP pre-dinner, which was underwhelming. Slightly better with food, still a lot of alcohol heat at the end. Maybe it just needs more time?
