Where to start...
if someone puts together a 4-day blind tasting of 200 Grand Cru Burgundies of the vintage 2000 that features all 33 GC appellations including all Grand Cru wines produced by the cult producers LEROY, DRC, ROUSSEAU, ROUMIER, COCHE-DURY, LEFLAIVE, etc. accompanied by a famous Chef on each day, I would say: you're kidding! Yet, it happened in Singapore and a few lucky friends were invited – generosity at a different level. The host is one of Asia’s prolific collectors, who not only has a 40k bottle deep cellar but also has done his reading homework with WSET and other exams on his belt. This epic blind tasting had the following features:
The tasting was called Route de Grand Cru (RdGC) 2000, meaning tasting all Grand Crus appellation of the vintage 2000 in a way that all anchor producers of each Grand Cru site were shown. As mentioned, of the very top producers, all of their GC wines were shown! For this, sometimes dedicated producer flights were showcased in addition to the appellation flights
The tasting was organized in 12 flights of 4, 48 btls per day over 4 days, with a pirate in each flight. There were also some separate surprise flights in-between and after tasting nite cap bottles, as if we had not enough wines :-) with pirates from all over the world. All wines, including the pirates, were from the vintage 2000.
Observations:
To the surprise of many, the whites did not have much premox issues and showed more consistent than the reds (also, not many corked bottles). The light and challenging vintage produced great whites. The best whites were not the heavy ones, but the ones that retained a mineralic, flinty note. They were simply stunning. Some whites where maturity was pushed, smelled too much like a pina colada (pinapple plus cream).
The reds were light as the medium quality vintage suggests. They are at the end of their drinking window with browning edges. The top reds were excellent, classic and elegant, they gave a lot of pleasure. Producers clearly trumped terroir.
Leroy and Coche were a class of their own. Boy, are they expensive, but are they awesome. Leflaive, Henri Boillot also top for whites. DRC, Ramonet, Roumier good but not at the level of Madame's wines - looks like they fired the wrong person at DRC back in the days...
Enjoy the tasting notes.
Aperitif wine. From MAG. Beautiful aromas of bruised apples, light on its feet, almost delicate, cinnamon and sweet spices on the finish. 94+

Nose of red fruit, good acidity, generally in good shape but light. Solid but could need a bit more stuffing for a higher score.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of red fruit as well, very light, some good plum coming through. A bit watery. Very composed, very precise. I continue to struggle with the tannins and palate weight of the CSJ of Rousseau. I have yet to see a top sample where both elements are in place. I generally prefer Fourrier's CSJ. Anyway, verdict: Aroma 96, palate 93

Advanced nose here, tertiary but really nice complexity. Cured meat, farmyard funk. A real success and top wine of this flight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was still before the son took over, so not representative what Fourrier's Griotte is now. More red and dark fruit, less farmyard. Slightly riper. Also good but also a touch too light like most reds in this vintage.

Beautiful nose here, red fruit, cured meat, light bodied, elegant, whole cluster. Body a bit too light but great wine overall.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, super aroma also here, dark fruit mixed with red fruit, complex farmyard funk, precise, good acidity. The full package for a lighter vintage!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A bit more advanced in hte nose than the peers in this flight. Richer, riper, good mid mouth volume but also more tired.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was more acidic and at the same time riper as well than the peers in the flight. More advanced aromas as well. Grippy tannins despite the wine being light and clear. Good rather than great.

Dessert wine with the cheese. Sweet, rich, floral, honey suckle, off dry, It smelled halfway between a Riesling or a floral Mouscat. Too sweetish for me, I clearly prefer the JJ Prum style.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dessert wine. Nose of bruised apples, dry, acidic, good ripeness, feels like a dry Chenin, Riesling from Austria it was.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dessert wine with the cheese. The nose is restraint with smoke, white pepper, more classic than the Pichler. Impressive aromas, hard to pinpoint what this is. Sancerre it turned out to be.

Nose of Mirabelle plum, advanced, bees wax, pine apple, but properly dry on the finish. Decent but a bit all over the place.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of plum, ripe a bit pushed, pushed, very Ponsot style, dried plum again on the mid palate, marmalade. Complex but the finish is a touch drying.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Structured, ripe as well like the CdV next to it, red and dark fruit, sweet spices. Good rather than grand.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lighter palate than the two Engels before it. More linear, good aromas, precise, cured meat, a bit too light and strict on the palate for a higher score though.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Here we go, a big step up from the Ech. Great wine right toff the bat. Beautiful aromatics, farmyard, cured meat, most complete wine of this prestigious flight where no bottles was below $2k.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ripe and rich, but lovely balance, strict, plush but not oxidative like some of the earlier wines. A touch dry on the finish preventing a higher score, I may be stingy here but my measurements are how the tannins of top producers are made today.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A wine from the fathers era that are not yet at the level of what they are today. It shows, strict, linear, acidity on the forefront but good red fruit core. Medium complexity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Boom, here we go. Really top nose here, plum, farmyard, dried meat, underbrush. Excellent fruit on the palate still. Complex and complete. Burg as good as they come. Nobody was spurprised when the winning wine was yet again from Madame...
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wonderful aromas here as well on the nose, in a similar league than Leroy next to it with autumn leaves, complex. the palate is light and elegant, does not possess the ripeness and polished nature of Leroy. Still, very well done.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The Raveneau wines did not do well in this tasting, despite old Raveneau typically being a recipe for stellar whites. May be the provenance was not the best, who knows. TN: Oxidative, cheese, stinky aromas. Over the hill.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Some funk at the beginning in the nose. Lemon curd, advanced tertiary but still withing drinking window level. Good but not great.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Discrete nose, very balanced, middle of the road type of wine, good, but not overly complex. Clearly I had better Raveneau than this.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Argh, corked.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of cured meat, stemmy, farmyard, cloudy color, Leroy style, a bit light, and a bit too acidic for a higher score. Classic and aromatic overall though.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nice nose right away. Richer, riper, good complexity, stemmy, farmyard, great stems, complex, Leroy funky style. Great!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Initially the nose was a bit oxy, blew off. Still a drink up candidate. Rich, ripe, stemmy, farmyard. Good complexity.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Richest and ripest of all in this Chapelle flight. Almost Prieur Roch or Ponsot style, very ripe, very rich but not oxy and the balance works.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of sour cherry, elegant but too light? Some pomegranate and grape fruit intermixing. Complex but borderline ripeness.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Feels ripe and a bit pushed, pine tree, lilly floral aromas as well, ruby color still, not oxy but bready, good mid palate volume.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Tannic, dense, masculine, demanding, like a mature Corton, not for the faint hearted, a BM flight I was asking myself and was on the money with this guess. I like the complexity here but it was too strict for a higher score. Nose 96, palate 93.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Airy, mirabelle, ripe, blue and red fruit, all this flight had good ripeness but not so much complexity. good rather than great.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ahhh, pop corn, lemon curd, fresh, great Chard, at its best, complex, rich yet racy. Grande in every way!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of fresh, lemon, a bit leaner than the Drouhin Batard next to it but more precise, with flowers and lots of other aromas. A true wow white wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very differnet than the Boillot and Drouhin next to it but no less interesting. More green apples, racier, apple cider, more acidc as well, not quite the stuffing, but good buttery finish, gained with time. Wow as well.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Good but not at the level of Boillot and Drouhin of this Batard flight. A bit overripe, the only wine that shows its age, late in the game but not oxy. Good but last in this outer worldly. 94+
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. Really dense and acidic, demanding tannins, good aromas, clean and precise but too tannic at age 22 for a higher score.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. Aaah what a nose. Ripe rich but not oxy very good farmyard funk, a bit too soft on the palate, but so fragrant. Rayas frangrance and everyone else at the table can go home. unfortunately it is no secret anymore and the wines went from 400$ to 2k in one year... :-). If Parker was wrong on ONE wine then it was Rayas.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. Very green and watery wine, good aromatics but too much asparagus, not balanced.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. This was lean and crisp, a bit green and strict, could pass for a Corton, dry finish, Cote Rotie it was. I had better Jamet than this. Try the majestetic 2010 or even from a lesser vintage, the light and elegant 2011.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of black forest cake, beautiful balance, bakery, sweet spices, lovely, so elegant, just a touch acidic for a super score.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Supernose. Great ripe wine here, farmyard, sweet spices, apple pie cinnamon, lovely, a bit too light light unfortunately on the palate.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. Much richer wine here, whole cluster, more ripeness, more volume, but also more greenness. A touch disjointed, an bit of nail polish smell, but very Burgundian. Interesting.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Strict, a bit more closed but v good still, then opening up, a slight stinginess with the tannins, like most 2000, light and transluscent color but so much aroma packed in here. Grand wine, DRC?
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, ripe, good sucrosite, almost too intense, too acidic for the fruit? A bit short. The Bienvenues were all a step below the Batards.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was very rich, almost too rich, alcoholic grapa style, not balanced.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of apple cider, acidic, not balanced either, hayaa why does this strange white flight come last. Verdict. The Bienvenues were nowhere near the Batards (as so often).
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of pop corn, lemon curd, a bit better then the rest of the flight, but not above there with the top whites today. Well, as so often the Bienvenues had no chance against the Batards.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Aperitiv wine. From MAG. Light and elegant, yet with good mid mouth volume, spiciness of Pinot visible, deep, elegant, got even better with time, very Krug style, Winston Churchill, it was. Wonderful showing.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Beautiful nose of sour cherry, excellent, deep, ripe, rich, savoury, balanced, some whole cluster, very good. 96+
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow also here, rich, ripe, whole cluster, sour cherry and dark cherry, even riper than the others but very good.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very similar to wine 1 and 2 in this flight. Also rich and ripe with sour cherry, cinnamon, a bit Rayas style, which is a good thing. May be a touch more freshness would be needed. Very good still.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very ripe and bready notes, every more mature than the others in the flight but still well drinkable, not oxidative, cinnamon, sweet spices.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was rich, ripe bready, savoury, cinnamon, Rayas style almost. Very good.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, ripe and bready, rich, sour cherry, some sour finish intermixed with the ripeness. Very good, very elegant. This Charmes showed much better than the other Rousseaus which make me wonder if these bottles were really representative.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Much cooler, blue fruit here, mint, dark cherry, pine, very aristocratic, a bit stinky funk though as well, tertiary end of life. Drink up.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A little off smell, light TCA? Ripe rich as well, dark fruit intermixed with earthy elements. Masculine but not rustic. Very good, my score is neglecting the light TCA.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. WTF, are we drinking Pina Colada? Coconut galore with caramel, off-dry palate feeling, the pine apple again on the finish. No idea what this is, but I would never drink stuff like this. Turns out it is Marcassin. Way too pushed in the ripeness is my verdict.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Generous ripeness also here with matching acidity, very good, not my style of Chard either but but very convincing if you like it a bit riper.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. From MAG. Lots of pear here, pear, apple as well with aromas of whipping cream, very rich, good acidity though as well. Very unique borderline monolithic in its aromas. Lovely nevertheless.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of green apple, cider, rich, lots of acidity, almost Chenin Blanc like, but also the fruit to carry it. Very good.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of cardboard, alas, TCA. Other than that some lovely cinnamon, sweet, Rayas style notes. NR
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, ripe, earthy, brooding, deep and complex, ripeness visible. I love how some of the wines defy the inherent thinness of red Burgs 2000.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dense lots of dry extract, demanding, dark fruit, tannins grippy, wow, serious extraction here but it works, lots of aromatic concentration and depth, masculine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Aromatic, underbrush, cool forest, pine, wood stack with moss, earthy, serious, somber, lacking more fruit for a higher score.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lovely floral nose here with cinnamon and red fruit, elegant, complex. Nice.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
More earthy, restraint, dense, compact than the CdR next to it. But good aromatics with cured meat. A more tannic and masculine expression of the vintage.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nos of raspberry and even citrus, floral, higher pitched than the others in this flight, cinnamon spice but tannins too strict.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The nose here was very bretty, with cloudy color, funky, some people in the group really loved this. I thought there was a bit too much funk.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nos of pear, apple, rich, ripe, too ripe with Pina Colada flavors which alwasy points to too much ripeness in white Burg.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Oxidative, over the hill. A shame for this Musigny Blanc, but then again no surprise with Vogue's sub-par wine making skills.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Not much better than the Chevalier next to it. Nose of apple cider, intermixed with pop corn, classic palate but with way too much ripe pine apple notes.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Also here no winner in the glass unfortunately like the Le Montrachet next to it. Very baroque with ripe Pina Colada flavors. Not classic.

First statement: My kind of wine! Floral, elegant, cured meat, cinnamon, ethereal, light. Simply stunning. Stunning.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Simply stunning nose, elegant, floral, sweet spice, a bit lighter on the palate but I rather like it light than overdone. Wow, in the as good as it gets category. All the wines in this flight were stunning. A big sigh went through the room when it was announced that it was a Leroy producer flight and not a terroir flight. On the one hand you hate when the most expensive wines are the best ones, but then again you have to be in awe and happy for Madame when you see what she has achieved. Clearly DRC has fired the wrong person.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, so elegant, sweet fruit core, endless complexity. A bit like a Rayas with more acidity and freshness. Off the charts wine, I have to give three digits here.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Awesome wine here as well. Rich, ripe with beautiful cinnamon, still enough acidity to carry it. Top like all wines in this Leroy flight. Madam is just Queen Elisabeth of Burgundy. Unmatched by anyone!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, ripe cinnamon, beautiful nose, good acidity, farmyard, tertiary, drink up, light. All the reds of Vincent Girardin did really well in this blind tasting. Kudos.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Elegant, with Vosne spice, acidity up there, great floral components, lovely spice box. 96+
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Deeper, denser and more ripe then the other wines in this flight. Very good ripeness too. So much sweet marsala spice, wow.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Deep, rich, dense, dark fruit, some plum here, really top, the most dense wine in this flight, darker pitched. All the CdRs showed really well in this tasting, much better than the CSDs. Today with Global warming, CSD has come to its own.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, ripe buttery, borderline too much pine apple here. Good but too rich vs the other wines in this flight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, extremely precise wine here, wheat, bready elements, vanilla, lemon. The surprise winner of this flight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Stunning nose here as well. Rich ripe, pine apple and with the acidity to match.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
More apple cider than lemon elements here. Elegant, linear, not as good as the Vaudesir next to it, but the Fevre weines did better than expected.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Cool and precise, dark fruit and dark cherry, favorite of group in this flight.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Cooler pitched, clear color. Tannic bite like in a Corton. Very light but a bit too strict. Of all the outer worldly Leroy showings, this was one of the weakest.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Floral nose, lighter than the other wines in this flight, cherry, cinnamon spice. Good but would need a touch more stuffing for a higher score.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Different to the others a bit, deeper richer, riper but still, precise but with stingy tannins and slightly drying finish. Probably not picked a full phenolic ripeness back then.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was a Pirate flight and most of us know that we were in Bdx now. TN: Dark brooding, tannic, rustic, acidic, feels still young, good complexity though overall and lovely tertiary profile.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate flight and most of us called it out as Bdx. This was very Bordeaux in the best sense with oak, dark fruit, classic forest aromas, aromatic, great claret, lots of dry extract, very convincing. Top showing. 98+
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate flight and easy to tell as Bdx. Very strict Bordeaux aroma and palate profile here. Seriously tannic, tannic, drying on the finish. Good but not up there with Petrus, Le Pin and Latour shown in the same flight.
Post a Comment / 4 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate flight but easily recognizable blind as Bdx. Rich fruit, tannic and brooding, lots of forest floor, (all wines in this flight had a green touch and were very aromatic). Love this, not too opulent/ripe, medium bodied, early drinking window only. Best after 2025.

The Ramonet wines did not do so well in this tasting, may be a bottle provenance issue, I don't know. This was a bit too rich and ripe for my taste, also with bruised apples, advanced, and some tropical pine apple notes.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Holy cow! As good as it gets not even a shadow of a doubt already from the nose. Match stick, beguiling aromas of pop corn, crisp lemon, gun powder, buttery yet crisp. All the glory, bakery, light and powerful, stunning. Simply a perfect white wine, whatever this is, I love it, I wrote down. Coche did it again. Coche and Leroy are the best wine makers in Burg for each color. Period!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, very advanced, too nutty for me, end of life and borderline top in terms of ripeness. The Ramonet wines unfortunately did not do so well in this tasting.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
The only of the Ramonet wines that did well in this tasting. Like the Coche Corton Charlemagne next to it, this was very crisp and light, almost too light but with lots of aromatic power. Lemon curd, pop corn, all the glory of Chard in Burg, wow, so precise. Grand!

This was the last wine made by Alain Roumier before Vogue took over. Wow, delicious, fruity, rich, lots of sucrosite, hard to find pristine bottles today of this. Lots of acidity, lots of strawberry, One of the best old wines I had. Sweetness like a Rayas, acidity like a Burgundy, so alive, so fresh, so light, translucent color, stunning, Wow!
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle, during the encore. Lots of structure, farmyard funk at the beginning, like the best Burgs we had today but with more density, deeper color, so it must be Rhone North. Acidity and freshness here is top as well. No sign of oxidation. Another wow wine in this encore.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Bottle served during the encore. My good lord. The third triple digit wine in this encore servings and a wine for which you can buy a small car when you see the price today. TN: A nose to die for, Have you seen anything like this... There are lemon elements, then orchard fruit, fresh, but rich, lots of ripeness but lots of cooler elements as well. A cooler vineyard in a warmer vintage? Among the best white wines I ever had.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Bottle served during the encore. Richer than the 1997 d'Auvenay Chevalier next to it. Feels younger. Fresh crisp, I was guessing another Chevalier. So composed and so discrete, pure lemon curd, pop corn, elegant, all you wish for in a white Burg, so present, so elegant, as good as it gets. Crazy performance for a Village level wine. Pierre Morey made all the Leflaive wines before he started on his own.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Aperitiv wine. From MAG. This felt more like a BdB Champagne today with lots of lemon elements and a discrete buttery elements. Very elegant, very precise, lemon oil, quite lean and tight. The is a little spice thought that may point to Pinot said an MW and Champagne expert on the table - they were right.

Pirate bottle. Funky nose, complex, earthy, green herbaceous bell pepper CabFranc style. Very green, strict but less tannic than the others. Love this one.

Pirate bottle. Fully oxidized.

Pirate bottle. This smelled very Italian, high tannins, as drying as it gets on the finish. More like a Barolo. Too tannic. Meh!. Aroma 94, Palate 85

Pirate bottle. Another tannic wine, good aromas though, a bit riper than the Thorevilos next to it. Some bakery notes, high acidity, high tannins.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Green and tannic, rich and ripe, commanding masculine tannins, but nice aroma with bakery, pine. Dry finish.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Tannic and rich wine also here, more ripeness, more whole cluster, dry tannins but less dense/pushed. The RSVs did not show as well as the Richebourgs for once.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Dark cherry and sour cherry aromas. Rich and tannic, finishing drying. Deduct points for tannins, precise otherwise. The RSVs did not show as well as the Richebourgs in this tasting.

Nose here is riper, softer, more advanced but not oxidative, but clearly with some overripe more strawberry marmalade, deducted some points for this feature
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich, ripe, pine apple, exotic, cream, oak, spices, rich but enough acidity here, still, feels like a ripe Chard.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow wine here, lots of lemon aromas, rich, herbs, match stick, awesome aromas. Very nice, generous palate but good acidity, chiseled. In the as good as it gets category.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
On the ripe side with pina colada aromas, too rich for me, too ripe. Much more advanced the outer worldly Choche and Boillot next to it.

Wow, so deep and complex, so precise, lemon curd, flinty elements. Elegant and precise palate. As good as it gets. Wow wine!

Ripe nose, lovely, bakery, ginger bread notes. The palate is really dense with some drying tannins that give a few points deduction.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Nose of strawberry, cool elements as well, precise, cool, impressive. Clear and light color, a bit to watery almost but good overall.
Post a Comment / 1 person found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich and ripe, plum, rum pot, too ripe, sweet palate but drying finish. This is past its prime.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A touch of bell pepper, good ripeness though as well from the fruit. Rich, ripe strawberry marmalade Lots of whole cluster, slightly unbalanced. Drink up.

Pirate bottle. From MAG. Nose of white chocolate and red fruit, spices. So sweet and succulent on the palate, very generous. Quite unique, different to the Burgs but good in its own right.

Cloudy light color, browning rims. The nose is so aromatic here as well, spectacular, stays fresher despite its age. Special.

Pirate bottle. Nose of chocolate cake, chef pastry with cupcake, lots of acidity as well to support the ripeness, stays elegant on the palate. No idea what this is, but it is good.

Pirate bottle. Dark chocolate here as well in the nose, pastry cake, good acidity, elegant yet sweet. Generous, good showing like the Kistler next to it.

Holy cow, what a nose! Complex aromas of lemon curd, pop corn, traditional rich proportions yet classic old Burg with fresh, mineralic finish. Top.

Richer than the Auvenay Criots next to it. More sweet spices, bready, a bit too plush for a higher score, but still very good.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Lighter on the palate, yet very ripe as well, going towards the pine apple spectrum, but still in check, very good, rich finish yet good acidity, if a rich wine can be good than this is an example.

Nose of gingerbread, cinnamon spice, ripen fruit, good and elegant, a bit thin for a higher score.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, this was really nice. Whole cluster, plum, cola, rich, ripe, deep and complex. Stays fresh on the palate despite the ripeness. Gros Frere et Soeur can be a hit or miss producer. This was a hit.

Wow, great wine in the glass here as well. More whole cluster, lots of sweetness, very good, as good as it gets, a bit lighter than the Grand Echs in which flight this was smuggled in. Amanzing what Madame can do with a village level wine...

The nose here was bready with Maggi, late in the game, fully tertiary. Still decent to drink but needs to be consumed now.

Great wine here. Soft, rich, cinnamon, gingerbread, a bit of a Rayas style, lots of sweetness, lighter than the others in this stellar Drouhin a flight but with more aroma. Excellent.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Pirate bottle. This was deeper with more more pine tree, darker pitched, masculine, sweet and dark at the same time. Impressive. The Drouhin flight was really excellent across the board in this tasting.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Elegant, precise, long, classic, very good and very aromatic, good fruit sweetness as well, cola on the finish. Very fine, very precise. The Drouhin flight was really excellent across the board.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Slight pruny, overripe, a bit too much for me, rich, dark black cherry. It was the group’s favorite, usually also my favourite wine of the stable, but not in this line up. The host mentioned that is usually the best wine in the Drouhin stable.

Nose of pear, cider, a bit "off message" for a Grand Cru white Burg, but very good nevertheless, then pine apple on the finish. Ripe but racey enough. Drink up. Strangely, the Chevalier flight did not do nearly as well as anticipated.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Wow, fresh, lemon rind, crisp, rich, mineralic, ripe and racy at the same time. A very grand white Burg.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Very dark yellow, very sweet, drinkable but getting oxidative. Late, drink up. Strangely, the Chevalier flight did not do nearly as well as anticipated.

Hmm, aromatics towards chinese candy, with cinnamon, vanilla, Asian spice box, orange rind. Different than what you would expect from a Chevalier but still ok. Strange, the Chevalier flight did not do nearly as well as expected.

Soft palate here with cola, rich fruit, sweet spice. Impressive overall, elegant and fragrant.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
This was darker, deeper pitched, pine, forest floor, elegant, refined, citrus elements as well, cooler sight. Light, really nice.

Dark fruit, precise, brooding, lots of reserve, very impressive, masculine, opened up with air and displayed amazing complexity.

Nose of sweet spices, rich and ripe almost Grenache sweetness and spices intermixed. Beautiful.

Wow, absolutely top as well, more dry extract, fresh, beautiful and aristocratic, this is really held up in the glass and was on par with the best.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich fruit here with cola, beautiful, soft, elegant, aromatic, nice and polished. Did not hold up for long in the glass, drink up.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich and ripe, spice box, great structure too despite its light appearance, slightly dry tannins on the finish but very aromatic and it held up well in the glass.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Rich and ripe, caramel, beautiful aromas, ripe apple, apple cider, racier htan the other in this flight with pear as well. Really generous, ripe in a good way. Absolutely top.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Fresh, structured rich, yet with appropriate dry extract. Lemon curd and pop corn finish, second favorite of group, also in the as good as it gets category.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
A touch fresher than the others in this to die for flight. Aromas of apple cider, then lemon curd, so much freshness and acidity, A crisp and precise wow wine.
Post a Comment / Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Report Issue
Ok, when you thought this flight could not get any better, this perfect wine came around. Richer, riper but with lots of minerals. This was the favorite of group, rich ripe plush. DRC’s Chard reputation was rescued by its bottle. May be a cooler vintage helped a wine that I usually find too late picked/nutty in its aroma profile.

Encore wine at the end. Non blind, an addition for the lamb rack main dish. Elegant, precise, restraint and very aromatic claret, lighter than the Grand Vin from a day before (no surprise) and really an excellent food wine today. 95+

Encore bottle at the end. Nose of sour cherry, really funky, incredible structure, a little drying, lots of horse saddle, residual sweetness, sugar molasses. Good, but drink up.

Encore bottle at the end. Fully tertiary nose with dark fruit and farmyard. End of life but still with enough energy. Lovely, polished palate.

Encore bottle at the end. Cloudy color. Wow nose here right of the bat with sour cherry, cured meat, sweet spices. Another of these as good as it gets wine.

Dessert wine. Amazing Nose here with all the glorious petrol, white flowers, lemon and mineral aromas. On the Palate much less sweet that you would expect from an Auslese. More like a Spatlese or even Kabinett. Extremely precise and long. I like this level of “not so sweet” Rieslings much better than the BA/TBA styles. Awesome showing

Dessert wine with the Cheese. Hmm, nose like a Grapa, or another 40% spirit, strange. Cabbage, wax. Searing acidity on the palate with lots of funk, alcohol lower than expected from what the nose suggested. A true “wine geek wine” where you need a PhD degree to understand it. Don't know how to rate this. 87?
