Such a treat. Deep gold color. Ripe yellow apple, peach and banana on the nose, with a slight nutty character. Full body, perfectly in balance with the acidity. The finish keeps going. A fully mature bottle in excellent condition. Wow!

Not a fan at all of Vogue's under-performing, rustic red Musigny. This white from the, for whites heralded 1992 vintage, showed awesomely right from the first sniff. Beautiful mature but not oxidative nose of lemon rind, pop corn, some autumn leaves and some nutty notes. Great acidity and fruit still on the palate, perfect balance, long finish. Shows once more that well made, pre-premox days Burg can age well, 30 years. A Wow white!

Precious magnum, the last vintage is 1993 because half of the vines were replanted in 1986, and the remainder in 1997 so no musigny blanc but Bourgogne blanc after that. This is a fruit bomb, pears coconut bee wax marzipan. Very creamy full of layers and long aftertaste! Lack a bit of acidity! Drinking very well in magnum format!

Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Acadia, Chicago, IL): (Library Release from early 2012) Popped, poured and drank over roughly 3 hours. Very much like the bottles consumed last year. Amazingly Chave Hermitage Blanc-ish. Waxy, with a very round texture on the palate. Slightly nutty notes. Marzipan. Ripe and lush yellow fruits. Like previous bottles, it showed best after being open/in the glass for 30 min and held well throughout dinner. A really fun and unique white Burgundy. I plan on holding my last one for quite some time to see how it continues to evolve.

Look out below. First trip to the moon with Branson. Very close to drinking white red wine? Yes, as the wine sits in the MAGNUM and warms to room temp, the backbone is chewy and is every bit red fruit. I can't explain it, just try to find some, and spend a day sipping on your own! Thanks to the wine gods for this one, spectacular.

Comte de Vogue Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades, Chicago IL): Domaine Library Release. Opened 2 or 3 hours before serving. Slight golden color. Much riper on the nose and palate than the bottle had a few days ago. Waxy, ripe stone fruit with some baked yellow citrus notes. Medium weight and intensity. Lacking some of the acidity of the bottle from a few days ago. Still nice though.
Another bottle was open from a tasting earlier in the day (roughly 8 hours or so). Showing some of the same characteristics, but much riper and lush and lacking structure. Based on tonights bottles and the bottle had just the other day, I would probably open about a half hour before serving, but not much more.

Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Dinner with Jean-Luc Pepin (Les Nomades - Chicago IL): I tasted this from two bottles tonight, both Domaine library release bottles. First was open 2-3 hours before serving. Second was open 8 hours and mostly consumed then, with perhaps 1/4 of the wine left. Wine from the first bottle was ripe and lush on the nose. Stone fruit flavors with a rich, unctuous mouth feel, just modest acidity, then a slightly sweet finish that had moderate length. Second bottle (open much longer) was quite similar but softer, shorter and less precise. Two of the people at our table had opened another bottle 3 days prior (from the same Vogüé library release case as tonight's two bottles) and thought it best after open one hour, then slowly became less interesting, which was directionally consistent with our two-bottle tasting experiment tonight.

Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): Oh my goodness. One of the better and most astounding tastings of a white in some time. Library release directly from the winery! Awesome funky, sulfur, earth, brioche, lemon peel. Super shroomy too! Waxy, cotton and linen. Fresh and lively. No premox at all. Barely any age showing too! Incredible! Gingerbread baked goods. Some fresh ginger too. Great great showing of this fantastic wine.

Domaine Library Release. Popped and poured. Showed great right from the start, but was best after being in the glass for about 30 minutes. Ripe yellow orchard fruits with a slight honeyed/waxy note. Orange blossoms. Crushed stones. Somewhat "Northern Rhone-ish". Nice richness to the palate with good mineral structure. Cleansing acidity. Medium finish. Fun to try.

Brilliant yellow/orange tones. Exotic, floral and honeyed citrus notes on the nose. Nice body to the palate. Weighty and near maturity. Nice length. Not quite the tension of top CdB whites. Really good.

G7 (Alex): Dark golden yellow in color. Vanilla oak nose. Tastes of unripe apples, pears, passion fruit with a touch of cat pee. Nice depth and length. Smooth finish with a slight tartness.

richly nuanced, and oh so very flavorful with full bodied fruit that seemed mature to me. i'm generally unfamiliar with the vintage, but this has to be a spectacular example. a delicious treat.

Wow wine, ex-cellar. Reduction, then caramel, then floral elements emerge aromatically. Palate is balanced, beautiful and fresh.

Sweet yellow fruit with notes of ripe apple and pineapple. Thin on the palate other than that. Still too much oak for me.
