  • Barely legal to be drinking this young. So good. Taut. Eucalyptus / bay leaf. Roasted apple wood. Graphite. Betel nut. Minerals. Oak is so beautifully integrated. Dark black fruit. Revisit in 5-10. Want to see the fruit open up some more.

  • Pencil shavings and graphite galore. Decanted for two hours but was absolutely singing after that - such a classic Bordeaux on the nose but addictingly smooth. Drinking this young almost feels criminal but the fruit didn't feel overbearing in any way, I would love to drink this any day of the week.

  • I rarely drink Brodeaux this young. But it is always fun when I do. This was decanted for 7 hours. Holy hell, this wine is insanely great. Best Lynch Bages ever made? Better than 85 and 89, maybe!!! This wine is in perfect harmony already, deep blue fruits, the cab just soars. Graphite, toasty note of oak, just great. Maybe 96 is too low, this could easily get to 99 points in 10-15 years. For this price point, why buy anything else.

  • Not a TN but a question to all of you who know this wine much better than I do.

I'm taking this to a French dinner this evening, and was wondering about decant time?

Some more recent TN's suggest 2 hours, others much longer. There aren't too many recent notes so thats why I'm here.

Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated, cheers...

  • Deep dark red color. Graphite, dark berries and a hint of mint. Consentrated. Minerals. Great balance with lots of power. Long. There are some tannins, but they are quite smooth. This wine is drinking really well already now and will propably age well. Love it 👍

  • I loved the dark black and deep violet fruit, mineral and graphite mid palate, with long grippy finish. Beautiful wine to look at and pour. Long lingering legs. A wine of power and balance. I gave this about five hours of air time before drinking, finished the bottle on the second day. My score reflects the first day, as the wine turned more inward on the next day. I'm surprised that I'm scoring this higher than the same vintage PC which I also loved.

  • Nose: [58°] Wet autumn leaves, damp earth and gentle spiced oak. Deep black fruit with just a touch of purple fruit. Violet aromas with a bit of intensity. Reminds me of the attack of a strong perfume but turned down a lot, where it's finally bearable.

Palate: [58°] Deep black fruits, savory river minerals, silvery graphite, steeped black tea and a spiced oak that has been really softened from being too damp. [60°] With some time, deep earth surfaces more, melding with the fruits and minerals, turning each sip that much darker. The black fruits also develop an even deeper pitch of black fruit goodness.

Attributes: Clear, dark ruby. Dry with medium-plus amounts of fine, chewy tannin. Little sediment already in bottle. Medium to medium-plus body with medium acidity (well integrated if higher). Great finish of at least 24+ seconds.

Thoughts: One of the things I really like about Bordeaux is how much more you get for what you pay for compared to other regions. Intoxicating depth of black fruit, savoriness and minerals. These should be even better with age, allowing for more integration. I won't be able to really speak on the development as this has already got a leg up with a little more than a year. Hope it just keeps getting better. One thing that worries me, is how the wine seemed to wither a bit around the 7 hour mark but maybe that's just hints of it closing down. 96+

Serving notes: Bordeaux glass. Served one glass and emptied bottle into a decanter at cellar temp ~55° and consumed over 7 hours. Recommend serving ~56°-60° with a decant of at least 2 hours at cellar temp if opening now.

  • Needs a lot of decanting 6+ hours and was better the second day. Will last 30+ years. Dark fruits and graphite with some lactic notes. Drank alongside ‘14 and ‘16. This outperformed both right now.

  • Delicious. Polished tannins compliment bright, dense fruits. Blackberry, black cherry, graphite, a touch of herbs and a gorgeous floral component to the nose.

  • Decanter Fine Wine Encounter (The Landmark, London): Polished oak and fruit, a little caramel, toast, sweet spice, blackcurrant, cassis. Palate more reticent, chewy tannins, under this there is good fruit, acid and, for the vintage, alcohol balance. Shows promise in about 10-15 years

  • Medium ruby.

Lovely rich and concentrated nose with well defined black currant, black plum, black cherry, licorice, mint, cedar, graphite.

Incredible palate - amazing depth and concentration. Lovely long finish.

  • Crazy young and closed. Dense blackberry pie and dark fruit on the nose but nothin but tannin on the palate with a nice density. After a 3 hr decant it showed some fruit not much. Day 2 update coming later today.

  • This wine will turn into one of the most amazing wines I have ever had. Right now it is extremely primary but extremely delicious as well. Very dense to the point that right now it might be confused for a great Napa cab in many ways, but in the next 10 years or so this wine will turn into something really unique and special. Since I enjoy Napa so much I rated this wine 96 as of today, but I think it can turn into a 98 pointer later in its life. Great great wine indeed

  • Infanticide of course, but I have been surprise how open many 2018s have been lately so thought we would crack one open as we have a few ... (Decanted 4 hrs and then followed over 24 hours) This was pretty closed and primary at first but after a few hrs in the decanter really showed nice deep dark fruit and cedar/spice. This is a deep, concentrated, uncompromising style of Bordeaux which I love but will take many years (i.e. a couple of decades) to really show its stuff. The densest 2018 Bordeaux I have yet sampled, and yet not the most complex. Interestingly, on day two it fell apart a little on the finish (similar to how a Grand-Puy-Lacoste did for me recently), which is why I didn't score it even higher. Rating: 94+ (lots of potential)

  • Fine Wines SG - 2018 Cabernet BYOB (Praelum Wine Bistro): Deep ruby with purple hue. Closed and tight both on nose and palate, and hardly could taste anything other than astringent tannins. Way too young and needs at least a decade in the bottle

  • I don't know why people have to slaughter their young Bordeaux as they do, but I am always happy to drink it with/for them and give my criticism :-) Here there is nothing to criticize, other than my old wine friend's lack of patience and tendency to love hot, young wines. I don't blame him. The saddest comment I made to him is that this wine will be hitting its stride way after he is gone. The 2018 LB is still fun to drink as it still remains in the juicy state and is in balance. It shows the new LB attention to power as if were a baby Latour, while being playful, serious, and still well anchored in pauillac's graphite and mineral driven vibe. The 2018 vintage is a vintage that is so delicious to drink young, yet such a shame to waste if it becomes as sensational as it seems. HOLD_

  • Nez de viande, fruits noirs mûrs... Très leger fruits rouges, un peu de tannins mûrs, très leger, très decevant pour le pedigree...

  • This needs a long decant right now. Gave it 12 hours, and it was smooth as glass. Putting this away for a few more years!

  • Nose: [56°-58°] Great perfume of red flowers and violets, bright red fruits like fresh cherries and cranberries, fresh red plums, a nice acidity where it makes the fruits smell almost tart (in a good way), damp forest floor and clean bare oak (like the underside of tree bark). [64°] Branches and twigs develop with time.

Palate: [58°] Deep red and black fruit blended with deep earth, moss, soft spice and damp oak. [64°+] Dark minerals with savory graphite, bitter savory tannin and steeped tea lingers pleasantly on the finish.

Attributes: Clear dark ruby. Dry with medium-plus amounts of fine, chewy tannin. Medium to medium-plus body with medium to medium-plus acidity. Good finish of at least 16-18 seconds.

Thoughts: Amazing what decanting can do. Had a taste prior to decanting and this was really energetic and wild, almost rude while showing no restraint. But after about 5 hours, the wine showed what it is really made of. I love the brooding forest aspects here. The fruit is there but it plays more of a support role. The finish I particularly loved with the dark minerals and savory tannin. I don't have even the slightest idea of how this would turn out with years of cellar time but I can only imagine good things (I hope). 96+

Serving notes: Bordeaux glass. Emptied bottle into a decanter at cellar temp ~55° for 5 hours before serving, continued to decant while consumed over another 2.5 hours (total 7.5 hrs). Recommend serving ~64° with a decant of at least 5-6 hours at cellar temp if opening now or cellar for at least 6-8 years.

  • I think that Lynch Bages is sensational in 2018. What a powerful wine with so much energy, power, and pauillac graphite laced within every sip. This is right up there with the sensational 2016 and a solid wine to have in the cellar. HOLD_This is a decade away from being what Bordeaux lovers look for.

  • The 2018 UGCB tasting Amsterdam 6/21/2021 (Amsterdam, Amstel Boathouse): Closed bouquet, power, lots of power, but missing complexity, as Léoville-Barton has, not so impressive.

  • Amsterdam UGCB Tasting (Amstel Boathouse, Amsterdam, NL): This is a rich and velvety Lynch-Bages, clearly displaying the warmth of the vintage in its spicy depth, but it is not playful or charming, it is a bit earthbound in this vintage.

  • I just wanted to try a young Bordeaux before I put the others in long-term storage. It took about 3 hours to open up and pretty good. I Can't wait to revisit this wine in a decade. In the meantime, I have a bottle of 2010 that I don't know if I should open for my birthday my other choices is 2001 Monte Bello or 2011 and 2012 Far Niente cave collection cab. Any suggestions?

  • Deep and dark in color, the wine exudes crème de cassis, blackberry, black cherry liqueur, BBQ smoke, Cuban cigars and a background note of roses. On the palate, you find richness, round, juicy, multi-layered essences of rocks, stones, earth and lusciously textured, ripe, succulent fruits. The wine liberally coats your palate with layer after layer of sweet berries that hang with you for at least 50 seconds. With a decade of aging this will clearly be one of the top vintages of Lynch Bages ever produced! And considering their crack record, that is really saying something. The wine blends 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, 14.1 ABV.

  • Bordeaux 2018 from bottle (Bordeaux and Strasbourg): Tasted blind and somehow I guessed … Lynch Bages (while not guessing so well with the others, 😂). And, by golly, it comes along strong in bottle. The slight austerity of the tannin is gone, replaced by tannic power and edge, but smoother. And you get floral and dark red fruit aromatics, the cassis to be sure from the Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is pleasingly expressive, with a palate of density and excellent length. I get the feeling that this blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot that was aged 18 months in 75% new oak is a younger version of the 1990. A great wine. • Arvi Bordeaux 2018 Arrivage (Dolder Grand, Zurich): Tasting of 2018 Bordeaux in the bottle. A mixed vintage where St. Emilion often ended up over-ripe and cooked while Pomerol seems to have fared better, as did the left bank. Wine of the tasting was Rauzan Ségla, but the Léovilles (Barton and Poyferré), Pichon Lalande and Clinet presented themselves brilliantly as well.

    Tasting note:
First impression: very classic. Multi-dimensional with a basket of mixed berries, herbs, spices and a peppery seasoning. On the palate fresh with plenty of acidity. This appeared to need much more time than St Julien or Margaux cousins. But not sure the tannic structure is quite strong enough given the acidity and also not entirely convinced of the aromatic depth here.

  • N: corky
P: Exotic. Rich. Seems fine. Soft but assured tannins. Lovely broad finish.

  • Blue-black with purple accents, the pure crème de cassis aromas stand out easily. This wine combines power with layers of ready, succulent, dark penetrating fruits. Even though this is probably the densest Lynch Bages I recall tasting, the unique vintage character keeps the wine light on its feet. All this strength and purity is wrapped up nicely with ripe tannins and a long finish. Clearly, 2018 is a contender for the best vintage of Lynch Bages ever produced -- and with their string of hits, that's a real statement! Produced from 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 14.1% alcohol. The picking took place September 18 to October 9 and 65% of the harvest was used to produce the Grand Vin. 96-98 Pts
