Maybe I needed a year, or maybe this bottle was stored better, but we liked this a lot, especially compared to the bottle drunk a year ago. Keenly balanced big fruit, high alcohol, high acid fruit bomb with lots of spice, earth, tobacco.

I thought it was good, but lacked some of the layered complexity of some of the other single vineyard Turley’s. Just big fruit and big acidity, almost too much acidity.

The last of the single vineyard Turleys in my cellar. My taste has morphed toward wines with more finesse and subtlety as opposed to those with high alcohol, upfront fruit, and concentration such as the Turley style. Full bodied and jammy and somewhat hot (15.9 ABV), it is a fun cocktail wine but less of a food wine. Somewhat in balance, but could use more acidity. Peppery and fruity, lots of blackberry and raspberry jam. My Zinfandel preference is a Ridge Lytton or Geyserville with 5-10 years of bottle age. Cheers!

Tasted blind. Guessed nero d’avola (first choice) or Turley zinfandel (second choice). If you like this wine, check out the wines of the Sicilian producer Gulfi.
I’ve always loved Turley zinfandel. For me it’s in a class of its own. This wine combines tangy raspberry with prunes and cooked/canned fruit like peaches. That doesn’t sound so special but it tastes delicious to me. You can find other flavors but this wine is all about the fruit.

A bunch of us from the office went to a local BYOB for lunch. Brought this bottle and a Pesenti of the same vintage. Red fruit on the nose, the palate was red berries, strawberry, currents with a hint of spice leading to a nice finish. This was my preferred wine.

Beautiful contrast between mellowing tannins, oak, herbs, and bright fresh acidity. Not light on the alcohol but it is very well integrated with no sign of heat. A distinct tarragon note with cherries! This wine is at an excellent stage right now and should hold for a few years.

Power and refinement coalesce in this unique expression of zin, which packs in smoothness and bottomless depth. Overcomes the challenges of the vintage with ease, bursting out of the gate with fig, loganberry, and bread pudding with a beam of sour cherry underpinned by wet earth. In a great spot with an hour decant.

Beautiful balance of red fruit, cranberry and savory qualities, without the over-the-top syrupy jamminess that Zins can exhibit. This is on the feminine side of the spectrum, already in a great place but still with plenty of runway.

Just love Ueberroth vineyard zin by Turkey; one if not my favorite zin (Dusi a close second). Briary fruity and very smooth. For my palate, at least with this bottle, it’s drinking perfectly now.

One of the lighter Zins from Turley. Raspberry, cranberry , cherry. Easy drinker. Decanted for an hour but it probably wasn't necessary. Drink in the next 2-3 tears.
There has been some bottle variation of this wine. This one was not as profound as the last couple. Ruby, with no brown edges, but somewhat translucent. Very viscous, lots of glycerine. The nose has medium intensity, with prominent acetic notes combined with strawberry-raspberry, just the style we like. Good fruit on the palate, very round, not a concentrated fruit bomb. Medium-bodied but with finesse, lighter than the prior bottles. A bit hot on the finish, medium length. I drink all my zins within two years from when they arrive. This is the last of my 2017s...time to start on the 2018s! Ric
There has been some bottle variation of this wine but this one was perfect, and very nearly a perfect wine! Garnet, with no brown edges, but somewhat translucent. Very viscous, lots of glycerine. The nose is immediately very pronounced, with prominent acetic notes combined with strawberry-raspberry that make it, to my taste, a perfect zin. Loads of fruit on the palate, but still very round, not a concentrated fruit bomb. Full-bodied but with finesse, not too heavy or coarse. A bit hot on the finish, but very long. As good as zinfandel gets, for my taste. I drink all my zins within two years from when they arrive. This is the last of my 2017s...time to start on the 2018s! Ric
This was a lighter color, very pronounced nose of red fruits, some of the "briary" acetic nose we like in a zin. Lots of fruit, jammy, somewhat hot, very long aftertaste. This is the style of zin we prefer, as opposed to the bigger, concentrated, more tannic style. We like to drink zins in the first couple of years after release, for the fresh upfront fruit. This and Dusi are our favorite Turleys. Ric

I am an Uberroth fan boy and its my fav Turley vineyard. But this 2017 was a bit lighter than previous vintages. Enjoyable enough with nice strawberry fruit but not quite the fireworks I often associate with this vineyard. I have another 2017 I think and plenty of 2018s.

Blackberry and strawberry on the nose. On the palate, plum, pomegranate, and black and red berry fruit, with notes of bramble and orange peel on the medium finish, with strong acidity and a touch of alcoholic heat. This was a good value at a little over $50.
Tasted with 2018 Martinelli Jackass Hill, which we liked just a shade better. Usually, when one goes up to Ueberroth from a Rattlesnake Ridge the score goes up too, but not so with this vintage, this one, our second bottle of the night trails by a point. The fruit is more restrained/subdued than the Napa fruit. Maybe too hot in Paso for this vintage? It was good, smooth red zin fruit with typical Turley barrel treatment/spice but lacking just a shade in power and fruit compared to the earlier bottle tonight. Splitting hairs here for sure.

Fruit is sourced from a vineyard planted in 1885. Aged for 15 months in new (20%) and used (80%) barriques made from French (80%) and American (20%) oak. Fermented spontaneously with indigenous yeasts. 15,9% alcohol. Tasted blind.
Luminous, deep and moderately translucent garnet color. Very rich, open and expressive nose with fragrant aromas of ripe black raspberries, juicy boysenberries and fresh brambles, some sweet exotic spice, a little bit of sunny plummy fruit, light floral notes, a hint of strawberry jam and a lifted touch of nail polish VA. The alcohol shows a little. The wine is very ripe, somewhat warm and very expressive on the palate with a medium-to-moderately full body and intense flavors of ripe boysenberries, some plummy tones, a little bit of toasty oak spice, light brambly notes of blackberries, a hint of chocolatey oak and a candied touch of primary fruit reminding me of Bassett's wine gums. The acidity feels relatively high - surprisingly high for such a ripe wine - whereas the medium-minus tannins come across as ripe as quite gentle. The finish is long, powerful and somewhat warm with vibrant, ripe flavors of sweet boysenberries and strawberry jam, some plummy notes, a little bit of mocha oak, light toasty wood tones and a hint of exotic spice.
A wonderfully expressive, characterful and balanced effort. The alcohol shows a little, but the intensity of the fruit carries the warmth surprisingly well, keeping it from coming across as too overwhelming. Although the wine feels a bit oaky, somewhat warm and has a slight crowdpleaser edge to it, it has enough intensity, character and sense of balance not to feel overdone. All in all, a very seductive Zinfandel and easily among the better Zins I've tasted. Perhaps a bit pricey for the quality at $50, but not overtly so. I guessed Californian Zinfandel that was 5 years old tops, and wasn't wrong.
I am, generally, not a Zinfandel drinker, but I must say, I like this. In fact I like nearly everything that Turley makes....Turley's wines are consistently a cut above the wines of other Zinfandel producers. This is the best Zin I've had in several years. 15.9% alcohol, but it hides its heat well. Rich, plummy, with lots of graham cracker at the rear. Port-like, which isn't surprising, given the alcohol content.
My first of this '17 vineyard, which is one of my yearly favs from Turley. Has a bit more of the classic Ueberroth feel to it this year but the finish remains just a tad short. The rest of it is quite nice, gentle spicebox and acidity to go with the great Ueberroth fruit. Nice wine!

Perhaps the best zin I've ever had, even slightly more than 2018 Dusi! Much darker and more opaque than the Dusi. Powerful sweet red and black fruit aromas, easily smelled from a few feet away. Loads of fruit on the palate, slight acetic note which I love in a zin. Full-bodied and fresh, plenty of "zing", just as I like a young zin. I don't age these but love to drink them within 1-2 years of release. I got away from Turleys for several years, thought they became to closed and tannic, but they're back to the open fruity style I much prefer. Ric
(Tasting at the Templeton winery) Best of tasting, and always one of our favorite Turleys. So often the most graceful swan in the portfolio, this one is true to form. Blackberry liqueur, Asian spices, torn apricot and bay leaf. Cries out for Thanksgiving turkey. Will reward cellaring. Outstanding! Drink 2022 to 2035.
Spicy nose with black fig notes. Deep red fruits, pomegranate and blood orange flavors. Juicy, black pepper on the back end. Rich, smooth, long finish.
Very fruity through and through - prunes and plum skin. Some spiciness and a little toasted oak on the palette. Very long finish. (I didn't finish the bottle on day 1. The wine seemed to tame itself and was even better on day 2 for my taste).
15.9% abv. Medium-dark ruby, expressive aromatics. Raspberry, dark cherry, pomegranate, blood orange complete a lush, complex and very tasty flavor profile. Excellent depth, length and mouthfeel. Rich, luscious, but bright, high-toned and light on its feet. Delicious now and will no doubt get even better over the next several years. A treat.
First thing I got was lots of really ripe raspberry with some high acid. About an hour after opening, the jamminess mellowed out a bit, still some acid and then some pepper came along. Liked 2016 better, but still yummy!

Purchased from ASA in Los Altos. Decanted for about 45 minutes and chilled slightly (cellar temperature). Drying tannins and strong acidity, yet smooth and ready to drink after decanting. And then after an hour, wow! Everything comes together and the tannins, acidity, and fruit are balanced perfectly. Cedar and leather aromas, raspberry and mildly sweet cigar on the palate. Gorgeous.

PnP. Dark red fruits, prunes, black pepper, and a hint of orange rind. Drinking incredibly well right now with tannins in a great spot. Despite the 15.9% ABV, didn't feel hot at all. Really nice Turley from an historic Paso vineyard. Should continue to evolve and improve for the next 2-3 years.
Retail $80 (wine club only). There are times in your life that you realize that you are truly blessed. For me, witnessing the birth of both of my children, being able to ride the great roads of France, surviving a health scare a decade ago (almost) that claims many. While tasting this wine might not reach that lofty plateau, it is certainly among the best Zinfandels I have tasted in recent memory. Fruity, concentrated, rich, deep, whoa. Redberry fruit, spice, tartness, balance. Whoa. While this is incredibly fruity, it is also considerably complex. Whoa. That makes three whoas. Yeah, you get the picture. thedrunkencyclist.com
Pale purple color with slow legs. A bit green on the nose with aromas of tea, bell pepper and red cassis. Sour cherry and jam on the palate. Long leathery finish. Should get better with another year or two in the bottle.
2017 Turley Ueberroth Vineyard is insanely good in it's youth. It is black and red fruited, perfumed, and peppery with a hint of mild reduction that blows off with time in the glass. Delectable bramble fruit is paired with high acidity and finely grained tannins. Terrific energy.
Day 2: Much more perfumed red fruits. Licorice on the finish. The finely grained tannins are much better integrated. Excited about popping another in 2-3 years.

Faux passion fruit and guava candy you get at the end of a meal at a Chinese restaurant. Young and tannic. Easily one of my favorite Turley vineyards.

Really fantastic if slightly over the top acidity. Previous reviews by “huevosconvino” and “jmgranger” are spot on.

Spicy, complex, full bodied, full throttle Turley. Can use some cellar time.
