Similar notes to 2 years ago, but not as expressive / intense as last time. Stewed prune and some cedar on the nose. Palate is a bit drying, dusty, with hints of garrigue. Long (-)finish. Served with grilled, butterflied leg of lamb.

Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. Textbook nose of cherry, confit plum, fresh earth, blueberry, garrigue and spice. Richly textured and broadly structured it displays impressive dark fruit concentration on the palate along with notes of roasted meats, orange peel, fig, peach and herbs through the fresh, quite poised finish. Just entering its prime drinking window it'll offer plenty of pleasure over the coming 6-8 years.

Solbær, jordbær og rød pepper i nesa. I munnen kjennes myke røde bær med lav syre og runde taniner. Stod godt til confit de canard, men fløtesausen tok litt brodden av den. Fin i glasset etter maten.

Decanted about 1 hour. Aromas of black fruits (prune). Tannins are well integrated and there is good acidity. Rich mouthfeel and the finish goes on and on. Served with standing rib roast.

Boire d'ici 2026. 92+

Garnet in color. Nose of blackberry and black pepper with hints of leather and cedar. The palate features significant red plum flavors with cherry notes. Black pepper and some clay round out the finish. Medium bodied and smooth. Overall, the wine is good but certainly not special. I agree with other tasters that there are simply better options for the price.

Lukter av fruktige mørke bær, lett krydder og hint av fat. Rund og fruktig i munnen med en litt tørr utgang. Veldig drikkbar allerede, men ser frem til at avslutningen blir mer avslipt med årene.

Full bodied. Leans more fruit forward than barnyard. Drank next to another (cheaper) CdP, a Vacqueyras, and a red Beaumes de Venise. This bottle took WOTN, narrowly edging the BdV.

n: light overall, granite and syrup p: acid front, raspberry dominant and fairly light in body and tannin for a cdp. At this price consider it a cdr with class

This Châteauneuf-du-Pape is relatively old-fashioned in style. It is not super-fruity, and its tannins are fairly crisp and firm, but the wine is still pleasant and refined on the palate. The wine reveals alluring and multidimensional notes of leather, smoke, tobacco, herbs, black pepper, ripe figs, plums, cherries and black berries. The overall character of this wine is dark, even "black". All in all, I can recommend this wine, and it will certainly evolve and improve even more during the years of cellaring.

Initially rather stinging tannins, but they smoothed out in the decanter. Not a lot of fruit on the palate, but lovely earth, pepper and spice with a whiff of plum in the background.

Off the list at the restaurant. It’s very young. Fruit dominant. Well made wine, but it could at least use a few more years. Primary and lots of berries.

The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are slow. It smells like dust and oak. It tastes like oak, alcohol/hot, red currant and dust. The body is medium. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

For the price, I was super disappointed. Guigal is a quality producer and while this was their lower end wine, it was definitely not worth the $45. Decanted for about 3 hrs. Needed it too. Violets, coffee grinds and dark fruit on the nose. Was just meh on the palate. looking forward to other guigal wines but not this one.

Guigal's 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a deep ruby (approximate) blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% other allowed varietals. Within one hour in decanter, it reveals an attractive bouquet of red bramble fruits, dark plums, Provençal herbs, Asian spices and hazelnuts. Medium-bodied, fresh, softly oaked and with medium sweet tannins, it delivers flavors mirroring the nose and throws no heat from its 15% alcohol. Solid in the middle and medium in length on the back end, this is an "easy drinker," yet it has enough stuffing to last throughout the decade. Drink now-2030.

2020 Guigal single vineyard cote rotie release dinner (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): ON the nose it's slightly reductive initially, gamey and savoury, quite funky in fact but opens with time in the glass to show red berries, sweet spice and garrigue. In the mouth it's fleshy, red fruited, silky tannins, there is a very slight sourness here as well as some alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.
Not a guigal hater. Quite the opposite. Which is why this was so disappointing. 2016 and this is all you got? Jammy overripe sweet. Even hot. Nothing says cdp. No pepper no herbs no real fruit! Overall a boring wine worth about 20 bucks to serve at a party.
