PnP; open several hours. Light red with brown/orange tinge. Vosne spice, red berries, light earth tones on nose. Mature, medium to light fruit weight with really nice balance of acidity and fading tannins. Bright, persistent finish. Paired well with pan seared tuna and risotto. Probably at peak for a few more years.

SLDS December 21: Autumn leaves, meat, roses and smoke. Elegant and balanced on the palate, in a really lovely spot for drinking now with the right mix of savoury and sweet. Holding its shape through the tannins but feels like its ready to go.

Opened at 4 to taste and first glass poured at 7 and drunk over the next 4-5 hours. Deep garnet colour with some bricking at the edges. Wide open from the beginning, very ripe cherries on the nose. Rich, full and savoury on the palate and very concentrated but would have preferred a bit more acidity and energy. Label says 14% alcohol and while not overripe its a big wine, but drinking well and fully mature.

Medium garnet, amber hue. Earthy nose with some sweet bakery spices. Fully mature palate with polished tannins and tertiary notes. Nice and tame, would need a bit more tension for a higher score.

92+to 93. As we know there are no great wines just great bottles. If tonight's wasn't great it was darn close, and got better as the night wore on. It was opened 5 hours earlier but sealed back up so technically open for about 3 1/2 hrs. My suggestion therefore would be about a 3 hour decant if the bottle is pristine. Then again, who knows until it's open.
Spices and sous bois dominate with some elegant raspberry and violets. Very nice, and with a long finish. If there's a nit, it isn't the most complex GC out there, but I thought it was delicious as did the others in the group.

Perhaps this bottle wasn't in great condition but it was well stored and purchased from a good source. In any case I didn't really enjoy it. A bit of that "rusty nail" I get from RBs that are past their prime. Maybe this should have been drunk a few years ago. Then again 2001 was not initially considered a top vintage with longevity, so it's not terribly surprising.

HDH Burgundy Auction (Chicago, IL): The nose on this is quite brilliant, with some lovely tart red fruit on the nose. Lighter on the palate, with lots of the same tart red fruit character. Not too dense or heavy, but very nice acidity and freshness. Touch of earth as well.

Wine is in its middle age. Good fruit but solid tertiary flavors. Great red and black fruits, earth, light green bitters, good tannic structure, great acidity and nice finish. Needs a solid 1+ hr open. Drink within next 5 yrs.

1 hr decant/double then to restaurant, drunk over several hours. This is in a perfect spot. The nose to die for, so fragrant, the opening decant the scents just soared from the bottle with sweet older fruit. The palate was the intense yet light body of great pinot. Can't say enough.

Gregg's Belated Birthday (Formento's - Chicago IL): Fully mature red fruit with Vosne-styled spice. Moderate length and intensity, this is starting to show advanced maturity on finish, even ever-so-slightly drying. Best now.

HDH Burgundy Auction; 4/1/2016-4/2/2016 (Chicago, IL): A little bit stinky and reduced, but that does blow off with some vigorous swirling, to show a bit of earth and sweet red berries. The palate shows a bit of smoky earth, but it isn't too rich and concentrated. A nice touch of spice on the nose and palate as well -- unfortunately it does come across as a little bit muddy. Still, a good bottle, if not as superlative as my other experiences with the house.

Casual (Mostly) Burg Dinner with Friends (Bistro Campagne - Chicago, IL): Open 30 minutes before serving, served alongside HN 2001 Malconsorts and Beaumonts. This was forward, lush and very pleasurable from the start. it stayed at the same level throughout the evening, providing lots of pleasure. Good balance of ripe fruit, good spice and background structure that's well integrated. I preferred the Malconsorts tonight, particularly as it unfolded and developed in glass, but certainly understand others preferring this CV tonight.
Nebbiolo & Pinot (Bar Corvo, Brooklyn): Quite nice. Extraordinarily potent, focused raspberry fruit--probably the purest helping of raspberries I've ever had in a wine glass. Very refreshing acidity and a zesty, Pop Rocks texture. A little spice and florals. Impressive flavor:weight ratio. Sexy and polished enough to delight non-Burgophiles like me; alongside the typicity and class that Pinot hounds look for.

Gorgeously pure, perfectly ripe raspberry fruit from the word go, the kind of pure red fruit you only get in pinot. There are some subtle hints of dark clovey spice and with air, and in a bigger glass, it shows a little darker and more herbal and meaty. Medium-bodied, round and light and airy with superfine tannins that provide just enough grip on the back end, you hardly feel this is there until it's gone, where the length is excellent.
A companion describes this as a modern burg, and he's right in that it's clean as a whistle and a little slick texturally (it's not traditional in the Gouges or Lafarge sense), but whatever oak this saw is invisible and this is relatively unextracted as far as grand crus are concerned. Not a ton of structure here, I don't see this as needing much more bottle age, although presumably it will get more tertiary and continue to drink well for many years.

Probably caught a couple of years early, but showing well now. Wide range aromatically; earthiness dominating. Balance off just slightly on the palate, particularly the finish, but nice overall. Should be a good wine for quite some time.

I really enjoyed this. Expressive nose of red and black fruit, spice, mushrooms and minerals. A lot of flavor on the palate, many elements although some how did not have the depth of the Meo next to it. Still delicious and in a great spot to drink.

The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Clove, Mineral, Cherry, and Rose. It tastes like Cherry, Blackberry, Mineral, Clove, and Rose. The body is Light/Medium. The wine has Silky texture. The wine finishes Medium.
Tasted side by side with a Meo CV 06 and you'd never think they were from the same plot. This has much more finesse and balance both in flavors and texture. The 5 years probably makes a difference. Very nice bottle.

Wow! The powerful nose of spice and funky pinot aromas (in a good way) jumps out of the glass. Spicy deep red fruits (but not "fruity") and earthy on the palate. Extremely long with mild tannins at this point. Very smooth now, in a year or two this will be liquid silk. Spectacular.
