  • Dense, brooding, still lots of tannins, very good aromatics though with forest floor, farmyard. Complex, like a Morey Pinot. I liked this a lot. Best after 2028

  • A bit clumsy at this point, somewhat better on day 2.

  • Slow O'd for an hour. Outstanding Beaujolais; soft, supple, and delicious. Paired with grilled salmon and roasted potatoes.

  • Excellent

Note from memory from a couple of nights ago.

From magnum. Not unhappy to have a few more of these in the cellar. Though it expanded a bit with air, I loved it on PnP. Enough character and nose to keep you coming back for more drinking on its own, but also a nice wine for the meal (lentil dish with roasted tomato, some gorgonzola, herbs).

Complex wine maybe showing some slight reduction. Complex nose and body left me struggling to elevate specific elements. There are floral components, cool spices, some crushed herbs, cherry and berries and even some pine forest. Whatever it is, there is real depth here but it floats and had a mineral inflected finish.

Note: I read that this wine is atypical of Fleurie, which has soils that are usually granitic, in that the soil here is largely a manganese-rich clay much like Moulin-à-Vent. The original owner about 100 years ago protested against inclusion in Fleurie, thinking the property should have been in Moulin-à-Vent.

  • My rating today is a full 5 point below my last one. What changed the most? Bottle, food, or me? Not sure. Had this with Blackberry Farm Thanksgiving turkey, and it just didn't pair well. Too much bright cherry, whereas I prefer my Bojo earthier. The white Burgundy before shot the moon for its price. I have a few more bottles and will try to dial my average rating.

  • When writing a note for a wine, I am always try to place context in some way shape or form in my impression – air time, food pairing etc etc. In evaluating this wine, I could easily place this against the nervy 2016, the much better than expected 17, the back in time cool 21 vintage and imply this wine is a fruit bomb and should be avoided at all cost. Yet, I’m an optimist, and from evaluating this in vacuum, this was a very pretty, extremely tasty, fruit forward red. I think I’ll drink my last bottle sooner rather than later.

  • Another solid yet more simple showing for this wine. Fresh but a bit rough around the edges. Clearly a well made wine, possibly going into a bit of a dumb/closed phase right now though.

  • 92/93. Has aromas of earth, minerals, leather, strawberries and raspberries. Its solid medium bodied dense, earthy, barnyardy spherical red, blue and black fruits palate, has got good acidity and medium length. 13% Drink in 2-5 years. Superb value at under 16 Euros. Needs 90 mins aeration. This is rustic.

  • NOSE: Espresso grind. Pruneaux. Rose. Soil. Roasted beet. MOUTH: Hot, sweet, replete with botanical ink. Gorgeous tannins—ripe and pointed. Hasty with inertia. A flowery, eloquent fernet. Quenched stone resides at the base of the action. Ejecta consistent with scented, floral vituperation. Crowberry. Fraise. Twig weed. Bombastic drinkability. Steadfast, parched, plantar structure. Dry. Deliberate. Only remotely saccharide. Startling in command of its own gravity. Incredibly long and piercing in shadow. If I hadn't seen the label, I might have guessed it to be Javernières, or an oriole belting out April promises to collect. Exquisitely cru bo. Active chewing and slurping is a key. This will already be a legend by 2040.

  • Not a fan of this ripe vintage. Didn't decant but found the wine too unctious and fleshy for current drinking. Will hold remaining bottles in hopes that secondary evolution will bring some relief.

  • Left to open up over 2 days this time and it opened up beautifully.

Decent nose of strawberries and striking violets. Nice.

Medium body but long finish, good structure with more acid than expected and some firm tannins. Flavor of strawberries and blackberries, violet and rosemary.

  • For Thanksgiving dinner, along with the 2016 Foillard Cote du Py. Lots going on, black fruit, violets and really striking minerality. Not as easy as the Foillard. A little less forthcoming. Better in a few years.

  • Excellent quality for $20. Unfiltered, with an amazing amount of residue for a 4-year-old wine. Also available in magnums.

  • Did I really only pay $20 for this? Stupidly good QPR and unfortunately I need to mark my last as being consumed so I get surprised when I find it in a decade because this should last that long.

Flowers, herbs, strawberry, red licorice, violets JUST SO MUCH GOING ON. Great mouth feel, balance and intrigue.

WOW great bottle of wine at any price.

  • This is not my favorite vintage, but, oh boy, this is good. The nose is herbal with fruit sneaking up. The more air it gets, the more tannic it becomes. Cherries, blackberries, black pepper, and licorice. Dinner will be a steak salad with blue cheese, and I anticipate this will be excellent with it.

  • From a warmer vintage, but only at 13% alcohol. This was just lovely, dense, dark fruited but light on its feet. It only needed about 20-30 minutes in glass to come around. Great structure and clearly still on the young side but very approachable now. It's on the bigger/denser side for a fleurie, almost Morgon like in some ways. I really wish I had bought more than 3 as the rest sold out quickly. This is in contention for the best Beaujolais that I've had and also one of the best sub $30 reds that I have had in a long time. I highly recommend this. 93-94pts

  • Northern Rhone-lovers take on Beaujolais! Red fruit, hint of strawberry esters and pepper and herb garden notes. Palate reeks granite. Very good despite the hot vintage

  • Has lifted aromas of earth, game, leather, clay, manganese hints and blackberries and cherries. Its medium bodied lovely earthy leathery, gamey, spherical clayey/manganese infused forest fruits palate has impressive depth and length+good unobtrusive tannin. 13%: Amazing value at around 17 Euros. Lay down 5 years+. Needs 3 hrs aeration. An atypical Beaujolais. I think this has the potential to be a 94 with a couple of years laydown. More like a traditional Cotes du Rhone. There are no Beaujolais blue fruits here.

  • Dark red fruit, slightly earthy nose, medium-bodied, and velvety on the palate. This is one of our house favorites for cru Beaujolais wines; versatile and game for almost any dish you throw its way.

  • Popped cork and evaluated after 45 minutes. Dark purple color; trace of cocoa (?) on the nose. Rich, deep black fruit, violets, and dried lavender. Not a typically light fruity gamay, this one has guts to spare. Intense and a bit brooding, it could almost be mistaken for a Cotes du Rhone.

  • My first of 3. Usually, I find this cuvee a bit more stern in its youth so I gave this a good 2 hrs slow ox in my Reidel Burgs & btl to coax the most out of it before dinner. Turns out this is one of the more approachable Tardives I've had. No regrets about the air though is this delivered a lot of extra nuance over dinner. Even in its youth. Very dark ruby color. The nose is a delight with dark fruit, dried flowers & some early & enticing sous-bois. Sips are a balanced, lifted, elegant & sumptuous mix of cherry, blackberry, licorice, spice, mineral and more forest floor notes. What's not to love here! Ready to go now with plenty of air or hold for promising future. 13% alc. Dare I say, Ler Cru Burgundy on the cheap!

  • I'm a fan. With 30 minutes air, the expected dried red berry flavors were complemented with violet, lavender, iron/mineral, and some moist compost. Good now and probably great with several more years, which my rating anticipates.

  • No less savage than last time. This is a really good Bojo, but I understand why others are not fans of 2018.

  • Found this more in balance than the normal cuvee that I tried on release. Dark fruits but not as fiercely tannic as the normal cuvee. Drink it now for the fleshy fruit, but 2018 will never be my favourite vintage in general. Bit simple now and I wish I held off on this to see if it develops any additional depth and complexity.

  • Needs a couple of hours aeration. Has aromas of barnyard, raspberries, iron, minerals, earth, and spice. Its medium bodied spherical multidimensional solid earthy unfruity savoury red and blue fruits palate has superb density, lovely freshness and excellent, freshly fruited finish. 13%. Superb value at 16 Euros. Lay down 3-5 years+.

  • Tasted over two days.

A great first experience and the attractive price point made buying another bottle an easy decision.

Cru Beaujolais, in this crimson and purple flowers, berries, and precious stone hardness style, rules! (Much less so the primarily red fruited, dirty style.) This offering packs juiciness, energy, and lift to spare, in grand fashion, no less. Just a touch of brett adds nuance.

One day, I may find the will power to age Cru Beaujolais in this style. Their early appeal, however, has consistently gotten the better of my previous attempts to do so.

    The total package! Ridiculous QPR!

  • Wow this is a lot better than the regular Clos. Has lovely gamey aromas of barnyard, compost, blackberries, tar, mineral hints and flowers. Its medium to full bodied spherical earthy unfruity blackberry filled palate has impressive depth, freshness and length. 13%. Superb value at 17 Euros. Lay down 5-10 years. This is characterful to put it mildly. It makes my Irouleguy look polite.

  • Over two days.

The bouquet here tantalizes! Crunchy red and dark berries, floral essences, crushed rocks, and mineral ores. As always with this label, very clean, and spectacularly lifted. So...friggin'...pretty!

My preferred style of Cru Beaujolais on the palate, featuring that precious stone hardness, high tension, and strong tanninic substance. On the whole, the palate did not carry the same length as the bouquet, especially on the second day...but for $25...who cares!

I have not yet found a reason to age Cru Beaujolais in this style, primarily because they are stupendous in their youth. 92-93!

  • Very good. Please see Seth Rosenberg's very fine tasting note as my experience was quite similar; only difference was I saved a glass for night 3, as well. Drink or hold. Incredible value, excellent partner to food. highly recommended+

  • I think tunaguy's note nailed it. A year after trying the standard bottling (non-Tardive designate), this is drinking spectacularly well -- and clearly at a higher level. There is a balance that is deceptive, as easy as this is to drink as it is to miss. Nothing about this bottle stands out of place, and while I love the savage tar, animal, blood/iron components that showed up in droves in say the '09, this keeps the same without flaunting them or risking a tumble. Of the seems many '18 Cru Beaujolais wines I've tried, this one is a stand-out, and one that I expect to hold its own or better more so than any other that comes to mind when tried a decade hence. All that balance adds up to a wine that may be consumed like a glass of water, or one can set back and appreciate the layers of brilliant fruit, spice, and minerals that swirl about just beneath the serene surface.

Saveurs de poivre et de fraises avec

  • Dark purple. Mildly perfumed nose. Flavors of dark cherry and blueberries. This wine is still very young, juicy and primary. But it has a dense tannic structure. Needs two years before coming into its drinking window, and then another 10 year from there. One of the finest Beaujolais producers. Excellent value.

  • Very substantial Beaujolais. Earthy, meaty and powerful out of the gate with some strawberry jam on the palate. Way too good to serve with the pizza it accompanied, this would have gone great with beef stew or roast turkey/pheasant.

  • Medium purple color. Offers up blackberry, strawberry, oak and cinnamon. Voluptuous texture, medium-light body, with blackberry on the palate amid earthy notes. Young, assertive, with sinewy tannins, this has room to evolve but is already very pleasing.

  • Tasted after 90 minutes of air. Dark garnet color. Nice floral notes. Fresh. Round red berry fruit balanced by medium / firm tannins. Excellent balance. Excellent persistence on the palate. Some current and raspberry fruit. These Beaujolais wines are excellent values compared to the burgundy wines. Very nice effort.

  • Medium plum color. Gobs of juicy galaxy fruit. Really blossomed about an hour after opening. Sprightly acidity, lovely mouthfeel. A real winner.

  • Consumed over multiple evenings. First night was more red fruit focused than 2nd night where the fruit was more blue/black. Both nights very aromatic with loads of flowers and herbs. Second night tannins softened and enjoyed this more than the first night. Delicious and made for the long haul.

  • Medium purple color. Aromatic but still very primary, with notes of violet pastille, black cherries, blue fruit, also some sweet spices, some herbs, as well as some darker minerality, green pepper. It‘s medium+ bodied, dense and pretty structured in the context of Beaujolais, with medium+ acidity and some medium- tannin that is adding structure. Good length. This would probably need a few more years to be accessible and more complex. Good value though. (91+)

  • What a cool Beaujolais. Right after pulling the cork, I got an overwhelming smell of hot compost—which somehow was pleasant! That very quickly went away with a decant. Gave way to a gravelly nose with almost a baby powder note. Lots of red fruit.

On the palate, medium viscosity, lighter body characteristic of a Fleurie, quick piercing acidity that gives way to some solid tannin. This tells me it could benefit from a couple years in the cellar.

I really hope my wine shop has more of this stuff.

  • PnPed. The first smell was a knockout with bright red fruits/berries, florals and savory herbs and game. But a quick taste showed lots of flavor but quite dense and actually heavy. Showing some roasted aspects and this feels too burly and a bit hot. Obviously the Tardive is made to age so it may need some air to sort itself out. Will try again tomorrow.

Day 2: the promise of the nose and the cuvee's reputation is realized. This has really calmed down and opened up. Dark fruits/berries blue/black/red with blackberry, black currants, black and red cherry, along with dark game and violets, the crunchy herbal Roilette thing. There is a haunting sweetness with some strawberry and sugar in the back. The palate is deeper and darker than I am used to for Roilett but it works well - perfumed and ripe and really grippy. There is a slight roasted note but it isn't dominant. This is silky now the fruit and the savory are well balanced and this has an excellent mouthfeel. Some earth and smoke. The finish is long, just a touch hot, but beautiful black and red fruit, game, herbal. Love it. I'm not sure, since I haven't had the 09 Tardive at all, including on release, but given the notes and my experience with the 09 regular Roilette a few years back, it's possible that this is what the 09 was like on release. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5.5/6, Finish - 5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

  • Certainly brings the funk! A bit out of my comfort zone on this one. Wild, gamey, meaty palate. nice texture with a heavy dose of acids. had with lemony roast chicken. it worked.

  • Quite dark and primary. Dark fruit, cherries, and tobacco on the nose. Lots of tannins and more dark fruit and berry flavors on the palate. Good acidity. This is super young, quite dark, powerful, and tannic. Will need lots of time. I would not have guessed Beaujolais. Very promising, but difficult to rate now. Try again in 3-5 years.

  • Tasted both the regular and Tardive cuvees single blind over two days, bottles simply recorked and refrigerated. Day 1: Similar dark fuchsia maybe slightly more dense, also insanely vibrant. The nose is certainly primary with that Gamay grapiness but there is some complexity of blackberry, herbs, violets, and slate. The palate is a little more full and rich here with attractive purple fruit, stoney minerality, firm yet approachable tannins, and crisp acidity. Superb balance with ideal fruit density and lingering complexity. Initial impression is this wine has the stuffing and density to age beautifully. Day 2: Certainly more rich and savory today with the beautiful dark berry compote balanced by floral and herb nuances, chewy yet ripe tannins, and fresh acidity. Overall Impressions: I am leaning towards this wine being the Tardive because of the darker fruit and higher density and structure. This wine is simply gorgeous and I can only imagine it getting better with the tannins resolving and complexity popping with age. Yes this is the Tardive and the dark savory character is spellbinding. First experience with 2018 Beaujolais and Roilette has knocked it out of the park. The wines are rich yet elegant with fresh acidity, appropriate fruit density, fine tannins, and youthful complexity. I do not get an impression of overripe or sweet fruit at all with these wines. The amount of pleasure derived from the modest Gamay delivered by this estate is staggering.

  • Like WINCHESTER-XI comments.

Big wine, massive tannins, huge fruit with acidity to match. As said, will benefit with age. Good with food.

Rustic, Old World, not for everyone.

  • 2.5 hour decant. Translucent, but with a real blackish tinge. Recalcitrant nose mainly shows gamay-ish cherry fruit. On the palate there’s some real density and structure, despite relatively light extraction. Good delineation of flavors, mainly black cherry and plum, a bit of cola, and some spice, mainly anise and fennel. With time, the finish is increasingly dominated by the tannins. Drinkable with food, but really needs cellar time. A couple of other 2018 bojos have seemed a bit candied to me, but not this one.
