A touch of reduction and spritz. Maybe slightly gentle and flat but actually there's some nice balance. Relatively low acidity (I said relatively) but not flabby. Some notes of green mango, peach, slate, it's pithy and bitter on the finish.

Showed better than last time and a pretty nose of cantaloupe, pineapple, mango, warm spices and a pebble mineral note, similar palate with juicy fruits, integrated bright acidity, and a medium plus finish

2018 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett (AP: 05 20) was elegant, focused and perfumed. The youthful Mosel Riesling was clear and pale lemon in colour. Beautiful aromas of tangerine, lemon candy and honeysuckle jumped out of the glass, accompanied by a whiff of smoke and ginger spices.
The delicate, off-dry and light-bodied mouthfeel was marked by a high level of precise acidity. Pleasant flavours of red apples, pears, honey, white flowers and candied lemon zest persisted in a long, mineral-laced finish. The alcohol level was at 9.5%. The empty bottle weighed 428 grams.
The vineyard of Wehlener Sonnenuhr (sundial) is famed for its deep Devonian bluish grey slate, steep slope and south-west exposition. It is, perhaps, an infanticide to crack the bottle, as the wine of Joh. Jos. Prüm is known for its consistency and longevity.

Straw color, somewhat closed nose with typical Riesling petrol notes and some ripe fruit but not much else. Delicious palate with layers of complexity, minerality, ripe yellow fruit, apricot, medium plus acidity. Very young and primary, can't wait to see how this develops.

Well-stuffed; less agile and less fragrant than the GH. This has plenty of body and potential but a bit too much like fruit syrup at mo. Needs another 3+ years to show a bit more lift. Great potential though.

A rare miss from Prum. There is something about the balance here that is just not quite right. It feels somewhat stunted and hollow. Alcohol perhaps a little too high as well for the slender body. Hmm.

I thought this would be far too soon to open and it was. Lacking minerality and verve right now, but the structure and components are there. On Day 3, it was starting too take shape but still too early. Hold five years minimum.

It had all the notes of a classic Mosel Riesling, but no charm or nuance Green apples, smoke, lime, white flowers High acidity but not in a piercing way, reflecting, perhaps, the vintage Lacking in concentration Not a great showing from a producer I otherwise love

Starting to show a little development. Ripe nose of honeyed yellow apples, lemon drop, saffron, and undertones of wet slate. Similar profile of primarily orchard fruit on the palate. Despite it's broad appearance on the palate, it has vibrant and refreshing acidity giving it ample structure. I like this a little less than other recent vintages, but it's still good juice.

Hard to open this wine knowing that it will age and develop for a long time, however it was even harder not to open it now knowing how good it is fresh.
Beautiful magnum bottle, quite the center piece on the table. Very crisp and refreshing with the slightest touch of petrol on the nose, great acidity, and light sweetness on the palate. Great balance and complexity from a fantastic producer.

The nose is like being in a garden in Sevilla, Spain... ripe citrus and lemon with tons of flowers and a touch of spice. Almost effervescent on the front of the tongue. Acid is hiding a bit behind all the lush flavors. Easy and long finish with a hint of honey. Very satisfying on its own. Will adjust if needed with time open and with the grilled scallops and bok choy on the menu.

Quite full for the style, with ripe green apple, some cooked lemon, and a decent amount of weight on the palate, just about controlled phenolics. Still quintessential JJ Prum Kab, but slightly richer.

Over two nights and, not surprisingly, better on the second. Pear, apple, honey and petrol. Very young, but it’s already delicious and easy to drink. Really popped when we paired with Chinese food.

AP 19 04. This one was a “meh” for me. Obviously ripe but it felt as though Prum compensated by fermenting it to higher levels of alcohol than usual (9.5%, bordering on Feinherb territory) and a bit more reductive than recent Prum Kabinetts (especially 2015 and 2017).
I suppose Prum was in the hard place a lot of German vintners have found themselves in during the changing climate—how to fill the critical lower Pradikat market with successively riper grapes. But I don’t think forcing wines to be what they naturally aren’t isn’t the solution. Prum delt with this brilliantly in 2013 when they marketed nothing beyond Auslese and higher, and each ended up being astounding wines. But I suppose it was a likely financial disaster as well.
But I’ve said my bit already. If you love riper, Feinherb-style Riesling, this will be right up your alley. But I far prefer their Spätlese and Auslesen in 2018 where the higher ripeness doesn’t need to hide.

This is a bit like making stew. The acidity bubbles underneath the fat of this wine. Trying to break through but can’t yet. The aroma is heady zinnias. You can taste the beginnings of fruits but they too are pressed up against the glass trying to get your attention. It gets a bit better after 30 minutes there’s a bit more clarity. This needs time to integrate.
Classic, feather light, apricot and tropical fruit. There's a bit of flesh on this that maybe could do with a little more acidity to balance out but I'm nit-picking - quality juice.

Lovely nose of honey pear and lemon, Very fizzy (could see bubbles running up the side of the bottle after opening) charming palate. More honey, grapefruit, lime, a hint of peach on the very dry entry, a little sweetness showing up in mid palate. I’m seeing a nice acidic splash to balance the off dry palate and good length: Barely sweet this is drier and more lithe than many Kabinetts, extremely quaffable now but will improve as it gets past this early stage.

Due to what I assume is the vintage, this is quite tropical with almost no petrol-y character; mango/passionfruit seems to dominate the nose with an almost California sauvignon blanc-lite bent. The palate definitely has a little tickle of CO2 which wasn't unwelcome and kept it breezy. The acidity is present but not piercing, and the mouthfeel is somewhat broad. Mostly, I don't find it to be particularly expressive - granted, it's extremely young - and I can't say I loved this particular iteration of this bottling. Overall, this isn't really my style and I look forward to 2019's more classic profile.

Compared to the Graacher Himmelreich this was much creamier. It was like a slate shake with Mirabelle plum. Airy and light on its feet but still seems to lack a bit of thrust which I imagine is the vintage. I wonder if this is one of those Prum's where in a few years you'll get more of the underlying acidity.

JJ Prum - 2018 range tasting: Quince and pear with lime, apricot and floral spice on the nose. The power of the fruit on the palate is a step up here and is the most intense of the flight, with the ripeness lending a delicious juicy element while maintaining its definition and structure. Really early appeal here, lovely pure fruit and flavour with good length as well.

Krotida Wine Gang Tasting, Weingut JJ Prum Horizontal tasting 2018 (Oinoscent): 9.5 The wine is bolder in the nose than the Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett, ripe citrus, lemon with a few earthy notes. In the palate, the wine shows strength and much higher complexity than the Gr. Himmel, the acidity is more powerful and the wine overall more balanced. Flavor wise the wine is all about citrus, lemon and lime, the wine shows medium body and finish. Outstanding

Knew it was on the young side but this really didn't work for me yet. Second night was a bit better, like a fresh spring water with a touch of melon and apple through it. First night just wasn't that pleasant, hard to find the Riesling tastes. Bits of dried stone fruits and something slightly off putting. Bit of spritz on opening. But it's got good acidity and very clean on second day so am sure this will come round. For me, confirmed, don't drink these ones young.

peachy white yellow with tiny bubbles forming. nose offers unexpected flowery elements instead of the usual tropical fruits. violets and lavender, and only then mango and passion fruit. mouth is also quite flowery, with lavender dominating at this very early stage, followed by cantaloupe melon and peach. also bits of menthol and rosemary. less sweetness and acidity than expected. tastes similar to a sweet sauvignon blanc, so quite off the mark and unlike prum. perhaps too early and needs time to settle down?
