Complex and flashy showing its potential. Calcaire, oyster and honey on the nose. The palette was dominated by intense saline notes that masked the fruit. This wine was so savory… pure umami… the texture was the highlight for me. Spherical, broad and luscious. Sooo much pressure and power building behind the damn but years until it bursts. Gives you a glimpse at its greatness, but years from its prime. 93++

Opened this today; my first ever Raveneau. Savoury, sea salt, oyster shell notes. Quite dense and stone fruits. Agree this is Grand Cru level. Give this 1-2 hr air if you open now. Enjoyed this! 95/96

France Trip: Paris, Champagne, Burgundy; 9/3/2023-9/17/2023 (Paris, Champagne, Burgundy): Pale gold color. Split bottle between the four of us at Bistrot des Grand Crus. Quite exquisite on the nose of mixed stone and minerals, Asian seaweed, chamomile, beeswax, preserved lemon, and shades of lilies. The palate is brilliant, somewhat reclusive at first then just keeps building; saline, slate, lemon with a touch of stone fruit. Wow, this is like the taste of the ocean, so much salinity, dense, tons of chalk, lemon, apple, and peach, lime zest, intense and powerful.

Pure class from Raveneau. Still much too young, especially since it's a MDT, but this was still showing well. Typical Raveneau nose of oyster and sea shell, followed by a bit more acacia honey, peach and nectarine than what I'm used to. With air, more and more lemon curd, yellow apple, vanilla powder, nectar and mashed pear. A bit broader than I had expected from 17 but still incredibly well balanced and elegant.

Raveneau's MdT is surprisingly accessible for this wine, all class with a gorgeous nose of spearmint, yellow fruit, and iodine. Regal palate, lithe and crisp and everything you want but enough structure to evolve. Very good.

Raveneau is usually more about Raveneau than about Chablis, but this wine was a perfect example of MdT with sea salt and crushed sea shell aromas and flavors in a body that had richness but was also light and lively. Still plenty of room for development here. Pas mal du tout for less than 63 euros, tax and tip included.
Hard to beat MDT and almost impossible to beat Raveneau in Chablis. medium golden straw color, medium bodied with bright acidity. Beautiful Chablis salinity on the nose and palate. Crushed rock and ripe orchard fruit. Good weight from the oak. Excellent mouthfeel and a lengthy finish. Not sure how MDT is not a grand cru. Highest recommendation but this wine has gone through the roof on price. Look for same vineyard from other capable vignerons.

2022 Excellent Burgundy Adventure; 10/31/2022-11/6/2022 (Burgundy): Medium expressive nose displaying pure delicate white fruit with a hint of yellow, apple, pear, lemon curd, strong mint, honeysuckle, cool mountain stream, saline and limestone. Surprisingly delicate palate, subtle pure white fruit, cool, pure, bright acidity, medium mineral, and a medium long white fruit driven finish with strong mint at the end. This is surprisingly light and delicate. With air, it remains delicate. Perhaps it needs a few more years of cellaring to gain weight but I am not certain.

It is rich but precise Chablis, with intense citrus fruits and layers of mineral infused flavours. There are spearmint and aniseed notes and It is full and heady, but has containment and there’s so much salinity to the long finish.

A Wonderful Retirement Dinner Celebration (Los Olivos, CA): Desperately needed a decant. Notes of white orchard fruit and some citrus but really came across as sound asleep, conveying an almost diluted sensation I cannot imagine truly represents the wine's potential.

Popped and decanted for ~1+ hrs prior to serving. Light/pale-yellow... Faint scents of white-flowers/peach, more of lemons/citrus. Quite linear on the palate, with a good streak of minerality, acidity and tension. Expecting this to fill/flesh out over time with more cellar age.

For a Raveneau MdT this is relatively accessible at this early juncture. There are notes of white peach, lemon, aniseed and mint. It is full and textural, with great volume and a finish that is loaded with iodine. Ample acidity is buried just below the flesh.

Burgundy, Day 4 (Beaune, France): At Le Bistro de L'Hôtel. One of the best young Raveneaus I've had in a while. The nose shows a moderate citrus tone, but also a lovely amount of salinity. The palate is where this wine excels for me, with a blend of sappy fruit and the high acids of the vintage. That tension works perfectly here.

Classic Raveneau. Relatively open with notes of tell tale oysershell, stony fruit, citrus, very precise style. Long time to go

Pale; a reductive note, half opens, focused ‘minerality’; steely, tight, penetrating intensity; nervosity & breed time extended finish. Needs five years.

Bottles drunk with lunch or dinner while in Burgundy; 2/10/2020-2/14/2020 (Burgundy): A delicious, expressive and true-to-terroir young MdT. So much decadent white orchard fruit with a pronounced core of minerality and zest. Nervous spine of acidity throughout. Delicious now and should age for two decades. 93-95+

A robust but well balanced MDT with depth of fruit but also a sufficiently strong acid spine to provide structure. Should age well.
