Racy, vibrant and thoroughly enjoyable. I suppose some people might require food with this but I personally found it to be quite fabulous all by its lonesome thanks to its mouth-watering acidity and lip-smacking mineral-fruit balance that keeps you going back for more.

89/90. Has lovely unfruity aromas of slatey apples, honey, herbs, stonefruits+lemons+limes. Its unfruity chiselled dry light to medium bodied austere slatey/salty a bit foursquare freshly fruited stonefruits palate ends mediumish, fresh and tapering. 12%. Lay down 5-10 years. Decent value at 14 Euros. A bit unknit at the moment. Improves in the glass. A quintessential vin de terroir!

A bottle from Dönnhoffs best dry entry level bottling, unscrewed and enjoyed, light 12% ABV, very fresh and lime driven, good energetic grip, a very good bottle with a really decent length, recommended, **(-***)

89/90. This has typical aromas of slate infused stonefruits, veggie hints, lemons+limes. Its solid freshly fruited medium bodied unfruity, salty chewy slate infused stonefruits palate has excellent depth but ends only mediumish and fresh. 12%.

Pear, orange, fresh herbs (some cooling mint stands out), some salty mineral, and for some reason fresh baked bread. Reductive style, M body, M+ acid.
Great pairing with brats sautéed with onions and green peppers and mustard and caraway + Jasper Hill Harbison cheese baked with garlic and a splash of the wine and served with raspberry mostarda.
This occupies a slightly awkward space between entry level estate bottlings and the more serious single vineyard wines but it’s really tasty in a style I like, and modest enough price for a weeknight meal (and that I don’t feel bad using a few ounces to cook with). The qpr is maybe only average to slightly above for Riesling but it’s outstanding compared to pretty much anything else. ~7/10

After quite a lot of attempts I think this is the first riesling that I've unequivocally enjoyed drinking. I think that's essentially because the sweet aspect often present is absent here and therefore doesn't clash jarringly with the acidity.
This wine has a very nice flinty, floral nose; the palate adds white stone fruit and a nice acidity which complements (rather than competes as in some many rieslings) with those flavours; the finish is very clean and refreshing.
But, having said that, at the ~US$29 that this costs here there are plenty of other better wines. At the €14 that others have been able to buy I would be picking up more.
Or pale. Pomme Granny Smith, pétrole, minéral, fleurs blanches, miel? Corps moyen, beau fruit et belle acidité rafraichissante, longueur moy+. Très plaisant à boire, à racheter! ----- Pale gold. Granny Smith apple, petrol, mineral, some floral, honey? Medium body, nice fruit and refreshing acidity. Med+ length. Drinks nicely, buy again!

Tres beau riesling. Fruits jaune, acidite mordante, petrole, pas mal textbook riesling. Seul raison que ca ne score pas plus, c’est la longueur moyenne. Mais tres belle buvabilite.

This is better than the unready Riesling 2019 trocken. However it lacks fireworks at the start and then improves. I know I rated the 2017 a 92. Has typical unfruity Tonschiefer aromas of stone fruits, slate, minerals, lemons and limes and veggie hints. Its medium bodied chewy salty slate infused unfruity yet tangy palate has got excellent density and very good length. 12%. Needs 90mins+ aeration or lay down 1-2 years. Develops with every sip. Excellent value at 14 Euros.

Pale straw color. Nose of lemon/lime with a bit of wet rock and some tart apple. Similar flavors on the palate. High acidity with a dry finish. Not overly complex but very nice Riesling trocken for the price.

Pear peach, no petrol. Slight sweetness. And a lot of sourness of apple, or tart apple on the backend. Think granny smith. Acidity medium but not high or bitting.

Pale yellow colour, slight spritz on opening. Nose is restrained, citrus fruited, somehow smells acidic! On palate this is high acid, lemon peel, tart green apple and gooseberry, quite a long finish but a little stern today. On day 2 this has gained in its super-dry, mineral, no-messing nature. Chalky, citrus, and some green herbal bitterness on the dry, dry finish. Serious and stoically austere!

First full bottle of this entry+ level dry Riesling of the topical vintage, unscrewed there is a good salty taste on the palate, some zest and citrus, but somehow somewhat is missing for me, and hey we are talking about a Riesling from Dönnhoff......., had better entry level bottles of this vintage from the Nahe zone before (S-F, Schneider, both), this one for me is too balanced that young, a Riesling crowd pleaser more or less, and like all well known producers, therefore too pricey, *-**, around 85-87(+?) Day 2: more balanced, the fruit more stony, a whiff of fruit sweetness on the palate in the background, more attractive now, but there are better entry levels still.

Dönnhoff Winery visit: A wine from volcanic soil. In the bouquet white fruits and minerals. On the palate intense green apples, ripe fruits, powerful, firm and focused acidity. Not bone dry. Beautiful wine. 89+?

citrus, stone fruits, unripe mango, slight wet rocks, a very slight soapy character which detracts. Not that exciting for the price (USD 26).
