The 4th time that I've taken the trouble to write a note on this wine, with my last one being about 18 months ago. At least for my palate, this wine has never felt truly cohesive. Nice enough on the nose, but the fruit is still a little too tart and edgy on the palate. With the exception of his GG's, as times goes on I am coming to the conclusion that when it comes to Schafer-Frohlich, I tend to like the Pradikat wines better than the Trockens.

Zeer mineraal, duidelijke petroleum aroma's, mooi droog met krokante zuren. Een knappe Riesling, recht voor de raap, wars van complexiteit, maar net daardoor zo smaakvol!

Drinking better than the 2019 I just tried, but still not nearly as compelling as the 2015 Felseneck Kabinett. Could just be a vintage thing, although I do find the additional weight/"flesh" in the Kabinett appealing. Still, this isn't bad.

This was one of the line-up (and my second favorite) from my tasting group's monthly meeting and I enjoyed it so much that I didn't hesitate to accept when someone suggested that I take the rest of the bottle home. The smoky minerality of both the nose and palate is unmistakable and just so damn good when off-set by the vibrant juiciness of the wine.
APPEARANCE: Color & intensity: pale lemon
NOSE: Intensity: medium (+) Aromas: grapefruit, flint, lime, smoke, yellow apple, white flowers, hint of cut grass Development: developing
PALATE: Sweetness: dry Acidity: medium (+) Alcohol: medium Body: medium Intensity: medium (+) Flavors: lime, grapefruit, flint, smoke, lemon and lime zest, crushed stone, hint of salt Finish: medium (+)
CONCLUSIONS: Quality level: very good Potential for ageing: can drink now but has good potential for further ageing

I'm often left underwhelmed by dry German Rieslings, but this is very good. And it's not even a GG. Has some flesh but bright acidity and fine structure.

I think this really delivers had it in Zalto Universal and also white , there are plenty of notes both on the nose and palate. Smooth , chalky , lemon , licorise , some tartness its really good for the money.

From 75cl in a restaurant, cork not seen. Piercing stony-smoky minerality—crushed rock dust—on the nose; still some puppy fat sweetness on the light-bodied entry, but this will surely be rock-hard buff in a couple of years time. The mid-palate developed delicious hints of licquorice, fennel seed and star anis as it accompanied octopus and saibling at Stadtpfeiffer Leipzig. I wouldn't have chosen to drink this so young, but it was basically fine already. Better in 2023. 90-91P

According to CT, I last tried this about 11 months ago - from my note, I was on the fence then and off this glass, I'm probably still there. Nothing objectively wrong here, but also nothing that makes you sit up and take notice either. A nice nose with slate, tart apple and minerality, but the wine doesn't really deliver on the palate. I think I have one bottle remaining and I may just decide to lose that for a while to see if something more interesting develops with additional age.

First time trying the '18 vintage. Crisp & bracing on the palate, with no discernible sweetness. Neutral at this point on the nose. I like this, but can't say that it wows me.

Rich and forward on the aromas with clear stone fruit, cool melon, ripe lemon and flowers. Good body and fatter wine than the last vintages. Great juicy citrus, melon and clear stone minerality that charmes. Enough freshness. A bit atypical, but still really nice in this warmer vintage. Have the wine to Sushi, light Asian food or actually light fatter fish dishes. 90 points.

Maybe you can imagine my thougths, a sunny winterday outside, working hard with your big Stihl chainsaw, cutting and cut to length trees, starting to sweat terribly in your cut-resistant trousers, what kind of white would you prefer to refresh after work? Right, this bottle is perfect, smoky , young, a punching but integrated acid, mouthwatering, full of flintstone Riesling tension, really light and full of finesse of the vulcanic floor, a great "entry level" GG showing, this is from younger grapes of the Felsenberg and Stromberg GG vineyards, highly recommended, long life ahead, **(*-****), 91(+) potential

VDP.VINISSAGE and AUFTAKT TOUR VDP.GROSSE LAGE; 9/1/2019-9/2/2019 (Capital representative office of german telecom, Berlin): One glass, brief note: this is the bottling for the real smoky Riesling lovers who do not want to buy a GG, a liquid lighter, stunning showing the pure soil in your glass, best example from vulcanic soil if not compared with their or Dönnhoffs Felseneck GG! Young, will improve over the next decade, *(**-****)
