Deep ruby. The nose explodes with red fruit and spice. Full body, soft and intense, with layers upon layers of fruit, spice and earth. persists in the mouth for a while. This is excellent.

so delicious, soft, smooth and succulent fruit on the attack, so tasty with lots of deep and vibrant complexity, brambles, briary. Impressive for a 2000.

A very good bottle indeed! Deep Ruby and immediately alluring on the news from the first pour.Very complex news of dark cherry, space, soil, touch of leather and truffle. The palate is not quite as lengthy as the nose but it is completely in harmony and wonderfully balanced. Not quite the example of a powerful, masculine Richebourg but still very good and delicious. Drink these soon if you have them in your cellar.

The initial omens were not good. Mould atop cork visible when the top of the capsule was removed. Upon drawing the cork it came out in one piece bust was soaked through. I suspect that the mould (presumably from wine that had leaked due to a porr quality cork) might have created a barrier to the entry of air. Why? The wine was delicious. Not as good/bright as some Grand Cru 2000's that I have tasted but it showed its class and source. I have five left and will check their corks when out of isolation. If they are wet and/or mouldy I will drink them pronto. If not I will happily leave for another three years max

In magnum format. It was a solid wine overall but not particularly impressive. It delivered typical Richebourg's power and structure, with good amount of purple fruits and spices, but I think it is probably at its peak performance.

Buono e particolare

Duration: 4 hours Condition: Perfect Food: Japanese Teppanyaki Aroma: Strawberry, spices Glass: Zalto Burgundy Note: took quite some time to open up. We didn't start to drink this bottle until it breathed in the bottle for a little more than 2 hours. When it first opened the nose was pretty flat with a lot of spices. Luckily the spices later integrated with the strawberry nose and evolved into a somewhat typical nose you can find in many Vosne Romanee wines. On the palate it's medium bodied with moderate amount of tannin. The kind of dried leaves and cigar smoke characteristic of Richebourg from some other makers wasn't available in this bottle, I'd say that this bottle actually does not deliver the amount of complexity I expected before opening it, thus in general this was a disappointment to me.

WineBerserkers Bay Area Burgundy Tasting (Bella Trattoria, San Francisco): The bouquet of sandalwood, hoisin, mint and perhaps just a little meat was something I could smell for hours. Bright ruby red in colour, still looking very young. Intense but not big, lacy palate showing juicy red berries, some dark berries at times and baking spice. Long finish with lingering dark berries and good acidity. Still quite primary and evolving, was a little shy at times but always showed great promise. Very enjoyable now but I’d recommend to hold this for at least 4-5 years to receive maximum enjoyment.

Burgundy Tasting (San Francisco): Awesome intensity, with nuanced and supple grace, this was young and lithe. Since someone mentioned it at the table, there was indeed a note of hoisin sauce on the nose which added an asian sort of complexity. The red fruits were pure and at times reserved, but ever-present. My note says "graceful" and "beautiful".

WineBerserkers Bay Area Burgundy Tasting (Bella Trattoria, San Francisco): Lively young ruby color; nose is very complex with exotic spices, sandalwood, deep, minty, menthol; very smooth texture, defined cherry fruit, needs time to open up, young, dense through the midpalate; medium finish. This is a truly superlative wine, perhaps the best of this tasting, and it needs a lot of time to continue its evolution. Truly a joy to drink, and very complex on both the nose and palate. 94-96

More intensity here than weight, but it suits this just fine - it was a delicious bottle of wine, very much enjoyed. Not the paradign of Richebourg but a fine bottle of 2000.

Typical Vosne spice on the nose. Really elegant and not flabby at all considering the vintage. Quite light-bodied. A serious and quiet wine. A typical middle aged Richebourg.

Another time with this wine. A little bit better than last bottle, more clean, more dimension. Typical Richebourg aroma, easy and good finished. At the end, I prefer 2001 Echezeaux from Rouget.

Still young but drinking well. Very Richebourg, but somewhat softer than typical in accordance with the vintage. Should still improve for several years.

Hints of old oak barrique, not much clean. Not balance, high acid in first 2 hours. Getting better, more round and easy. Tiny Powerful finished...Richebourg style. A nice and lovely Richebourg. Drink now or better buy some Clos de Beze instead.

(tasted blind side-by-side with the RSV) Initially we thought this was the RSV due to the fantastically spicy nose of cloves, Asian fruits, and exotic herbs. It was also silkier in texture and somewhat lighter in color. Over a few hours, however, it gained in weight and density, becoming more earthy and velvety without losing any of the exotic complexity. Incredible power and finesse at the same time - an outrageously great drink!
