Tasted at Chateau d’Issan, wine #2. Grand Vin made from a blend of 65% CS and 35% Merlot, aged for 18 months in oak, 50% new barrels. Medium intensity slightly closed but complex aroma of blackcurrants, cherries, vanilla, chocolate, cigar box, lavender hints. Medium body, feels elegant and seamless with a string of freshness, delicate salinity. Flavours are earthy and smoje infused along extra fine refined tannins, long finish.
Deep ruby colour. Pronounced and developing nose with blackberry, black pepper, licorice, vanilla, cloves, leather, tobacco, wet leaves and forest floor. Pronounced taste of red plum, blackberry, black cherry, black plum, black pepper, licorice, vanilla, cloves, tobacco, wet leaves and forest floor. Long and dry finish. High acidity. High tannins. Full body. A very good Margaux with further potential. Drink in five to twenty years. Goes well with beef or lamb.

Blackberry purée, black cherry, ripe plum, wild sage, pipe tobacco and stone. Full-bodied, with fibrous and sleek tannins, this flows long and has a nice grip. After a two hour decant, this truly opens up. It reminds me of ‘03 meets ‘00. Enough backbone to age, yet to enjoy young with a decent decant, there is a great finesse. Drink 2023 - 2038.

Surprisingly seductive aromas with perfume that lies over blackberries, plums, graphite and leather with light spices. Good full-bodied, fresh and juicy wine with a good mouthfeel of blackberries, blackcurrants, plum peel, crushed stone, graphite and leather. Nice bite in the tannins. Good finish on this very good wine that will benefit from time in the cellar for 10-15 years.

Barrel sample at BB&R 2017 en primeur tasting. Nose OK but body relatively thin and tannic. Decent length. I've been surprised before by how well D'Issan can develop in the bottle so you never know. Not one of the better 2017s though.

A silky style of wine that is medium bodied, forward, polished and fruity. There is lift, ripe red fruits, forest leaf and tobacco strokes from start to finish. The juicy fruits in the endnote offer melodious, creamy textures. In three to five years this will develop even more intriguing complexities and softer textures. From a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, the wine reached 13.18% alcohol with a pH of 3.68. The Grand Vin was produced from 47% of the harvest. The picking took place September 18 through October 3.

Amazing for the price. Every bit as delicious as when I tried it in Tuscany!

A week in Bordeaux (Mouton, Pontet Canet, D'Issan, Langoa & Leoville Barton, SHL, Arbo, Pavie, Fleur de Bouard, Cheval Blanc, VCC, Figeac); 5/21/2023-5/26/2023 (Left and Right banks of Bordeaux): Tasted @ the Chateau. PNP with no decant. Very nice complex wine that's a 93 for me right now but needs a few more years.

Dark red color. Blueberry, blackcurrant, red berries, little oak and pencil shavings. Some tannins. Good balance. Long. Great wine!
