Aouch...

Tasted this at Binny's a year or so ago and enjoyed it enough to pick up a bottle. Might have lost a touch of its fruit since then, but this is still voluptuous, rich, layered and perfumed. Blueberries, chocolate, touches of tar and dark baking spices - clove, cinnamon, cardamom. Palate is nice. Shows classic Old World Syrah accents - spice, smokey meat and touches of stewed vegetation.

80% syrah, 20%grenache. 15% AV. Seems really youthful and primary. Nose of sweet raspberries, a hint of creamy oak, and some fresh earth. Full and rich on the palate, compote of ripe berries, some creamy oak here too, a little spice, pretty good balance overall. Long finish with just a smidgen of oaky bitterness. Tannins are there but shielded by the fruit. At this stage, I get more grenache characteristics than syrah. This wine needs some time. Still a great value! 89+

Fairly new world Rhone. Beautiful up front red and black fruit with smooth mouthfeel. Unfortunately, the finish dropped off rapidly and with fairly strong heat. Very nice but could've been much better.

nose: really good dark and meaty nose with tones of roasted meats, black fruits, dark red fruits, bits of pepper and dark red cherries. Real nice depth and also combines well the brighter fruit tones along with a more southern rhone profile that I want
taste: good polished medium feel with really good tones of roasted meats, black fruits, dark red cherries and hints of pepper. Nice tannins that aren't intrusive with good depth
overall: more along the lines of what I want. Understandably more depth then the terrasses bottling, but this comes across more as a southern rhone wine then a wine of non-descript red fruits

Medium ruby, clear throughout. Young nose of dark red fruits, baking spice and some floral notes also. Flavours of dark fruits, tobacco and some lingering oak. High acidity, medium tannins, and medium body with a medium length finish that is a tad boozy. Needs a few more years. Good. 87+

The nose was raspberry syrup with healthy dose of black pepper and other herbs. Silky smootth but big bodied and mouth coating. Spicy with pure raspberry juice and little grip at the end.

Loved this wine, wonderful meaty nose, herbs and licorice. Coated the mouth nicely, good finish, acidity, decent tannins, herbs and cherry came thru on the finish. Will buy again.

A little heat on the nose, with good dark fruit extract and some oak. In the mouth, this has tannin and plenty of fruit, along with a little spice. Over time, becomes more expansive, opening to sweet blackberry and cassis.

A dear friend came to town and we had this with a Chateaubriand (roasted on the grill), mushrooms, and grilled vegetables. The smoky and meaty elements worked with the beef, and the concentrated black fruit (sweet blackberries?) added something of its own. We pulled it out of the cellar shortly before opening, so it was fairly cool (65 degrees or so) and, dare I say, even a little refreshing. I looked at the bottle and saw '15% alcohol' -- I would not have guessed that! This would probably be a nose-burner when it gets warmed up. We don't drink much Syrah, because neither my wife nor I care for the usual style in our price range (e.g. cheaper than Hermitage), but the occasion suggested it, and we were not disappointed by the juice -- a substantial, inky wine with dense aromas, fruity but complex.

Perhaps better than the (excellent) 03. This wine was wide open and immediately delicious. Excellent meat and earth aromas reminiscent of much more expensive N. Rhone syrahs.

Powerful nose with loads of dark berries and english licorice but also a not altogether pleasant alcoholic presence. Top notch concentration in the mouth. Lots of fruit and soft tannins. This, indeed, is still a very young wine. Tasted blind, I would have guessed Australian Shiraz. Unfortunately the alcohol is also noticeable on the palate leaving a burning sensation on the gums. The use of new oak is evident without being overdone per se. Long aftertaste with a hint of violets. All in all, quality wine and powerful stuff that is just a little bit too much for me and too alcoholic in its profile for my palate. On day 2 the wine settles down somewhat and the alcohol is less obvious.

Excellent wednesday bottle. Opened 2 hours.
Dark, deep purple.
Primary nose of blackberry and blueberry followed by a bit of barnyard funk wet dirt and mushroom. Definitely showing age but pleasant.
Mouth is juicy, not particularly complex. Dark fruits dominate again, followed by slightly tart feel... I would not even call that tannic.
Overall, very enjoyable but i think that this has just past its peak.
One more bottle to go. Will be drinking it this summer.
