Longueur moyenne. Excellent rapport Q/P.

Ran through a vinturi, the interesting nose on this runs through plums, flowers, a smidgen of earth mixed in. The palate is very smooth with mellow tannins and soft acidity and is dominated by plums and strong bing cherries. Not much of a sipper, definitely a food wine.
2nd Day - Did not finish the bottle and had a glass the next night after refrigeration, found the tannins were entirely gone and an intriguing note of fig had appeared, increased the score to 88 from an 87, very tasty twenty four hour wine.

I always try to expand my palate by trying new varietals and wine regions. This Sardinian red wine is produced from indigenous grapes, Monica (90%), Carignano (5%) and 5% Bovale Sardo (5%) grapes grown in the Argiolas’ Perdera vineyard. It is garnet color with a nose of Cherry Kijafa, stewed prunes, and earth. The wine is light to medium bodied and fruity. It tastes of dark berries, tart cherries, plums, and raspberries. This blend seems thin in mid-palate and slightly bitter at the end, with a short finish.

Interesting, medium bodied wine, aromatic of flower pedals, fresh plum, wet stone. Firm acidity. It reminded me instantly of many a Spanish Tempranillo made in this style. I read that Monica grape comes from Spain, so possible obvious connection. OK, interesting, fresh acidity for food more, good for the price.

This is a good simple wine with plum like flavors. It has very little nose, but opened up after decanting for an hour. Storage under argon preserved the wine well and allowed it to open up further. This is a palatable example of a wine made from a regional Monica grape.

Pours dark purple. Aroma is of musty tobacco, earth and stewed fruit, and just as you bring the glass to your face and a split second before the liquid enters your mouth, you get a strong whiff of green bell peppers. The greenness continues in the palate, along with the tobacco/earth notes, into a somewhat flabby and low tannin finish. Blind, I would have said a rather tired example of Chinon. Fortunately, air and warmth greatly improves the wine, giving up more dark cherry and bitter chocolate notes that are quite pleasant. Overall, not bad at all, and priced right at $12, but I much prefer the Cannonau (grenache) by the same producer. This made it intact and improved into its third day. It was a pretty good pairing with squash stuffed with ground beef and rice.

Ok, this wine is interesting and fun like many wines from Sardinia prove to be. They keep me coming back. First, the nose is earthy/gamey/smokey and very intriguing. This follows through to palate that is hard to place exactly with so much going on, but oh so very unique. Here goes - complex flavors of plum, tar, spice, and smoke all kept very lively and fresh with excellent acidity that brings out layered dark cherry notes on the finish. Smooth and balanced. An extreme geek wine value at $10.

Thin, weak, very few redeeming qualities. A decent ten dollar pizza wine, but if you're into wine, you'll find better choices, even at this price point.

Pretty seductive nose, followed by a medium bodied wine that is quite difficult to describe. One moment you think red fruit, the next you think black tea, then some vegetable notes, all in rapid succession. One moment you think elegant, the next you think funky. A little disjointed perhaps, but entertaining. Medium length and no great finale. Interesting wine/grape to try for a change. Update day 2: much more focussed now, concentrated black fruits, solid on the palette, some oak and tannins, but nice package. All in all, much more complete wine with 24hours of air. Suggest decating and/or aging. Upgraded from 85 to 87 Update day 3: still good, but lost some of its charm. Suggest to cellar, but not keep too long: 2013/2014.

Predominantly Monica, this reminded me a bit of Gamay. Had that same floral, purple fruit kind of thing going on, mixed with a touch of Sardinian dirt. Good acidity, not too tannic. Nice pizza wine, but it was a little bit simple for me. 85-87pts

Bill's Summer Garden Offline (Vancouver, BC): Dark fruit nose that reminded me of granche with spicy and peppery notes as well. Soft in the mouth but has some verve from its excellent acidity. Pretty decent wine and a first for me with this variety. Good.

Almost eclipsing the Costera is the 2009 Perdera. Monica can be made into serious wine and the proof is here. Sweetly perfumed nose of dark cherry, black tea, tar and a welcome medicinal/mint note. The pronounced acidity is a complement to this already outstanding effort. Structured, balanced and demanding some age....for ten dollars? Hell yes.

Paired beautifully with broiled salmon and risotto. Nice acidic edge balanced nicely by enough fruit to round it out. Not spectacular but a good, solid bottle.

The nose showed aromas of cherries and freshly turned soil. On the palate, it was a zesty and spicy red with sweet berries, leading to a long finish. Although this may not be for everyone, a lover of Italian wine, and especially of Sardinia, would appreciate this unique wine.

90% Monica, a local grape from the south part of Sardina (but you already knew that) and then 5% Carigano and 5% Barolonardo (sp?, what is this?). Apperently that grape is related to Mourvedre. Here its a blender to try and give more complexity and balance to the wine.
Well, the wine is definately unique. Smoked evergreen on the nose, pungent spice and herbs. Pronouced aromatics. Palate takes some adjustment -- this anit cabernet baby! -- with flavors following the palate. Interesting, pretty crazy, not sure what to make of it. I guess it would be fun for around $15. Something to think about.
