  • Beautiful bouquet with red and dark berries and elegant, well dosed oak. Same on the palate, beautiful acidity, mild tannin and a good length. A slight touch of sweetness, elegant and already supple and friendly.

  • I liked this wine a lot upon release but it's closed up a bit but there is a lovely savory texture developing. Will let this sit 5 more years. 90+

  • 40th anniversary tasting (L'Esprit du Vin - Axelborg): My notes from this fantastic gigantic tasting are in general extremely short (because of the many wines) but with ratings. We spent a whole day tasting and tasting quality wines.

    This wine: tasted 2017, 2016, 2011:
    - 2017: 93 The best of them, savoury style, cassis, long finish.
    - 2016: 92. Closed at the moment.
    - 2011: 92+. Clearly green bell pepper, cassis, high tannins.

  • Plummy. Was coravin’d. Smooth, well defined tannins that stood out. Crushed violet. Plum notes initially off putting. But opening up nicely. Cassis. Good, but just not really exactly my speed.

  • "Casual" Wine Dinner with Friends (Kai Garden @ Marina Square): Deep purplish ruby with violet hue. Tight and barnyardy to start, but with 7 hours of bottle breathing, starts exhibiting rich blackberry and cassis as well as mint and nutmeg on nose and palate. Tannins still a good bite after breathing, and very juicy acids, while maintaining a good weight and intensity. Lengthy finish. Not a strong vintage on paper, but quite happy how it opened up to show quite a bit of potential. Nice!

  • Delicious. Wonderful mix of red and blue fruits. Very well polished and integrated even at this you age.

  • Decanted approx. 30min but would go 1-2h. Dark and blue berry fruit with a base of dry earth. Opening up with aeration to presents floral notes and dried herbs. Good tension and strongly built palate with a pretty vibrant finish. Despite 17 being an early-drinking vintage and Rauzan-Ségla having presented itself as especially approachable with the 2018 and 2019 vintages, this should be cellared another 3 years at least. Compared to the more recent vintages, this was simpler and had notably fewer sweet oaky notes while texture was more coarse.

  • Probably one of the nicest 2017s we’ve tried, but we haven’t tried many.

The wine is lighter in mouthfeel than the big vintages, but here that’s not a bad thing: there is great elegance in the wine and a wonderful balance. There is also elegance, depth and perfume on the nose.

At €79 or so, this is quite a nice Margaux. Probably to be drunk relatively soon, as it is not believed to have good ageing potential.

Tasted at Ets Martin in St Emilion.

  • Very nice and elegant wine from Margaux. Very savory but with red fruits lingering. Fine tannin, medium plus acidity, lingering finish. Light and airy. QPR is very good at $65.

  • Bordeaux 2017 wine tasting at mezza9 in singapore. 4h decant. Medium purple color. Blackcurrant, raspberry, smoke, black tea, green capsicum, on the nose. Med acidity, med alcohol, med body, med flavor intensity, firm but fine tannins, med finish. Nice and fresh red fruit, green capsicum, mint, not a very long finish, bit watery so slightly disappointing. Guess you could wait another couple of years but not convinced at this time.

  • Decanted for an hour and finished the following day. Black cherries, blackberries, cedar, cassis, flower shop and new leather. The body is full, with lift and the tannins are fine, and not overwhelming at all. There’s also layers of red fruit, with a finish that glides along. Depth. This will age very well and is more approachable than one might think. Drink 2024 -.

  • Stoney nose. Plums. There is a very pleasant lightness on the palate with this wine. Enjoyed.

  • Nice and balanced, a little tannic at this young age, but that’s only to be expected.

  • Light colour. Medium nose. Cedar, red fruit and alcohol. Med acid, low tannins, med fruit, short finish. Was expecting a big and young bourdeux, but it wasn’t there. Will tru again in a few years.

  • Great charming aromas with this underlying perfume that lies and creates desire for nicer raspberry fruit, cassis, black currants, hints of graphite, leather, licorice and against the herbal in the spice way. Good full-bodied and fresh wine with a very good mouthfeel of red berries, purple fruit peel, herbs, anise and leather on an almost slightly feminine finish. Nice acidity and tannin structure. At least 15 years here. Great wine.

  • Tasted 10 Bordeaux blends semi blind with Coravin. Same bottle as last note but different circumstances.
Young fruity inky black currant and a tad green impression. Fresh clean nose. Good acidity levels and very fine silky tannin. Just keep until ready...
    92-94p

  • Coravin samples of 2016 and 2017. Compared to the 2016 this has some catching up to do. Still very primary almost inky fruit. Solid fruit, very fine tannin and balancing acidity. Felt a bit warm on the finish. Yet it failed to impress, at least when compared to 2016. 92-94p

  • One of the top wines of the appellation, this gorgeous, soft, polished, silky, fresh, charmer comes with loads of ripe, lush, sweet fruit. The entry is soft, clean and fresh. The mid-palate and finish leave with the impression of ripe, dark red and black, elegantly style fruits. This could take at least a decade before it starts showing its best.

  • What a pretty nose the Rauzan Segla has - intense but elegant cassis, blueberry, incense with a floral touch. Rich, easy palate though, as with the 16, I wonder if the tannins are a bit too low. Long, violet filled finish. 94+

  • 2017 UGC Des Bordeaux, San Francisco, nose of lovely dark fruit, medium/big body, tasty, lovely fruit, brooding fruit today, 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36%% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, medium/long finish, needs 3 years to peak.

  • UGC Bordeaux (Drake Hotel - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting. Pleasant with soft textures, bright fruit and good balance. But frankly, this is simple for Bordeaux at this level, and do not understand most of the other reviews for this wine, or for the vintage in general.

  • The 2017 Rauzan Segla was a total standout at the Union des Grand Crus tasting. Here I found a dark, seductive and remarkably pretty display, leading off with savory earth tones, tobacco, a dusting of minerals, and animal musk, and then transforming in the glass, revealing crushed blackberries with hints of dry cocoa. On the palate, it was soft, silky… sultry, displaying depths of black and dark red fruits, offset by penetrating minerals and savory spices, as inner violet florals added a fresh flourish. The finish was long, yet subtle, more whispering than shouting, with fine tannins lurking beneath its lingering dark fruits and crisp minerality.

  • Bordeaux 2017 En Primeur - In Bottle Tasting (Montreal): My Margaux WOTN. I am hesitating between 93-94, will go with 93 with uptake to 94 in 8 years or so. Wonderful purity of black fruit, cassis, liquorice, vanilla, cedar, the palate was pure and elegant with finely integrated tannins and a medium-long clean finish.

  • Bordeaux 2017: A first look at the newly bottled 2017s Bordeaux. Twelve top 50 Chateaux, three top whites and one top sweet wine tasted (but hardly any superstar). All in all, the wines are good with a soft structure which might make them relatively early approachable. In terms of concentration and depth, however, they do not even remotely match the 2016s (or 2015s and 2018s for that matter). I had a tad higher hopes (for the reds and whites). Top reds: Pichon Lalande (94), Carmes, Poyferre, Canon and Valandraud (all 93) – all with 2 or 3 points upside once mature. As there are so many great recent vintages, there is no need to chase the 2017s reds, especially as they’re priced too high (compared to the other vintages). The sweet wines might be worth exploring further.

TN: This was a winner in 2018 from barrel (scored 96) with a good depth and an top of the rank softness and elegance. This 2017 does not play in the same category in terms of aromatic depth, concentration and it has not the same weightless structure. Still it is a pleasant wine able to reach 93/94 points once mature. At the moment is shows not yet so harmonious with red, dark fruits and a herbal component, fine tannins, not perfectly integrated acidity and medium length.

  • Arvi 2017 in the bottle tasting at the Dolder Grand in Zurich. Main conclusions: 1) Less concentration and complexity than 2015 and 2016; 2) generally soft tannins and light structures; 3) often well approachable already. Not a vintage to store for future generations, but one where you probably won't have to wait for a decade or more to pop a bottle and is likely to offer drinking pleasure early on. Of the 20 wines tasted, my top picks would be Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Clinet, Chevalier Blanc, Pichon Lalande (all 96) followed by Leoville Barton, de Fargues and Valandrau (all 95). See the tasting story for some number crunching.

    Tasting note:
A slightly unripe fruit – although not necessarily in a bad way – green herbal notes. Slightly harsh tannins. Acidity not ideal. Miles below the 2018 barrel sample.

  • Deep in color, this wine is violets, licorice, coffee bean, thyme and ripe red fruits which take no effort to find. The wine is luxurious, concentrated and bright with a texture that feels like the deep fruits were polished with velvet. On the palate, there is a sweetness and juicy quality to the fruit combined with energy and a kiss of oak. Give this a decade or just a bit longer and this beauty will really shine. The wine was produced from blending 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, reaching 13.0% alcohol with a pH of 3.68. The harvest took place September 12 to September 28. The Grand Vin was made from 55% of the harvest.
