  • Worth decanting nd then shows plenty of vibrant fruit. But also worth keeping at cellar temperature ( not necessarily room temperature ) since the freshness and acidity make this an ideal wine with pasta, summer vegetables etc.

  • Consumed over 2 days (stored in Somm du Vin), note from day 2. Appearance: Clear, medium garnet. Nose: Clean, medium+ intensity with aromas of dried herbs, ripe raspberry patch, sour cherry, and rose bush - the dynamics between the green herbal and lush fruit and flowery notes is captivating. Palate: Dry, medium+ acid, medium tannin, medium body, medium+ intensity, and 14.5% abv with flavors of spicy red fruit, tomato leaf, and herbs with a medium+ finish. Compared to day 1 this has blossomed much more fleshed out and giving on day 2. Needs a long decant if opening today, likely 2-3 years from peak and should drink well for 3-5 after that. Wonderful wine.

This is my first time sitting down and concentrating on a Nerello Mascalese dominated blend from Sicily's Etna Rosso DOC - I need to try more.

  • Bright cherries and strawberries dominate the nose, with hints of smoke and mineral. Nice strawberry, floral, and earthy notes on the palate, with firm tannins and good acidity. This should age gracefully for at least a decade, possibly two. Lots of potential here…

  • GFWETZEL’s tasting note nailed it. On opening, it was quite stark, backward on the fruit, and a tarry note more noticeable. It developed within 30 minutes, and when we finished it 2 hours later, it was much more integrated and balanced, with excellent fruit. The alcohol never stood out. A lovely wine, just very young, and will need more time to see its best.

  • Boys Night at 67 PM (67 Pall Mall, London): Young and needs time to develop a charm. One can decant this endlessly and very little will change at this stage. Impressive density of fruit here, had a cool climate feel on the fruit, well managed oak use ( felt like old oak). Cheery nose here, soft spice and a floral finish. Good and well made wine just very very young. Patience. 89-90 for now.

  • This tasting comes after 1 hour in a decanter. Right out of the bottle, there was tar on the nose and some biting tannins. But after 1 hour, those had dissipated. The color is a medium+ ruby red. The nose has cherries, figs, and some floral notes. The palate has Bing cherries, orange peel, and raisins. The body is medium with some tight tannins (but not too prominent). The acid is balanced with the fruit. There is a long finish. Quite young yet. This wine definitely has more character than the regular Etna Rosso from Terre Nere, but will need more years to know if it’s worth the premium. Alcohol 14.5%.

  • PnP, good structure, lots of minerality (from old vines), and a reasonable amount of tanin that still needs to be resolved. It was down in no time, so I was unable to track its progress. Approachable, but I shall try my next bottle in 2023

  • A real powerhouse of an Etna Rosso, and really good! Dark cherries, leather, incense, roses, mint, plum and smoky minerality. The alcohol brings forth the flavour and adds a little heat, but not overly so. High acidity and robust tannins, this will probably age well. Still somewhat cool feeling to the fruits convincing wine, both for Etna as a region of quality and for Terre Nere.

  • Tenuta delle Terre Nere with Marco de Grazia (Zoom!): The darkest so far. Reduced nose again. Spicy, tangy (high acid), long. More silky tannins. Probably my favourite so far (and Marco de Grazia notes that it's the most bold and forward of the three reds) .

  • The home vineyard for the winery. Three wines are produced from here. Cherry fruit on the nose, smells, again, like Barolo, Rounder and fuller on the palate. But still with tons of structure. Erin notes that it smells great.

  • Great nose. It’s that old vines tiny berry feeling - bright and crisp, potent and delicious - red cherry, wild berries, nice spices and florals or something. Hint of fruitcake. Bright acids and lively fruit. Spicy and perfumed. Tight acid and young but fine tannins. Finish is dusty and a bit bitter. Nose - 5.5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je me Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 16/20.

  • The nose showed a zesty and spicy mix of wild berries and herbs, moist earth, and undergrowth. On the palate, silky textures gave way to saturating dark red fruits, as spice and wild herbal tones developed. Zesty acids battled fine grain tannin and earth-borne mineral tones throughout. The finish was long with a twang of zesty acids, hints of citrus and spice. It was was a bit dying but there’s great depth here and a good chance that time will balance out it’s structure.

  • 2017, Calderara Sottana Etna Rosso D.O.C, Tenuta delle Terre Nere, Ätna, Sizilien, Italien (Nerello Mascalese und Nerello Cappuccio aus Lagen auf 600-700 M.ü.M. in der Gemeinde Randazzo, 50 bis 100jährige Reben, sehr steinige Böden). Helles Rubin. Grosses Nerello Mascalese-Kino. Jetzt bis 2030. 19 vvPunkte (94/100). vvWine.ch
