  • Nose floral aromatics, saltwater. Stone fruit. Crab apple. Marigold. Palate well balanced. Acid, but rounded with age. Salty especially toward to finish. Floral here too. Really well made and intriguing.

  • Don't drink much vinho verde. This seems to be part of a Niepoort project that has various Docil line extensions. It's labeled Loureiro which appears to be the grape variety. That's about all I know going in.

Color a light straw with green highlights. No noticeable signs of fizz. Nose is stony and saline, maybe a little white orchard fruit and some floral overtones. Very pleasant on the palate with saline minerality, under-ripe pear in the middle, and somewhat riper yellow fruit toward the brisk, green-tasting finish. It's not exactly bitter, but not far off either.

Strikes me as a bracing aperitif at 11.5% ABV, probably best with simple uncomplicated food. It actually didn't do all that well with plain sautéed swordfish, which surprised me, as I would have guessed them to be highly compatible. Probably better when they're both fresh and on their native soil.

A very fresh, if somewhat closed, vinho verde

  • Color is light lemon yellow. Nose is like a nice Riesling with white peach, lots of minerals and slight petrol. Surprised me…as last Loureiro at a similar price point I had was much less intense and expressive and more citrus driven. Nice texture, slightly oily. Juicy, crisp with very bright acidity. Palate has a little citrus in addition. Very long. Delicious! This could be the buy of the century for what I paid for it…on sale around $10!!!

P.s. this is a wine to enjoy right away from the first pour when those Riesling-esque qualities show. For me this did tire rather quickly and gained a little bitterness on the palate after 20-30 minutes. Score adjusted 91–>90

  • Brought to drink at Oinoscent during service.
25yo Loureiro vines, granit soil, 1400 vines/ha, 11.50%, 150m altitude, handpicked, 5 months in steel tanks, 30.000 bottles production.

The wine is youthful and very fresh in the nose, slowing medium to high intensity, herbal notes, lemon leaves, lemon peel, lime, underripe pear and green apple, laurel and parsley.
In the palate, the wine shows acidity and a brine element, medium body, herbal and citrus notes with medium to long finish.
Interesting wine, would like to see this age

  • Pale lemon with glints of green – honeydew melon, lime, pear, green apple; palate adds black iced tea with lemon. Medium+ acid, 11.5% ABV, light body, medium intensity, medium- finish. Paired nicely with Baked Chicken Nuggets and Smashed Potatoes.

Made with the local Loureiro (which translates as "laurel" or "bay") grape.
